The history of compressed natural gas

I assume Natural Gas comes from Crude Oil. The problem with that is they still pollute and require energy to make unless we can make them from other natural resources without having to drill. I have seen motors that can run on a lesser amount of electricity while producing more. Electric Car with on-board generator may be the way to go instead.
