The whole idea about manliness pisses me off. It contributes to a lot of social problems. Boys are taught from a very young age not to cry.As a result when they grow up to be men and happen feeling depressed or innadequtein some way they will result to getting drunk and betting the shit of their wife. Machismo is such a double edged sword. Women want to feel a sense of protection and tell man to be "manly" but then end up being mistreated.
@jebus0000000 I don't think that being cruel to one's spouse, out of a sense of personal inferiority has anything to do with manliness. A man with a strong sense of morals, an ability to keep a calm mind when troubles arise, and the will and strength to handle them with dignity and honor is in my book the better and the manlier of the two.
Great stuff. It is great that you started this site for those who may not have a man in their lives. Those who may have been raised without a father or by a disinterested step-father whatever the case. These seemingly small tips can prove to be imperative as a young boy grows into manhood. It is very laudible that you have chosen to put these instructional videos on here, and the magazines, and whatever else you offer.
I really enjoy your website and interpret a lot of the lessons I find to be lessons on being a good, successful human being. Obviously, it's geared towards men and discuss manly skills, but I'm wondering if you have ever thought of making or know of any female versions of your website.
I cannot tell you how much I agree with your introductory story. I gave up reading men's magazines AGES ago. They get SO repeditive. Every SINGLE EDITION of "Men's Health" is Sex and Exercise. Sex and Exercise. Sex and Exercise. Sex and Exercise.
Nice. Can we talk about something else? Because NO magazine that I've found catering for men TALKS about anything else...I started reading the AoM blog & forum.
Yes, I think that most men are tired of having 6 pack abs, scoring 8 chicks in a weekend and $50,000 safaris. (Chicks are baby chickens right? They are tasty, and crunchy.) The AoM is truly a great site that every man, or aspiring man should read.
I have to say something, but I know I should just keep my mouth shut. Wow, the site how to be a man is scary! Total conformity to mindless thinking or thinking in the enslaved box of tradition and stuffiness. I can believe you have so many followers, it is shocking! Where are the individual thinkers? Instead I see mindless followers. Your tips on dating are beyond funny, because after their bored to death of your routine, she will run to my house and bang me without a rubber. Good luck wake up!
@masterplan8 You are so unique and enlightened, totally not a follower! Remember the paradox my inexperienced padowan - Those who seek the path of non-conformity end up being conformists with other non-conformists. If you're a guy, you have two options, either 1) get educated on what it means to be a man, or 2) conform to the image of the pussy whipped effeminate boy prancing in modernity claiming to be unique or non-conformist while wearing those tight Peter Pan jeans.
@AnonymouseWarrior Your on this sight because you don't have a clue about life or women, but let me tell you...this guy your following doesn't either. You're funny because whipped and pussy don't even exist in my vocabulary, they may in yours and that's cool, especially after the tips this guy is giving out on dating, he obviously doesn't have much experience. You're swallowing the Blue pill still(see the matrix) one day you will pick up a red pill, and wake up to find it's all an illusion...
@masterplan8 Nice job of evading the contradictions I pointed out which you abide by. Youare all too willing to point out the flaws in others instead of attending to your own shortcomings - that is how deception occurs. Perhaps if you are as enlightened as you claim, you can make your own website and creative expression, with your own ideas to share. But since you are wrapped in the tortilla of envy you can only feed off of others' contributions as your only utility is that of a mosquito.
@AnonymouseWarrior Let me think....We are in the comment section correct? Check that! You are so enamored with your words aren't you? Your a special writer, or dare I say enlightened one, haha! Because that is what you think of yourself isn't it? Did I say I was enlightened at any point? No...The real contradiction is you even judging my comment. Deception occurs may ways like this site and your comments back to me:), Enlightened to Deceiver, I guess you have come full circle grasshopper!
@masterplan8 You shouldn't evade what I pointed out. You complain about 'conformity' yet conform with the non-conformists thinking you are better, and enlightened. Trapped in paradox. You don't have to claim enlightenment to imply it. Only you must see the light and everyone else is mired in the fields of misanthropy. Only pretentious people use Matrix analogies such as red/blue pills to feel good and fixate on catchphrases like 'illusion'. Rule 1 - Learn to man up and let go of your ego pride.
@AnonymouseWarrior Hey Mr. Warrior...you manly man lol! You sure are letting your ego get the best of you here by continuing to fight. I guess your one of those Comment Warriors haha, hence the screen name, lol!! Be a man and walk away, keyboard warrior, let your ego take a break and let it go. I'm not evading anything, I'm not enlightened, I'm not better than anyone, and I don't know anything. How does your ego feel now Mr. Manly Keyboard Warrior? Rule 1 listen to your own rule haha! Let it go!
@masterplan8 "I'm not evading anything, I'm not enlightened, I'm not better than anyone, and I don't know anything." That's all I wanted you to say. And remember, anyone who uses the phrase "keyboard warrior" loses because that is an implied admission of takings the net to personally. :)
@AnonymouseWarrior KeyBoard Warrior your big on making things up in your head about what you read. See "Implied" as your favorite overused word. You can make up any story you want about anything you read can't you KBW? As long as it serves your mission soldier! I want to see you solute me boy! Did your fictional EGO get a Win? Do you think your right? Your so deep in your personal fiction, you can't see beyond the forest. Wake up Grasshopper!! LOL!!
Men don't need to learn how to be better men. That is feminist claptrap. Men need to learn to define themselves with being shamed into compliance with the expectations of women or other men, and they need to learn how to protect themselves, instead of being led to the slaughter. Graveyards are full of men as you define them.
Oops sorry. Just for you, I will qualify what I was saying. Parse out the ones dead from bullet holes; both from illicit wars and their own hands. There's your Art of Manliness.
@TheHappyMisogynist Wow, I feel special! It sure is paradoxical- that someone so vehemently opposed to feminazis would also be opposed to some fun play off of masculinity. I don't know if you actually watched the video, but the whole point is that the articles pertaining to shaving with a straight razor, jumping out of a car, etc, are just meant to be entertaining and fun. I don't see how this site infringes on the misogynistic paradigm that you are presenting to YouTube.
In the coming weeks I am going to do an analysis of your approach to "maniliness."
It won't be favorable. I do hope you understand it is not personal. You seem to be a very nice person with good intent. But where you fail on behalf of men is that learning how to clean guns and shave with a straight razor, and other supposedly "manly" pursuits, while appealing for the unenlightened, is little more than a retro path to help men avoid the real dangers they face from their ignorance of (cont)
modern day political realities. Men don't actually need to learn how to clean a gun near as much as they need to learn how to avoid being raped in family courts or how to avoid being jailed on false allegations or appropriately react to how they are bashed, belittled and marginalized in the culture as a whole.
The role you are promoting, and the ignorance it requires, is making our sons vulnerable to the current system of feminist governance.
@coolhandkyle Its a good idea, however I feel that if Art of Manliness were forced to put out a magazine like Men's Health, GQ, Esquire..so on and so forth...they would eventually become that beast themselves.
Self-sacrifice is the core of humanity, or should be. It's definitely a virtue both genders should strive for. Christ was the perfect example of this.
1 John 4:12 No man has beheld God at any time: if we love one another, God abides in us, and his love is perfected in us.
That was a great video. I especially enjoyed and learned fromt he part in which you adressed the difference between manliness and stuff that is manly. Love the site. Keep up the great work!
Dear sir, I enjoy reading your blog on a regular basis and have found it a great resource. I humbly offer my support to your endeavors and would be greatly appreciate more videos of this kind.
Keep going, keep it sharp and smart!
