"the devil and god are raging inside me" is my favorite album, daisy isn't at the same level, but over the last two years it has really really grown on me, make sure to give it some more spins
Congrats man! Anytime you get a Holy Grail in it is a time to celebrate! It is amazing how the more I watch you videos I feel like I don't know a dam thing about music lol! Take care D man and great seeing you back in the new year!
With your eclectic taste in music and interest in a variety genres and bands, I'm surprised you aren't familiar with the wonderful PJ Harvey album "To Bring You My Love". Get it ;)
Melvins!!! Best band on the mother earth! So proud you got that set! I'm the biggest Melvins fan in the world and don't have it, only the RIH version! What other Melvins stuff do you have? Lysol, Houdini, eggnog, and stoner witch are now a must for you! But the sickest Melvins performance I've ever heard in my life is on that residency set. On the colossus/Lysol/eggnog lp tracks 3 and 4. Charmicarmicat into hung bunny/roman dog bird!!!! Almost 28 mins of pure hell!
pre-emptive post, good lord. $500 is a lot of scratch, but for something like that, which could be appreciated by anyone, vinyl/music fan or not, just awestruck
I wouldn't worry about spending that much money. You clearly love the product you got, and its good to spend money on whats important and your collection is obviously important to you.
Congratz with the Melvins. Whatever you paid for, the shivers it brings to a music lover or collector are irreplaceable. If that box make you shiver, then you did a damn great job buying it. Enjoy that very very special piece. It is probably worth every penny. Hope to see you more behind the camera this year.
Awesome video as usual Dan. I've been watching all your videos and really respect your insight and opinions on music. I'll be looking forward to all your new videos this new year. That Melvins box set is just fantastic by the way.
I have been buying CDs for a year now because it's same price as downloading, except you get a lifelong physical copy, but I wish I had never started a CD collection and went straight to vinyl. I never realized how much better quality a vinyl is than a CD. Its nice that you can upload your CD music to your computer, but I'd rather have the crisp sounds of a record soothing my ears in it's finest quality.
Liquid Swords is a classic! I just learned about discogs.com which allows you to create a wishlist that you can show friends and family. FYI. I love Billy Bragg. I'm thinking about springing for that SMile Sessions. Man I love Conor Oberst. Dude, when you are buried you should put that Melvins box set in your casket so archaelogists can find it in a thousand years. That thing is a beast.
Whoa, when you whipped out that Melvins box, my heart literally did a little leap of joy. Congratulations, man.
I know you don't listen to a ton of hip-hop, but if you like Liquid Swords, I highly recommend all of GZA's other solo records, as well as Masta Killa's. I love most Wu-Tang related releases, but GZA in particular has a pretty consistently ethereal feel, keeping with his first record.
You should get yourself the new Smashing Pumpkins reissues. Really fine stuff. Those two records were terrific quality anyway but I think it's really been boosted somewhat.
Would you suggest listening to 'The Devil and God are Raging Inside of Me' as a starting point to get into Brand New? I tried to get into them before but the really clean, radio-friendly vocals sort of put me off. I don't really want to explore deeper into the 'emo' genre, I just really like the song 'Sic Transit Gloria'. Cheers!
I also regret not getting the Melvins set. Though there was some talk about a release in NYC sometime this year. When you think about it, a few $100 more and you get a seriously custom set compared to the 200-300 pizza box. No two are the same with your set, plus they've been personally messed with by King Buzzo. Congrats.
Hey Dan!just wanted to say ive been watching your videos for the last year and greatly enjoy them.i hope to join the vc community at the end of myself so hopefully ill be able to return the favor of your videos.melvins is a great looking box so enjoy it.u need to treat yourself sometimes.
I can't imagine waiting so long to get that PJ album, but I'm an obsessive PJ fan, lol. Glad you have seen the light! If you dig Nick Cave, you'll definitely like To Bring You My Love, that or Rid of Me is what you should check out next.
Funny thing is we were planning to do a video of our Melvins vinyl this week, one of those strange VC coincidences. I had to pass on that set even though I had a chance to get one. Just too much $, but it is so beautiful. Very happy you picked it up.
SubRosa! I've been spinning that album again recently after getting it a while ago. Hope you get time to make new videos, we suck at making timely videos too, lol.
We end up buying each other records for Christmas, it works out. Fred Neil is classic. Tim Buckley does an amazing version of "Dolphins."
I had to pick up the Liquid Swords reissue even though I had the original press, needed that poster!
Indian is sweet. Agree with the Cough comparison, love them too.
@asdf123555 - Two Legs or Ten Legs? Two Legs I lucked out and got for $50 from our shop, Ten Legs I ordered directly from the TenClub for $29.99. And yes, I'm certain Legacy is slowly working their way through the PJ catalog, having done Ten, Vs and Vitalogy. I'm sure No Code & Yield will be next, who knows if they'll skip Live On Two Legs though? they just might.
I'm gonna bite the bullet and get a copy of Yield soon though, I've been obsessed with that album as of late. -Dan
@dhanycz I have a copy of Yield and it's a great album. My favourite has got to be the Avocado album and I finally got a copy of it on vinyl. I also lucked out and ordered PJ 20 from amazon. So glad to have it
@dhanycz hye man great video. I was going to ask you if you had Letting Off The Happiness. I was wondering what ever happened to your greatest of the decade videos. Did you not like them or just want to redo them at some point. Have a great day man.
No wonder why you haven't been posting. Clearly, all your time and energy has been devoted to figuring out how in the heck you were gonna get ahold of one of those babies!!! No point in wasting any time with buyers remorse. I am gobsmacked. That thing is UNBELIEVABLE!!! Congratulations.
Holy living fuck! I actually gave some thought to buying that(Melvins) too, but couldn't swing it. Just watching the progress of the construction was so damn interesting. That would be a fun art show to go to. Maybe tax time. Ha! I have 3 Indian records and they're all pretty damn good. It'll be great to see your face more if you can make the time, Dan. Always love your videos!
nice find on Liquid Swords. Just hit me that I don't own any hip-hop vinyl 0_0 well my collection is just starting anyhow.
I still have yet to hear the SubRosa album in full, unfortunately. My jaw dropped when I heard a track from that though. There's just so much damn music I still need to hear. :/ hopefully I'll get on it. Love you man! -Robby
@UniversalMind08 - thanks man, I agree, definitely one of those purchases that is a tough call to make but I'll never regret it. let alone ever sell it, the thing's mine for life. -Dan
As soon as you got to the 2nd part of the video, my jaw literally dropped. Excellent find and mindblowing that you managed to snag one on such a limited run. Well done and, at the very least, merry Christmas to you haha. Also, Liquid Swords just so happens to be my favorite Wu Tang related album and is easily in my top 10-ish hip hop records. Very strong release. I hope life's going well for you. Take care!
@Threecreation - Hey man! it's gorgeous that's for sure, and some truly amazing performances on those LPs. Gotta love Liquid Swords eh? love that opening sample the best, totally sets the mood of the whole album. Hope all is well! Thanks man. -Dan
@dereckvon - haha, tell me about it, I had to wipe it down before I showed it cause I'd been drooling over it since I got it on Tuesday. my mind's officially been blown. -Dan
i really like your videos! keep them up man. have you heard of the band warpaint? i really like their music and was wondering if you had any vinyl or know any bands that are similar
@93amonster - I really like the The Fool, great record. if you like that kinda thing I'd recommend Blonde Redhead, Galaxie 500, Wye Oak and you might dig Bat For Lashes as well. Cheers. -Dan
