i have built many stages, thats how i pay my bills and i have seen staging withstand 70mph winds it wasnt the wind. i would have to say someone probably made a mistake setting it up... sadly this shit does happen more often than it should and sometimes people die. it can be very dangerous.

3 Major mistakes were made here. A roof that high SHOULD NOT have had wings or a backdrop on it. Given the number of people in the crowd I would also assume the stage company was not given the option of using guy-wires and steaks. If it was a windy day they also should not have taken the roof all the way to trim.
