Also, when I have my mp3 player on random and a Queensryche song from promise land comes on, it sometimes surprises me because I never gave it a chance but the song is actually really good......I just wanted more mindcrime at the time I initially listened to it.... and then moved on..... Queensryche isn't the only band that I do this with and I'm sure most other people have the same experience sometimes as me with that.
Also, comparing which band is better? Come on....... Its just like anything else. To each his/her own. Life would suck for me if I listened to Rush all the time. I like a couple songs but for the most part is just too non groove for me. Some would call it "too white". I can understand how someone would really like them though. They obviously take writing music to a deeper level of detail than 99% of musicians out there. You just can't compare bands that way ..realistically .
Just saw these guys at the Intersection in Grand Rapids Mich. They Rocked, Period!
People change, you can't keep them in a box so that they stay the way you want them to. This isn't always a bad thing.
Popularity has nothing to do with quality. I'd prefer they lost 90% of their fans to just doing songs the old fans loved.
They did 0 MindCrime the other night. While I love that one it was nice to see them do what they wanted. I've seen MC in its entirety 4 times now. Its always great
Hey, somebody fill me in, the last album which I think was kinda week, Hear in the Now Frontier, marked somewhat of a descent,... and losing DeGarmo. IS anything from them post-'98 worth listening to? I'm asking.
For Your Information Operation Mindcrime wasnt just Chris's baby It was Geoff 's as well .They where a sold writing duo for many years .After Chris left Geoff and the rest of the band wrote songs together ,If a promenant band members leaves after so many years it puts a heavy strain on the band tremendously .Anyways the sucess of band has nothing to do with lack of members ..
sorry for my long post but iam going to have to post it this way cause your tube only allows 500 words a post ...so pelase bear with me
it has to do with the sound and direction of the band you canot point the finger at one member and say oh the album sucked because so and so wrote the majority of the album its not fair ...Bands work as a team to exchange ideas . There is a reason why Queensryche is called "The Thinking Man's Metal Band "
If the band continued to be stuck in the 80's the fans would complain, and when they are trying an honest attempt to return to their roots they still get bashed ...When will you music fans ever stop complaning about the music your band makes ..Remember its not 1980 for crying out loud in order for a band to continue what they are doing and be fresh in the minds of the music buying society they have to change there sound ,
Im a professional actor. I have enjoyed bands from all over. I came into adulthood with this band. I HOPE THEY STAY 80's!! I don't want them to change!! I like them the way they are. This is what makes them own.....
I tell ya folks, I've been following these guys since 84 and I've got three words for ya...Bring Back DeGarmo! This is a great album though, much better than the last several. I'll take whatever Queensryche I can get though and will still travel to see em!
Am I the only one who's depressed that the only recording on youtube of I'm American is a live show taped with a crummy microphone? I'm sorry, but I love this song and am more then a little sore that we only have ONE video for it.
just saw them, put on an awesome show ill never understand how anyone can think their post-empire records are bad. I think they need to open their minds. they've always put their heart and soul into all their songs. ill take them on their worst day over other stuff. theyre up there with major leaguers pink floyd, rush, pearl jam, nevermore, to name a few. rearrange you, hands, hostage r my personal favs off OM2
absolutely right! it seems music critics want mindcrime or empire with every cd they put out. where are al the other bands from the 80's who dissappeared. Ryche is still around doing awesome tours and putting out new cd's every couple years, they never slowed or went away. even tribe and q2k have some of my favorite Ryche songs.
"even tribe and q2k have some of my favorite Ryche songs."
hey, thanks for the reply. im with you all the way, brother. i love Q2k and Tribe. In fact, its safe to say i love everything from these guys. their music always gives me some perspective on life, uplifts me, and keeps me strong.
Their fan base is not what it was that is for sure. my only point was they have always been an active band. they aren't like most other bands from their era who tour once a decade and only release cover albums and compilation cd's. i was trying to say how I like the way the band has evolved, unlike critics and some fans. On the plus side of smaller crowds, I like seeing my favorite band in a club, where every spot is up close. rock on!
so whats your point? they're not worth listening to because of a drop in the number of fans? its not my problem they want the band to go backwards and follow the mindcrime formula every album. im glad tate never paid attention to their whining and did what he believed.
anyway, im not gonna stop listening to them. they're missin out.
mickronson1, my point is- most of their fan base that once liked them when they rocked in the days of their prime (mindcrime 1, empire era), can't stand their new stuff. Apparently it changed so much so that DeGarmo decided to leave years back. How would the Ryche be different had they have followed continued to follow Chris' muscial direction instead of Tate's musical direction?
And for all I know, if chris had stayed, they might be in a deeper hole right now. He did have a role in making the poorly received Hear In The Now Frontier, right? Now, I love that album, but apparently like 70% of the fans didn't. but who knows, maybe if chris had stayed, maybe they would be more successful right now. we'll never know for sure, but it's really an irrelevant question for me because I am very satisfied with the direction geoff has chosen for the band.
Also mickronson1, the old fans are not missing out !!! Most of them have moved their prog listening to a more talented band who has yet to reach their prime and who's following keeps growing (probably with each new Ryche album), who is this band??? Dream Theater.
"a MORE TALENTED BAND who has yet to reach their prime and who's following keeps growing (probably with each new Ryche album), who is this band??? Dream Theater."
now this comment was totally lame and unncecessary. "a more talented band?"
i love dream theater. why would you compare them? they're both great bands, just leave it at that.
mickronson1, glad to hear you like DT and maybe the comparison wasn't accurate. For some reason me and other fans of the Ryche don't care for them as much anymore, it actually for me happened after Promised land. I went to see them live on building empires and promised land tours and the later sucked. Also when it comes to playing guitar, Mike Stone was a poor replacement for DeGarmo.
that's fair. your entitled to your opinion, and i respect that. everyone perceives things in their own way, it really depends on what you're looking for in music. but it sounds like we have more in common than not. do you like pink floyd and rush? it's been a cool discussion.
I can vouch and say that I'm a Queensryche fan gone DT/Rush fan, I still love their work from Promised Land though. My reasoning? Ebohan74 put it perfectly.
i worship Rush. they are men among boys in the rock world. hell, they maybe the greatest rock band ever. but i also love hear in the now frontier, q2k, and tribe, and OM2 just as much. it's the powerful songwriting. til this day, ryche's lyrics still resonate strongly with me and more than practically any other band, even if the musical style has changed over the years. and actually, for me, the change in musical style is very creative and interesting.
i don't know and don't care what chris thinks of the band. if he didn't think there was any potential left in the band, then that's his problem, and he therefore made the right decision by leaving the band.
They up and died after Promised Land - which I still believe to be their best album. I think Chris saw the end coming and saw the change in music taking place and envisioned Queensryche's eventual fall from popularity.
that ones pretty good. i prefer "the Hands" or "the Chase". but i think we can all agree that The final song is nothing compared to "eyes of the stranger"
Same that payback and harrisfan. Give it a second chance. It's much better that q2k and HITNF, of course, but it's even much more. However, I agree that compared to some other albums its not the same.
Saw them in DC last week and it was an awesome show. Its great to see these clips on YouTube but, I gotta say, watching the guy in front of us holding up his cel phone trying to video the entire show in 2 minute segments got really annoying after a while.
