Blades (and bludgeons) don't need reloading. With a gun you can always run out of bullets. The best way to ensure that your blade won't break is to make your own. Lawn mower blades can be strengthened and seriously upgraded into basic swords. (You know what I'm talking about, Fallout 3 & NV fans.) Guns would be good when dealing with hostile humans, but I'd take my chances with running for against zombies. I would definitely look into upgrading my weaponry. One inexpensive blade is the Cold Steel Kukri machete. $19 or less depending on where you go. A good Bowie knife is advisable as a backup. As a bludgeoning weapon, I'd find a battle mace, check out Atlanta Cutlery. But firearms is the way to go.
Any of the following long arms: SKS, AK-47/74 or AR-15. Shotguns are probably the best choice, try a Remington 870 or Mossberg 500 in 12 or 20 guage. (Use slugs or 00 buck). Hope this helps. :-)
