Im 15, weigh about 60kg and yesterday i dumped a 17 year old second row into the shit. The only reasons injuries will happen is if you dont commit to the contact. It shows..
Every contact sport is dangerous in a sense, but players know the risks of the sport they play. They know their career could in a single match. But we still play because of the rush, theres no better rush than knowing you've made a good hard tackle on someone. Rugby is not too dangerous, its just gotten more physical.
One way or another, after a 12 year career of playing professional rugby, your body is going to be fucked by the end of it. Thats something you cant get away from. Whether its worth it or not, is up to the player
rugby is slowly changing into a game where it's more about power and the collisions. very often it's a good solid defence, with big hits, that wins games. whatever happened to the fast, skillfull running rugby we had back in the seventies, where players were the size of normal men, and not spending hours on end in the gym, but practicing skills of rugby. It's much more entertaining to see a player streak through a line and hit space, rather than see players charge into each other.
Apparently it was Jonah Lomu that started this bigger harder trend. I was watching some documentary and mentioned how he came into the game out of nowhere and was just brushing off every tackle. So everyone then a) needed players to combat him and b) wanted their own version of him. Take it as bullshit, that's what i heard lol
is it me or would we all like to see him get hit in the legs with a bowling ball ? and they showed 2 blindingly obvious illegal tackles and a bunch of people hitting rucks illegaly most of which is the result of people being on the wrong side of rucks why cant they just realise that as players get bigger and faster and more athletic the hits will be bigger and that potential for injury will increase rant over lol
@JON3SY1000 one might also argue that aside from the physicality of the game, there are finer more skillful aspect that can be enjoyed as well. although your articulate assessment should suffice.
@spam2094 i think they seem to bulk up alot within short periods for instance james hook has filled out massively and lee byrne, not saying they are, its awsome if they've done it naturally !
@matt2k6wales are u fucking joking m8 u must be :S they get that big from working soilidly hard on and off the field there life is rugby thats is how they get so big you tit
@DrakarOgro Fair enough.. makes sense to me.. i totally agree with u. I think ur comment should be directed at the fucking gay team doctor... he should be happy there are alot of injuries otherwise he wouldnt have a job... why is he complaining hes not playing.. the players r just like yeah this is why we play it!
@DrakarOgro agree that rugby is a hard game. having said that there is few bits that are really dangerous. the reason being those guys are bigger and stronger that 4 or 5 years ago. so those guys are not pussies they are just saying that rugby becomes to physical compare to what it use to be, to go around the opposition and not just go throught it, which is really dangerous.
Haha, i like the use of Metallica. Plus, what would rugby be without impact? Injury comes with sport, so people just need to get over it and play the game
@heshinator1 - Did you even watch the video? This isnt club level rugby. The sport is MUCH harder at theprofessional level. These are big injuries and concussions we are talking about, that are occuring very regularly and if 25% of your squad was injured ALL the time you would have to be a halfwit not to recognise that there is a problem. It isnt fair to the players just to say 'thats the game now, get on with it'. What about their condition 10 years after they retire?
@AntillRS m8 they play it for the love of the game you get ingured then u reover then get out there and play again rugby is achally a lot less brutal it achally used to be a lot tougher bach 25 30 years ago you were only alowed 1 sub in hte game and he was only alowed to be used if the player on the pitch couldnt play at all I.E broken bone
@0797whayhay. No. its a much harder game now. had you played it at club level in the last 10 years, which i doubt you have, you would know its gottem MUCH more dangerous. 25 years ago players were taught to tackle around the legs, now you are taught to hit square on, and stop the player dead in their tracks or push them back. Players are much bigger and heavier too, which adds to the risk of injury in contact. Plus, all the old players are sayng the game has gotten much harder.
@AntillRS o ye i dont disagree with you rugby is a much tougher game now than it used to be evrybody knows it, but it is a much diffrent game now befor it became a pro game 15 year agao :)
Impact is a part of the game,if you dont wanna get hit or hurt dont play haha its not like you are forced to play! and they should not change anything, i dont want rugby to get pussyfied like american football
no sport is worth getting this hurt over. the only thing i would get hurt or die over is self defense or if i had to fight some 1. like really, come on. u got 2 be smart here.
There used to be more grace to the sport and more skilled players. If I wanted to see a bunch of beefed up guys using ramming into each other as their number one tactic, I'd watch American football.
Gentle push and shove? Half the oldies I know have bent noses and missing teeth! Rucking used to be a mess due to side entries, ignored stamping and lets not forget the french specialty, gouging. There used to be far more fights too. Nowadays they do hit harder and are fitter but lets not romanticise what it used to be.
@matt2k6wales seemingly 75% from impact lol, I thought it would be more actually. I just hope they don't add pads and helmets as obligatory in the future, I'd rather they ref the rucks than have that.
FUCK, my bloody parents don't let me play! it's such a good sport
