I'm not digging all of Helmet's songs, but what I gotta say I love from what I've seen, is that hamilton tends to change his voice for particular songs, such as Unsung, and Ironhead for examples. To an uninformed listener, they would sound like two different vocalists. I like that, too many singers sound always the same(especially radio bands, which is why I hate them).
@kubahobo That's cool. I was the same way when I first listened to SOAD's Toxicity album, now I only care for maybe three songs off the album. Taste changes with time.
Awesome! You can tune in to each instrument at any time or just let the whole thing wash over you. Nobody else nears the power, riffs and bottom end rumble of the best band in history.
@volscho No doubt that the Stop'n Go guitars is Helmets trademark together with the tight & special Stanier snaredrum-sound, which make the songs even more tight. Havent heard much new stuff, because "The Hamilton Project" changes line-up TOO much. The special Stanier-snaredrum is gone & Page needs to work with his vox.I would like to hear him sing "I Know" or "In the Meantime".But Helmet ís Still Bad Ass! Never thought about Jimmy Page "started" the Stop'n Go riffs.Have a L.Z.box I'll check out.
@NorthernPanzer666@NorthernPanzer666 "invented" is too strong a word on my part, but LZ definitely used a lot of "stop n go." Ocean, Black Dog, Nobody's Fault But Mine, etc. Hamilton's use of timing is difficult to duplicate and John Stanier mixes well with it (I like his Battles stuff, though I am not a drummer)
@ryac259 As the number started that was my first thought..Holy Shit, Stanier is (once again) just awesome..First hit on the snare & its so clearly to hear its his special snaredrum sound & of course always tight as Hell...

Does that guitar not have a neck pickup?
Talk about distortion.

the timing on their songs is the best, jimmy page pioneered the hard rock stop n go riffs, but these guys perfected it
