  • Abel light weight hammers ??

Is this man from Toronto Canada?

    Interesting.

  • So many people on Youtube playing Art tatum transcriptions, play them too fast, faster than the Master himself! Why?

  • @gferrick

Well I can't speek for other's, but here is my excuse.I put this same song on a video a while back(please check it out)it was smooth and effortless. However someone said" let's see you play it on a real piano".So I said I will shut that wise guy's mouth and play it little faster that Art's recording.Yes,I am not pleased with the performance, but I thought I would make up for it by revealing the transcription(which I did my self)at the end Would'nt you know now they say "its too fast"..

  • Amazing/ Everything - touch, feel and so on. almost perfect.

  • Nice vid, shouldn't have sped it up though.

  • @helmut4lyfe

Thanks, This is the God's truth, there is no speed up tricks. The C-5 I am playing had Abel light weight hammers(mahogany mouldings) installed. This action is lighter and easier to play than other Yamaha's.(honestly)I am a piano technician by trade.

  • Hey. Thanks for all those videos, I really apreciate it. I'm 16 years old, I play piano when I was 7 years old, classical music, and I'm on jazz from about one year on guitar, but I like to learn on piano too some. Where can I get this transcription? I see that it's on the video, but I will like to print it. Waiting for response. Thanks !

  • wow, missed this one somehow. These comments are over a year old on this video, but from THESE comments, you surely underestimate the market for your transcription and other related skills. Tatum still has a unique reputation with pianists and even a 'faint dream' of playing like Tatum will cause pianists to spend a few bucks. If you haven't already, you should work with a publisher like Hal Leonard to get some things published.

  • @wadecottingham

Thanks for your encouraging words. Please remember that Art Tatum's records themselves were a poor commercial succsess(hard to believe). Hal Leonard is interested in making a million dollars, not $10 here and there. I have accepted the fact that jazz music in my style is for kicks only.Thank you again for the kind words and blessings on your life!

    Rog

  • you've had thousands of hits (all videos combined), obviously SOMEBODY has interest! even if you published it yourself (you already have it transcribed), it's just a matter of printing it and selling it. I'D BUY IT!!

If anything, sell the midi files. that's worth more than the printed paper! what an amazing learning tool! (thanks & don't STOP what you're doing)

  • Thanks,I will do much more. The trouble is there are lots of expenses in royalty's & etc.I have heard of churches being fined for infringements just by performing songs in a service. Also I would not know how to even start legally.

  • @rkjp56 I also heard something similar where some volunteers singing in Nursing Homes being fined for infringement of copy righted materials by performing with unauthorized photo copies of the music holding in their hands. That's why so many people are embracing YouTube, they take care of business.

I would just love to hear your runs on the upper registers less empowering, then I would imagine that you are piano touching the smaller hammers.... be honest, you are doing a marvelous job already.

  • Man, you should be transcribing and publishing these things as another profession!

This is perfect, without any of the mistakes we usually find in transcription books, specially the chords!!

    Congratulations!

  • Thanks! Yes there are a lot of mistakes in the books today.I wish there was a way to make money at this hobby.

  • Well, there must be!

If no publishing company pays attention to this, set up your own business!

You will get rich and we pianists will get happy!

  • Your very kind.I am afraid there is not that much interest in this kind of thing. Perhaps in another world.

  • WOW! true genius at work and the fact that you can transcribe that almost verbatim is simply extraordinary. Can I possibly buy this transcription from you. I just bought the new Gordon Goodwin "Act Your Age" CD which is on here. If you have any information, that would be great, but I would like to solicit your services if you wouldn't mind!

  • Dear piano-friend!

I admire your Tatum "Feelings" very much. Especially when you only are inspired of him...but "Yesterdays" here is amazingly close to Tatums own version (and speed)...Congratulations!!

    A Friend.......

  • Thanks friend. I have been playing 1 hour/day Tatum finger excersize's about 3 days /week. They have been very helpful. One of these days I should share them.

  • where can i find your transcriptions to play for myself?

  • I'm really amazed man! I enjoyed your playing and the video at the end, which came as surprise to me. This is one of my favorite Art Tatum pieces... Thanks for recording it!!!

  • Can you transcribe "Tiny's Exercise?"

  • Sure, sounds kind of like a commercial gimmick, but I like it. The problem is others asked things which I must do first. Give me a couple of months.

  • Well, it is the only Art Tatum Exercise outside of Dick Hyman's courses. But it would be nice if the transcription was public domain, seeing as how I'm 17 and still don't have a credit card. etc

But I get what you saying, so I'll give you some breathing room.

  • my favorite Tatum composition, thank you so much for sharing!

  • Wow!! One of the best yet - the C-5 surely helps. Maybe you could s-t-r-e-t-c-h out the work for a few more of these gems. Super!

    -Klav

  • Wow! What a performance! I'm in awe of your great technique and feel. Thanks for letting me know about it. Bravo!!!

  • Bravo, Rog!!! That was a great performance on a fine instrument. I imagine Art would have been proud. Thanks always for sharing your gifts and hard work with us. Also thanks for clarifying what Art's left hand was doing at 00:55--how did you ever figure that one out? Regards, Adam

  • Thanks Adam.Thats a terrific comment. In the old days you had to listen over and over. Now they have transcriber-2 software which makes the job easy. The problem here was the recording did not come through clear. Many notes I had to guess on.Talk later.
