My Basset Hound is a Puppy mill survivor, she came from an Amish puppy mill in Berlin Ohio, she around 6 years old and when we got her we where told that she had been bred soo many times. she was around 4 when we got her. We know that she had no shelter and her last litter of puppies as well as her where found in the snow when her rescuers arrived. Those puppies sadly had already went to heaven. Puppy mill owners are heartless and cruel and in my opinion should be charged with murder 1st degree
Is there a way to stop businesses/stores from obtaining puppies from Puppy mills? Or how does it exactly work? As long as puppies are cheaper from buying from breeders, people will always buy it from those stores.
These people if u can call them that, cause they obviously don't have a heart when they put this poor animals through hell, should be given a taste of their own medicine, they should put them in a wire kennel naked and barefooted no food or water and slap them around everyday for a couple of days so they can see what they put these animal through

i don't support puppy mills what so ever, if anything the owners of these places should be shot on site..but at the same time, the dogs from pet stores need homes too..so to say "don't buy a dog at a pet store" i see it as neglect as well,the animals at pet shops are not robots..they are dogs that need good loving homes,especially knowing where they are coming from.

Two years ago we bought a toy poodle from flaw dogs ( an organization that rescues puppy's left behind at puppy mills). And she has had 2 lexating patellas, ear infection, stomach infection, her "baby teeth" didn't fall out so they had to pull them out. And the vet says even her hips are out of place
puppy mills are sick. Sorry cute dog store, but you don't buy from responsible breeders. Although adopting is better, buying directly from a breeder is ok too. As long as the breeder is responsible and the dogs are in a safe enviornment. Sometimes, a breeder will often allow you to check out their facilities. My family did that with the last dog we bought. (dont worry, we have rescue dogs too). Not all breeders are bad, but puppy mills are awful
This is absolutely disgusting. Poor little puppies, locked up in cages for the rest of their lives...it's a good thing that these people are doing such a good thing. Our dog came from family friends who rescue their dogs from puppy mills to breed them at home.

people that run places like this give real breeders a bad name. Best thing to do to a puppy mill before you call the cops... is rob the HELL outta them. Puppy mills ALWAYS have safes because of the cash paid for puppies. The safes are usually at the owners actual residence and NOT at the actual puppy mill. It just takes finding out where they live, getting someone to make a puppy order, and finding the safe when their gone. Thats what i see in puppy mills, an opportunity to rob someone who deserves it.

I have made the mistake of buying a dog from the pet store, two actually. But we breed them with care and sold the puppies to loving homes. When the father died of being hit by a car, (D=) We ADOPTED. I also donated to the local animal shelter.

There are so, so many unwanted pups all over the world, and breeding your unpapered pet store pooches really doesn't help the situation. Spay and neuter always, unless you are a registered show breeder set on preserving the breed standards and maintaining quality bloodlines; an expensive, not-for-profit hobby.
Makes me wish we had the money and resources for our military and police forces to just sweep through the nation, stopping serious crimes like these...

I adopted a dog 2 last week. I feel really good about it. If you have room, please save a life. My dog has heartworms, I dedicated my self to treating him and making sure he never has to go through that again.

This is why you NEVER buy a puppy from a pet store EVER, many of the puppies come from conditions such as these, and often they end up dying from genetic conditions. If you do buy a puppy even from a breeder do your research on that breeder, ask to tour their property, see where the mommy and puppies are kept and look over them both, also ask to see the father. A good breeder should be able to give you genetic health records for the parents going a few years back.
I personally think it is really really idiotic that people would breed dogs like this and expect people to buy them!! i mean, if you had no idea that they came from a puppy mill, would you buy them?? you can say yes, but all people have that little voice inside their head that is telling them, "ewww!! that dog is ugly!!" and you would probably not want to buy them. And then you have to think, what happens to the dogs that you buy from pet stores?? what if no one buys them?? what happens then?

Puppy mills produce sickly inbred puppies. I bought my puppy Rottie from the shelter for 85 bucks, neutered and shots included! 3 years later, still healthy and strong.

The people that do this to these animals have serious issues. I think for every dollar that is spent to care for/eucinize these dogs after they have been rescued, that's how many hours the puppy mill owners should be required to volunteer at an animal shelter.

in 2003 me and my older sister went to the pet shop and she offered to buy this baby german shepard since i always wanted one. I almost slapped her, if we ever go to the pet store its for dog food or just to look. My dream came true April 11, 2010, i have a german shepard we got from the pound named shade and hes a sweetheart.
I bought a puppy from a tore called Petzone. 3 months later a puppy mill in NewMarket is raided that breeds schnauzers and poodles. Where did my dog come from? NewMarket. What breed is my dog? A Schnoodle. Whats a Schnoodle? A Schnauzer x Poodle. Though he is an excellent dog and I love him I should have realized he was from a mill when he came with 3 types of worms, kennel cough, infections and colds and now what I believe is hip dysplacia.
This is definitely an extreme case, but everyone should be against puppy mills; however, not everyone wants to adopt a dog, and most people can't afford to pay th 2000-4000 dollars a lot of breeders are asking for their dogs. Breeders could help by lowering their prices.

I live in Costa Rica & wanted a sm. dog. I wrote to rescue orgs pleading to let me adopt from them. I was willing to fly up to the USA, pay for my hotel, pick up the dog & to fly home in the cabin of the plane. I offered 2 send pictures of my home,my FENCed yard & send letters of recommendation from people who know me, including my vet but. NO ONE, not ONE of the agencies allowed me to adopt because they couldn't do a 'home visit' .so I bought one. SAD
We need to bring the vigilante code back. These people who do things like this should be afraid of consequences. Not the ones by a currupt judicial system. Real consequences by real vigilantes.
It's extremely sad to see such horror like this, especially if you're a dog lover.. People are so ignorent that they don't even realize that these poor puppies are being tortured to DEATH... Pet shops should STOP buying their dogs/puppies from Puppy Mills!!! There are many good breaders around North America who should be the ones selling their dogs at Pet Stores. Many people need to realize that most dogs from the Pet Stores are from puppy mills. Or check out a local shelter and save a dog's life and stop buying from Pet Stores and like they say on TV, have your pet spayed or neutered!
adopting is good and all, but just refusing to buy puppies from pet stores won't solve the problem. we need regulations on breeding so that only responsible breeders are able to sell puppies. if we only adopt puppies, what happens to the puppies that get sold through pet stores from puppy mills? i don't support giving these stores profits, but i just really don't understand how you can just boycott animals like that.

Puppy mills should be stopped. It's really sad what happens to these dogs. To me, dogs are human being's greatest companions. In return for their loyalty and friendship, we give them this!?

I have made the mistake of buying a dog from the pet store, two actually. But we breed them with care and sold the puppies to loving homes. When the father died of being hit by a car, (D=) We ADOPTED. I also donated to the local animal shelter.

There are so, so many unwanted pups all over the world, and breeding your unpapered pet store pooches really doesn't help the situation. Spay and neuter always, unless you are a registered show breeder set on preserving the breed standards and maintaining quality bloodlines; an expensive, not-for-profit hobby.

@djqx that would be too easy they wouldn't actually suffer as much as the dogs at their mills, they should be put in tight cages with lots of other mill owners and not be fed very little, then, let them wallow in their own feces and then be let to rot in the cages after they died

Yes, this is a REAL Puppy Mill... This give a gate way for the Animal Rights people to simply prove a point. With that said.. There are a lot of USDA inspected GOOD Puppy farms. There pet stores purchase puppies... NOT ALL PUPPY FARMS ARE LIKE THIS PEOPLE.... THERE ARE 3000 inspected locations in the USA that ARE NOT RAN LIKE THIS.... 3000 Inspected GOOD places. I adopted a dog 2 last week. I feel really good about it. If you have room, please save a life. My dog has heartworms, I dedicated my self to treating him and making sure he never has to go through that again.

This is why you NEVER buy a puppy from a pet store EVER, many of the puppies come from conditions such as these, and often they end up dying from genetic conditions. If you do buy a puppy even from a breeder do your research on that breeder, ask to tour their property, see where the mommy and puppies are kept and look over them both, also ask to see the father. A good breeder should be able to give you genetic health records for the parents going a few years back.

I personally think it is really really idiotic that people would breed dogs like this and expect people to buy them!! i mean, if you had no idea that they came from a puppy mill, would you buy them?? you can say yes, but all people have that little voice inside their head that is telling them, "ewww!! that dog is ugly!!" and you would probably not want to buy them. And then you have to think, what happens to the dogs that you buy from pet stores?? what if no one buys them?? what happens then?

disgusting. when I was little, my dad bought an expensive cocker spaniel puppy from the local pet store. It had all kinds of health problems and we ended up having to put it down after spilling hundreds more on vet bills.
Puppy mills produce sickly inbred puppies. I bought my puppy Rottie from the shelter for 85 bucks, neutered and shots included! 3 years later, still healthy and strong.

The people that do this to these animals have serious issues. I think for every dollar that is spent to care for/eucinize these dogs after they have been rescued, that's how many hours the puppy mill owners should be required to volunteer at an animal shelter.

I almost slapped her, if we ever go to the pet store its for dog food or just to look. I bought a puppy from a tore called Petzone. 3 months later a puppy mill in NewMarket is raided that breeds schnauzers and poodles. Where did my dog come from? NewMarket. What breed is my dog? A Schnoodle. Whats a Schnoodle? A Schnauzer x Poodle. Though he is an excellent dog and I love him I should have realized he was from a mill when he came with 3 types of worms, kennel cough, infections and colds and now what I believe is hip dysplacia.

This is definitely an extreme case, but everyone should be against puppy mills; however, not everyone wants to adopt a dog, and most people can't afford to pay th 2000-4000 dollars a lot of breeders are asking for their dogs. Breeders could help by lowering their prices.

I simply don't quite understand when vast majority of the world population suffereing from poverty/dieases yet there were people crying over puppies but can live happily for the rest of her life without realizing the world people is suffering on a much greater scale.

I live in Costa Rica & wanted a sm. dog. I wrote to rescue orgs pleading to let me adopt from them. I was willing to fly up to the USA, pay for my hotel, pick up the dog & to fly home in the cabin of the plane. I offered 2 send pictures of my home,my FENCed yard & send letters of recommendation from people who know me, including my vet but. NO ONE, not ONE of the agencies allowed me to adopt because they couldn't do a 'home visit' .so I bought one. SAD

Pet shops should STOP buying their dogs/puppies from Puppy Mills!!! There are many good breaders around North America who should be the ones selling their dogs at Pet Stores. Many people need to realize that most dogs from the Pet Stores are from puppy mills. Or check out a local shelter and save a dog's life and stop buying from Pet Stores and like they say on TV, have your pet spayed or neutered!

adopting is good and all, but just refusing to buy puppies from pet stores won't solve the problem. we need regulations on breeding so that only responsible breeders are able to sell puppies. if we only adopt puppies, what happens to the puppies that get sold through pet stores from puppy mills? i don't support giving these stores profits, but i just really don't understand how you can just boycott animals like that.

i cant stress enough how sad it makes me that so many people STILL are not educated about this. people are still buying dogs from stores not knowing how much suffering they are causing innocent animals. i tell everyone i can to please ADOPT!!! there are so many wonderful pets waiting for a home , and many ARE pure bred too as much as 20 percent because of people not understanding the breed and buying them without consideration of temperment.
