fking idiot's i cant believe that You believe this is the right way thats sad You don't press those buttons to change the ring that makes it more fked all you have to to is put the plug deeper in the battery box and that called 3 vanes; so all you got to do is when you got 3 vanes turn off your xbox check your battery pack if the plug is out put it back in or push it deeper if its a bit out!; done!

@tubehelpr i better way to fix the red ring of death that worked for me was plug in the av cables to your tv and ofcourse the power cable then turn it on by pressing the open disk tray button then right after the sync button but not at the same time and eventually it will boot up again. Hope it works for ya

Well I have a jtaggable 2006 model I left it on probably about 12-15 minutes, turned off, waited 15 seconds, it froze, turned off, waited 5 seconds, and it's been on for the last 10 minutes without any problems. I'll leave on for an hour or so and get back, but your method WORKED and it only took ONE try! I'm not bullshitting anyone, I'm pretty skeptical of things but now I just need to order some parts for perm fix and JTAG stuff. THANK YOU!

This does work, I just put in BF3 and it asked to do an update, so I let it. upon reboot of xbox I got a locked up start up screen, so switched off and on, then got 3 red ring error. After searching the internet found this video. This solution worked 1st time for me, and I am now playing BF3. Great post. Though I will give the xbox a quick service, even though I was inside it earlier in the year.

Alright pepole you don't realize why there is the 3 red rings. It is caused from the xbox overheating or a wire short circuiting inside. You can't fix it permanently like this. My xbox isn't red ringed becaues unlike you I keep it ventilated and clean it out. This will not work.

@silencer5391 look its a simple fix dont over heat your xbox dont take it apart 3 rings mean over heating so if your system stays in one spot all the time it gets dust on it and in it. a simple is take a bottle off canned air like you would use to blow the dust off your computer. and use the canned air on the power brick all the openings on the xbox that means take out your hard drive. once done plug back in open your disk try and use the canned air on that as well.

@KnightshadesShadow in doing so it get the dust out meaning the chip that reads the temp of your xbox will stop acting up casue all they really do when you send your xbox back to microsoft is they just take the chip out then send it back this way you dont have to over heat it,take it apart,or send it in. i hope this helps.

My 3 rings don't start showing until 20 seconds later. It teases the hell out of me; making me think it will work. but NOPE... I tried this 6 times and also left it blinking with 4 lights for 20 minutes which totaled 7 times. Came back to turn it off and it will still blinking four rings by the way. Waited for 15 seconds and still three rings when turning it back on. Yeah, I also took out the hardrive. So this doesn't work for me. Glad to hear others had 'luck'~

hey guys i found the REAL WAY TO FIX IT ... after you open the plastic part OF THE XBOX you will see screws in the middle around a X there are to Xs the screws around the Xs those are the ones you need to tighten them THATS IT JUST TIGHTEN THEM AND ITS FIX!!!!!
