@SpartanForgeWorld300 They do at my local dollar stores. Blank ones that is. As for prerecorded, some independent video stores had them in the bargain bins for a dollar a piece.
Hmm. I had a similiar TV. Also a Linytron Plus, but a 19" portable model. I threw it out with the transition to digital. Nothing of value was lost. By that point, the image jumped if I touched the controls, the UHF tuner required intense finagling, the picture was dark with brightness cranked, colors were washed out, chroma was lousy, and the set overscanned badly. It might have been an okay TV when new. Maybe. But it felt cheap. And for '85? Daaated.
i rember when i was little we got a big tv from someone at christmas i couldnt read yet since i was in preschool or kindergarten one night the kids wanted to watch alice in wonderland byt my fosterdad wanted the football game my fostermom says the kids can use the bigscreen u can use the little tv my fosterdad was like aw hunny the tvs small i cant see the game she was like the big tv was given to the kids not u
My family moved to the US from Europe in the 1980's and this was our first TV! We never used a remote control and just turned the dial for the channels/the other for volume. I saw cartoons like He-Man & She Ra, Inspector Gadget, Muppet Babies, Dennis The Menace, etc. and TV shows like Dukes of Hazard, Bosom Buddies, A-Team, Knight Rider, Different Strokes, Punky Brewster, Mr Belvedere, Family TIes and Small Wonder. I miss this TV for the nostalgia...it brings back many memories
"BIG SCREEN 25' TV!!!!" ........um........no? I remember the 80s. They had 50' TVs back then. sure, 19' was the standard at the time, so 25 was slightly larger. But "BIG SCREEN"??? NO! YOU LIE!!!
@Lostmymind1 You mean those stupid big screen TVs that you needed to watch from really far away, and directly in front of, otherwise you wouldn't be able to see the picture properly?
@CoolConejo I'm talking about those giant projection TVs from the '80s and '90s.
My ex girlfriend's family had one of those. Worst TVs ever made.
And of course, they had it aimed at the window so that anyone passing by could see that they had a big screen. But with the layout of the living room, you could barely see the screen properly from the couch. I'm sure they only bought it to show to the neighbours.
That was a per-week rental. Most places like this had a "Rent to own" program where after having the items for a couple years, and paying the weekly payments, it was yours... at exorbitant interest rates. After two year at this rate, the "renter" would have paid almost $2100!
Sad to say, these RTOs still exist, preying upon and exploiting unwitting customers who are tricked into thinking they are getting a deal.
my dad bought a VCR around 1982 because he just started to work, he said that the full price for a VCR was about 1200 dollars. Also he had purchased a TV RCA i believe, and the VCR so he now recalls it was around $2900. now you can get a VCR at wal-mart for $45 and a TV for like $300
They sell no more VHS tapes anymore lol

VHS was awful when it was new, the colours are dull and the picture looks like you've smeared vaseline on the camera lense. Betamax forever!

Are you talking real dollars or inflationary dollars? Either way, the RTO store was a scam then and is a scam now.
freakybuzz 2 years ago
Real he worked at a Pizza place and it was like 30 pay checks

@freakybuzz When I was growing up, we got a number of rent to own things.
Mainly things we couldn't really afford, like a great big surround sound home theatre system [very prestigious in the '90s].
Eventually we couldn't make the payments so the home theatre went back to the store, and it was back to the 19" Electrohome with the dying CRT.
It sure was nice to live in the lap of luxury for a short time though.

@freakybuzz I don't mean to be a prick, but can you explain to me, in even more depth, how the supposed "scam" operates?

@MIKON8ERISBACK All you need to know can be summed up in to words: Compound Interest.
