  • he had a happy good life R.I.P Merlin

  • Oh don't feel guilty! He lived a wonderful long life! There is literally almost nothing to do for kidney failure, 7 months or 17 years old. You did not fail Merlin at all. He chose his own exit at the time he needed to exit. You did GOOD!

  • im so sorry for your loss

  • My 16 year old cat died today. I'm very very sad, and crying all the day. I wil never be happy again.

  • Yes, don't blame yourself - cats are very good at hiding illness until it is almost too late.

  • Oh no. He looked fine in the last video. What happened? My cat is 16. I might have to face this myself pretty soon.

  • He did look fine. Since cats typically don't show pain and I'm a stupid human, I didn't understand what he was telling me. The one thing that changed with him was his meowing but he was always talking and we thought he was trying out new sounds. I thought his weight loss was the healthier diet he was eating. If I'd listened closer, he'd still be here. His kidneys were failing fast and we caught it too late to help him. He trusted me and I failed.

The guilt and loss I feel is overwhelming.

  • I'm sorry to hear that, but they do get old eventually. Merlin was 17 so he lived longer than average. There was only so much you could do. Don't blame yourself.
