Central Independent TV was amazing, we should start a campaign to bring it bk! What do we need ITV PLC for?
Granada should never have taken the Majority sharehold! The latest presenters to join Bob Warman lately are awful! Whats happend to Charlie and Emma? That new girl is Crap!
central followed on from ATV in 1981. boy was that a tough act to follow. ATV was simply the greatest ITV franchise holder. central did a good job afterwards but i think the best days of tv broadcasting were already over by then.
well Central still exists in the Midlands but not on the Big scale it use to be. only the news centres exist now. Lenton Lane Nottingham Studio has been sold off to one of the Universities & Braod Street B'ham (Television Centre) has been sold for redevelopment. It would be nice to have our Central Idents back, but I guess thanks for the many contributors on You Tube we can still see and chat about them.
I agree. Central was what I grew up with, it meant Quality and innovation, and there was always something to watch. Nowadays, ITV is Bland and Boring. Change!
I'd love to see Central back in the Midlands. So much came out of Birmingham and Nottingham for the network in the 80s and 90s, it is just a disgrace after closing these centres the Midlands is now nothing but a production wasteland :-(
You're sort of right, geography27. The regions do still exist, but only 'on paper'. ITV could bring back regional identity tomorrow if it wanted to, but it never will - it's too expensive for them, apparently! Result: the viewers are switching off in droves... Nice one, ITV!
Are they dreaming at Central News? Central doesn't exist anymore, so how can it be 25 years old! It was fully taken over by the dreadful Carlton in 1996 and the trade name "Central" was dropped in 1999! Then in turn becoming part of (Granada-Carlton) ITV plc. The Midlands division now being called "ITV Central". Bring back the original Central Independent TV!

@christophermorris26 Granada NEVER took majority in Central. It was Carlton, aka, never produced their own programming.

From making the majority of programs, to being nothing. All thanks to Carlton and Granada's greedy asset stripping. Stinking animals.

Central's achievement was just a drop in the water compared to the showbiz giant that was ATV.

I don't see how it can be too expensive.
They're certainly not spending any serious money on their current output!.
They're just not making the effort!.
