  • To the haters, I love a liter bike's sound just as much as the next guy (read: a lot), but if the noise is that non-negotiable, go get some damned headphones. This thing is vastly more efficient than any gasoline bike out there, and produces MASSIVE torque like no other. A diesel couldn't do what this thing does. Motor and controller tech is so very good and efficient that batteries only have a little way to go and they'll beat the hell out of any gas bike they see.

  • Put some gears in that gumby.

  • enormous power +enormous torque= more glue on the stickiest rubbers! Also at 550 lb. max weight & 365 ft.-lb torque is it compulsory to have drive on one wheel only? When you remember the big front wheel on 1980 TRON light bikes the designers glanced at an obvious need ,now is our near future

  • wow

  • excellent

  • sounds like an rc car

  • What a soul less thing that "motorcycle" is.

If i wanted to listen to that caterwaul i would just go out into my garage and power up an angle grinder or an electric drill.

Now excuse me whilst i go fire up my v-twin suzuki to get this noise out of my head.

  • what cc are these bikes?

  • Torque Monster!!! It's a demon on the straights, but I't looses a little in the twisties. I'm guessing the engine compression braking of the gas bikes helps them slow and allow them to get back on the throttle quicker. This bike looks like it runs a little wide in the curves, is it a little heavier too? It's probably going to take a change in riding style to maximize the high end- I wonder what Rossi would do on it. I love where this is going!!! Next all electric racing- I hope!!

  • That thing sounds like a toaster... not a bike. The future is fucked up...

  • Electric bikes has the advantage of 100% torque all the time and does not need revving the engine as IC engines do (also your mind is free from trying to prevent engine blowup). Also gear shifts in ICE delays power output to wheels. So a good driver + electric vehicle would always be in the advantage. Amazing stuff!

  • Is most of the noise from the transmission?

  • @DieselGrunge I think so. It's a real dog off the line, but it pulls nicely once it's rolling I suppose.

Imagine high siding off that thing with those batteries flopping around in the tail section though :o

  • nice sound -_-.... :/

  • Wow! What a rush... I drive a quick turbo car but this looks amazingly fun!

  • O futuro é agora, em breve, vamos parar de queimar combustíveis e de fazer barulho! Sejam bem vindas motos elétricas. The future is now, soon, we'll stop burning fuel and make noise! Bikes are welcome electric.

  • O.K., this rider was catching other racers on the brakes and closing before the apex of turns. That is more about the rider than the machine, Especially when the bike is a heavy e-bitch. Anyone can open the throttle of a strong engine and hold on down the straight, but only a racer can make up time on the brakes and through a corner. Well done, racer! Great video.

  • Incredible!!!

  • Whaouu!! Putain la vache! Ca envoi!!! Mais dites moi, ces machines une fois en France, elles seront un peu nucleaires, non ?!

  • A brilliant piece of technology, especially considering it matches and can even better some of the petrol driven bikes. It does sound like he's riding a washing machine though!

  • Maybe u meant 2011 year but no 2010 in the beginning of the video?

  • Very, very, very cool.

  • Check out "Chip Yates discusses his first race on his 194 hp electric superbike". Should be in the "Suggestions" list on the right. He says he babied it at the start because he didn't want to flip it. Pretty interesting discussion.

  • incredible!

  • @dzij4 158 mph?

  • The sound is amazing! The old bikes he passes just make farty noises :-)

  • Dear Arabs- keep your oil.........

  • GREASED LIGHTNING M*THER F*UCKERS...watching this while listening to PAranoid by Black Sabbath

  • 40 years in motorcycling and this is a one of the most amazing accomplishments ever.

Congratulations and yes.......we can still do things like this in America.

  • I love combustion engines but this is wicked. The torque is instantaneous

  • oddly enough at swigz.com, (primary sponsor I guess) no mention of this bike in their news. Where do we find out more about this scooter?

  • Tron cool, just add some EL Wire!!

  • wow

  • 1:47- 1:50 PWWNED and desperately changing gears

  • I WANT DETAILS! this is very cool!

  • @head2winnd why not search, form what I can remember from BBC world service report, slightly better power to weight than ICE, batteries behind rider as passenger and also in front to balance weight, water cooled electric motors 195bhp. But wanyway, search for it don't rely on what I can remember, it's fantastic though, even pulls a wheelie!

  • I love that sound, it sounds like the future to me!

  • The date in the opening credits is wrong.

  • My cat doesn't like the penetrating high-pitched whine of the motor. But since he doesn't ride, it's not a problem ;-) One of those would make my commute a *lot* of fun...

  • Looks like the future, no problem with speed

  • Why can't you hear the other bikes like you normally would? are they all electric?

  • @nomads67 No, probably wind buffering a bad mic and the motor whine

  • i reckon it sounds awesome!

no gears flat torque line. perfect engine. i reckon some out of the box thinking water free energy stuff might be the holy grail for this bike. good luck! im watching closely :)

  • Im not quite sure i like the sound, certainly impressive though!

  • UNREAL!

  • Tron.

  • WOW! I'm impressed at the speed. Two weeks ago i got to try an electric 'ZERO' electric bike and couldn't believe the TORQUE. Must be weird not shifting.

  • sounds like a jet to me ... kickass

  • I'm so impressed I'm going to post this clip on the f1 forums. I'll do ya marketing... ha ha ha ha

  • Wow Im impressed, brilliant but what a shitty sound

  • After watching a second time, i can see where the regen braking allows for a deeper braking point thus rapid closing under braking. The torque is just sick for sure.

  • That is the sound of our shared future, the electric whine is the sound of pure power and torque. Now when 2012 arrives and we once again have NiMH batteries to use for range the electron age of transport will become the next normal. Great work and an awesome machine.

  • It would take a whole magasine article to answer all the questions, Im sure one is coming, When?

    what rag?

  • awesome speed but terrible sound

  • Unbelievable! The sound is weird but awesome, and the bike is SOOOOOO fast!

  • I reckon if the world can get 20 laps out of a single charge we could see the end of MotoGP and Superbike.

and yes that clip was well impressive. Good camera work too.

  • @Chilli0912 We could easily beam power to the bikes in the case of such races if we can't gain access to the new nano-Li-Ion chemistries which are still being kept under wraps by military technology transfer offices.

  • 1:45 = Fuck yea face

  • @TheRealMobo - Now there's an intelligent comment!

  • @martinwinlow Durr thanks.

  • I wonder how long the new World Championship Moto 3 class is going to last......?

Truly impressive video. I wish you every success.

  • Sounds exactly like I imagined! Great job keep up the good work.

  • DAMN!!!!! That bike is fast.

  • Unbelievable! Completely impressed, and this is coming from a former road racer.

  • Way to go Chip! Congrats to you and your crew.

  • Awesome ride!

  • it sounds like the scooter my grandma used to ride. I think hers was called a Rascle.

  • Is there any "motor" breaking, to slow you down?

  • @vonotto44 Yes regenerative braking from the motor puts some energy back into the pack.

  • @JRP3 Is this why the electric machine appeared to catch up the ICE bikes when slowing for corners? I also got the impression the e-bike was faster on the long straight...?

  • Comment removed

  • that thing is quick, even a wheelie, got one guy on the straight

  • Two words: Tron lives

  • brilliant, been waiting for this to happen but never thought it would be so soon.

You should come over to the TT with it !

  • pazzesca!!!!!!

  • I wonder how it feels being overtaken by a electric vehicle. It's a feeling the gas-powered world is going to have to get used to.

  • its a really powerfull bike!!!

    impresive

  • I do not know if she's singing or screaming a warcry. Truly impressive !

  • @zikzakfr ha ha excellent comment

  • very impressive!!!! pity you can't hear the real sound of the usual racing bike.. but still freaking fast!!!!

  • Brilliant. Keep on whinin, great sound.

  • Awesome!

    what a sound :)

  • WOW!! This is great seeing how well you chase down the gas powered bikes. The electric whine is also epic!

  • very nice viedo

  • woow !! very impressive !

  • awesome!!

  • next, Le mans

  • Awesome, keep up the good work Chip ! I wish you guys all the best with this project.

  • Wow, The bike actually does do very well against gassers. GO GO GO
