But soon enough, there wont be any need for the cams. Because the ppl will be surveilling each other.
This happend to me the other day.
I was putting up signs about a child who was abducted by authorities, because parents wanted to homeschool (see my profile) and a couple just got totally mad:
"You are putting up garbash on public areas, you´re not allowed to do that, child abduction isn´t the end of the world...."
oh. ok. But putting up important signs "illegally" in public places is?
1984 is a George Orwell book about the government controlling the population with cameras and information control. Big Brother is everywhere today. We are rapidly losing our freedoms. Cops scan 1000s of plates a day with those new video cameras mounted on patrol car roof tops. The government especially under Bush and Obama want more control and information on the Public.
@RiloKiley77, you have failed to meet the minimum per-capita requirements to stimulate the economy. You've been charged with under consumption, refusal to consume Ministry of Propaganda approved information and various other anti- globalist and anti-capitalist activities. You are sentenced to death by injection.
I got a post card or something of these guys years ago. I totally forgot about it. Now, in retrospect, it seems all the cooler that I remember that post card. These guys are talking about the stuff that I'm into now.
Love the sign at 3:45! As for your comment "This is a public space" in our city, that's what they refer to it, all right, "public space". Fact is, their "public space" is really Private Property. Don't know about your city though.
There are books lamenting the loss of public space like "The Right to the City: Social Justice and the Fight for Public Space "
In my own city, even our city hall isn't a public space.
Watched it right through to the end expecting you to be arrested.
I don't think you guys did anything wrong. However, I install surveillance cameras for a living and they do serve a purpose but they are abused at times.
Agree completely with your comments. Surveillance cameras serve a purpose (important one, actually), the problem is as you pointed out, --the humans behind the cameras.
I agree with you 100%. Nothin' wrong with nuclear bombs. So I don't understand why I can't buy a couple through our local black market. Nothin' wrong with guns either -agreed. Everyone over 16 should be allowed to own them. And nothing wrong with video surveillance cameras either. But here's the thing that causes me wonderment. Usually the same people who see no problem with nuclear bombs, guns and surveillance cameras see nothing wrong with them in the hands of government.
I saw a video on google called "Money as Debt". WOW did it open my eyes. Now I see how the whole system works and it's high time we stop playing by their rules, because we're getting screwed in the end.
Indianapolis Indiana circle downtown Sept 22 at noon, join us in protest of NEW WORLD ORDER, NAU, INVASION OF IRAN, RFID CHIPS, NAFTA, CAFTA, CFR, TEXAS CORRIDOR, AMERO, IMF, POLICESTATE; STAND UP FOR LIBERTY IN THE LAND OF FREE AND THE HOME OF THE BRAVE! PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD, THERE IS VERY LITTLE TIME LEFT - EVERYONE IS INVITED! FREEDOM NOT FEAR !
It's amazing that your lives are so controlled in NY that the cops first reaction is that you need a permit. He's not sure if you do, but just figures you do. Wow.
You freedom loving people need to get to New Hampshire with the Free State Project (FreeStateProject*org)
22 september worldwide protest against the extreme surveillance from governments and businesses, civil rights groups are asking everyone to set up demonstrations and take part in a worldwide protest. No more 1984!
I really admire the SCP, they are brave. there are too many surveillance cameras, and too many people who seem to forget or not even know about the dangers may be consequences of relying too fully on surveillance... and people are surprisingly vicious these days, how can you call legitimate protesters, who are not obstructing a public conveyance, who are not breaking the law in slightest, true assholes?
You bet pal! Although 1984 is based on Stalinism which is not communism - true communism follows leon Trotsky not Stalin so shove that up your yank arse:D
Your performance elicited an obvious and predictable response from the NYC Police; that's hack. NYC Police care nothing about your "political" statement, only about obstructing a public conveyance. You could have waved an American flag and showered an effigy of George Bush with rose petals and their response would have been the same. And hopefully they would have given you a summons for littering. Good art, however, and kudos for elevating our awareness of (not always evil) surveillance.

Beautiful. Love the dialogue with the guard(s). They are obviously tamed like dogs, but it is enlightening and depressing at the same time, to hear this dialogue.

It's because they can't trust us, which actually makes a bit of sense, but is also ridiculous.

Just like nuclear bombs, the problem lies with humans.
There is nothing inherentally bad about nuclear bombs, neither with guns.
So don't complain about them.
