The front brake gives over 70% of a bike's stopping power, and weighs about a pound. The whole set-up costs $40 brand new, and you change brake pads once a year at a cost of $4.
Skip-stops are good to know, but doing it long term can damage your knees, which cost a hell of a lot more to fix. Nevermind the wear on your drivetrain and tires from skidding 24/7

i just learned how to skid too, it is kind of exciting, good for you for getting into bikes so young. i wish i had started when i was 14.
