I first heard of Louisiana Red when I heard Steve Winwood sing "I am Loisiana Red" with the Spencer Davis Group at the Golden Eagle, Hill Street, Birmingham in 1964. Been a fan since.
@fzappa007 day and month are correct, but year is 1936 and place of birth is Vicksburg, Mississippi. I don't know where you got these info, but I can ensure you they are incorrect. I flew many times with him and still have copy of his passport, so there are no doubts about this...
Okay dokey my friend Mr.Trik, I am sure that I have made many mistakes getting to were i am now, and I must say enjoying the music of L.R. and his compatriots has sure gotten me closer to heaven..I'm not a young man but believe me i still can jam with the best, I promise you that...peace and love my friend!!
Great stuff. I played with Red a while back and we traded guitars for a couple of songs. He played by 68 Paul and I played that green Kay he's playing here.
Unfortunately, Gatorblue, not long after this footage was shot an airline (not sure which one) wrecked that green Kay, which was a gift to Red from Jimmy Vivino. So you got a chance to play something that no one will never play again!
Sounds exactly like Rory Gallagher's song "too much alcohol". I know Rory was a big fan of Red. Does anyone know if they were ever recorded together. Awesome slide playing Red! Love to see you in Ireland some time.
I was backing Red a few years ago and he asked if he could play my Les Paul, which I handed him. He tore into a song. By the time I got that old Kay around my neck, he said, "take a lead Gator." I started and realized he had it tuned the Kay in some minor chord. I screwed up the lead big time, and he was just slapping his knee and laughing. He pulled off his trick with perfection. What a sweet and talented guy. One of the few true Delta bluesmen still playing regularly. Great sense of humor.
Eric Clapton calls Red the "Best living slide player". Too right !!!!
