  • Just when I thought he couldn't get any better... <3

  • he shows his love in spite of her voice - damn, that's awful

  • I wish a man would look at me that way.

  • @Jezebl I wish Alan Rickman would look at me thay way ;)

  • Alan Rickman is so beautiful. His voice is angelic and his hair is pure gold sent from heaven. Is there ever a man as exquisite or dashing as him?

  • Sigh... it's a shame that I can't watch this without thinking "OMG it's Severus Snape!"

  • This man is exquisite!

When he look her, you can feel the love borning in his heart.

    Master!

  • Let's not forget Emma Thompson, who can convey so much information using only her eyes that she could probably negotiate peace treaties with them.

  • I agree, he would be a perfect Rochester... though William Hurt was perfect enough for that role in Zeffirelli's Jane Eyre... anyway, I do love this song (and the movie, of course) and I wonder if anyone can tell me the meaning, which maybe you take for granted, for I'm italian... thanks!

  • Does anyone else think he would make an excellent Mr.Rochester for Jane Eyre?

  • @ThiiNatawii ooh, theres a thought... *eyes glaze over at the idea* but who would be his "Jane," dya think?

  • Oh my goodness... MELT

  • I liked Alan Rickman as an actor before this -- whether playing a Bad Guy (Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves; Die Hard; Quigley Down Under); a Good Guy (however rarely) and/or Comic Relief (GalaxyQuest; Dogma).

That said, I think this scene is a brilliant piece of acting - all the more so because he doesn't say a word. But Rickman still gets the audience to believe that they are watching Cupid hit him over the head with a 15 lb. sledgehammer. (Never mind those dinky little arrows.)

  • OMG I love Kate's beautiful singing! I really wish she recorded this!

  • Ugh...

If only I could have a male look at me the way he looks at her

  • I know it's kind of weird to be attracted to someone who's as old as my granfather, but I can't help it. I'm totally in love with Alan Rickman <3

  • The look of longing on his face makes my heart skip a beat. He looks at her the way every woman wants to be looked at by a man. <3

  • Alan Rickman = most charismatic actor ever and the sexiest too if you ask me (despite him being 42 years older than me and born the same year as my grandmother!)

Kate Winslet = the most talented and beautiful actress I know - if any woman would make me go gay, that would be her.

So in short - this movie was bound to be perfect!

  • @Skylikeday If you haven't purchased the DVD from Amazon.com ( the 25th annv. ed.) I highly recommend too do so. You'll enjoy it for the summer with your family. ( include " Pride and Prejudice ", both together is outstanding !!! ).

  • There was a time when I had never seen this movie, and watched Alan Rickman play some very unsavory characters, like in Die Hard, Robin hood, and Quigley Down Under. When I saw this movie, the look on his face when he listened to Kate sing made me burst into tears! I thought him to be sexy to begin with, but now ....<3

  • kate winslet really pulled it off in my opinion in this scene. Her piano is great and she has a lovely voice. No wonder Brandon is seduced with a voice such as hers. I could easily sit myself and listen to her for quite a few hours.

  • Such a sexy guy........

  • Alan Rickman is the BEST Colonel Brandon!

  • He is dashing understated....which is the sexiest one can be.

  • Her voice is so beautiful and Alan Rickman shows his love for her perfectly.

  • Oh what a scene... I love Kate Winslet's singing, I actually love her so much, she's adorable!

And Alan in that movie as in general...*sigh* just look at me like that and I'll be clay in your hands!

  • يا حلو شعووور الخقققه ..

one of my best scenes ever ..

  • beautiful song♥

we need more men like the ones in Jane Austen's novels...

  • One of my most favorite scenes from any movie. Props to Alan Rickman for so beautifully portraying a man falling in love. Exquisite.

  • @redheadhikerbabe

Couldn't have ever hoped to have said it better myself.

  • @Stjarntydarna What a lovely thing to say! Thanks so much and best regards...

  • Love this scene. The way he looks at her. And how Elinor or Emma's character just figures it out right away, but is very discreet the entire film about it. This movie so good, we all can learn lessons from it.

  • @ragetti911 We should, actually :)

  • i wish they would extend this. is it really winslet singing or someone else? i love this voice!

  • @Torn2Bitz Is Winslet's voice. Pretty clear and soft :)

  • @richisexy

i absolutely love her voice then!

  • (3)

Rest you then, rest, sad eyes,

    Melt not in weeping,

    While she lies sleeping

    Softly, softly, now softly,

    softly lies,

    Sleeping.

  • to@LeCommedieDellArte

Ciao,Elena.Ero di passaggio nel tuo canale per vedere se c'erano novità.Sei impegnata come figaro!

  • @francotiola

Ciao, Francesco, caro, ti voglio bene, grazie di tutto! :)

  • (2)

    But my sun`s heavenly eyes

    View not your weepingt,

    That now lies sleeping

    Softly, softly, now softly lies

    Sleeping.

    Sleep is a reconciling,

    A rest that peace begets,

Doth not the sun rise smiling,

When fair at even he sets ?

"Weep You No More Sad Fountains"

Weep you no more, sad fountains,

What need you flow so fast ?

    Look how the snowy mountains

    Heaven´s sun doth gently waste.

  • Snape!!! Ahhh!

  • Beautiful

  • My chi sings to this :D SO ADORABLE X3

  • Rickman brought Col. Brandon such depth and ....uh he's just heartbreaking! You can see all this tradgedy and yet this bitter hope in just 30 seconds

  • Yeah. Its Kate Winslet :D

  • Hi. Does anyone know who's the singer?? I mean, I believe it's not Kate Winslet who's singing...

  • @KasiaGliwski i think it is her....because the original version is more operatic, so this is her own version...

and in one scene in titanic, she has the same singing voice...but i don't know maybe I'm wrong LOL

  • i love how the words are directed to the girl's tears, talking to the tears as if it was a person

  • his face at 0:53 was the background on my phone for AGES. By gosh i wish i were Mrs Alan Rickman <3

  • does anyone know what key she sings this in?

  • I half expected him to start singing "Pretty women..."

  • No lines, and the best one in the room. ^_^ Alan, I mean. Man, I need to see this movie...

  • Whenever I watch this scene,

my heart is filled with heartrending sorrow!

  • the scene at 0.24 is actually my screen saver :)

  • Liked the film so far when watching it but totally loved it when Alan appeared for the first time! :) He's so sexy it's unreal.

  • Lovely!

  • :::sigh::: I am so in love with Alan Rickman....esp after I saw him in this movie.

  • He's such a good actor, you can actually see brandon fall in love then and there! So sad! So romantic!

  • Look at Brandon's face. Have you ever seen an actor portray Cupid's dart hit harder or faster?

  • MyGod. Alan's gorgeous is this. .. Wait, he's always gorgeous! :D

  • @LoserVeggie I'm a guy , then I don't know about those stuff , But I don't think he's gorgeous in Harry Potter !

  • @fatizoo1000 I think he is. :3 But hey, that's just me. Everyone has their own opinin. Haahha. :)

  • Oh, Colonel Brandon! I love you! I wish you existed!'

  • I wish Alan looked at me like this ;/

  • Beautiful south of England...there's no place like there.

  • You need to look at the Kate Winslet's character which Col. B is falling in love with. Not like a lot of women today with their junk hanging out all over for the attention. Women in those days were not driven by vanity, 'celeb' fantasies and the media and magazines. So a woman of her character would make any man stop in his tracks in amazement of her beauty.

    It cuts both ways.

  • 5 people are sad fountains:'(

  • I DO love Alan Rickman!!! This movie is soooooooooo GREAT!!!

  • I like the show, at first she doesn't appreciate him (he was the 'older' man), but in time she matures too and sees the difference between him and willowby. And I'm glad she woke up and grew up to see it too:D>

  • This is one of my favorite films of all time. Great acting, great cinematography, great directing, great screenplay ( for which Emma Thompson won an oscar). Just perfect. P.S.- Be sure to listen to Emma Thompson and producer Linsay Doran's commentary after watching the film. It's very interesting and informative.

  • I love this scene! its just beautiful... the emotion in his eyes, the love. (even if hes acting)

PLUS hes exstremly good looking in this role (:

    swoon!!

  • Is it wrong to pause the video ever they do a close up on his face and pretend it's me he's looking at?? Because the look on his face just melts my heart. *sight*

  • I need this movie. I watched it for the first time on W network or something, and I just loved it. Hopefully it will be like 5 bucks at walmart.

  • @zeesta13

Bought my copy at Target and it was super cheap!

  • @DianaEstefan There's no target where I live unfortunately...I'm in Canada haha. I think my dad ordered me a copy for Christmas.

  • Those Eyes!.....Aaaahhh If Only!

  • If only real men were like this...

  • @Mslovesroses

some of them are. but almost all women giva shit because they perceive them as boring. just as she does. she only takes him when it becomes clear beyond any doubt that willowby is an asshole. if he wouldnt been so stupid she still would love to shag him and continue making fun of coronel brandon. it is sad and depressing but the truth.

  • @tresckow If they looked and sounded like Alan Rickman I could NEVER find them boring!

  • @MsAppassionata Yes thankyou I'm not the only one who thinks that.

  • thankyou so much for uploading... i love this scene the best (as well as the last scene too)... beautiful! thanks again xox

  • Will we ever be so lucky in finding a love like that? ....

  • Snape? Wait, no. I always find it hard to take actors which I know for another role seriously when they play something completely different.

I still can't watch Shia LaBeouf in any role other than comedy. It's not that he's not a good actor, I just will always see him as Lewis Stevens.

  • Alan Rickman is the best!!! This a great entrance, that not a lot of actors can do! We see Alan Rickman for the first time, but during one minute, he doesn't say a thing, and there's just his presence that we feel! Only with his face, he makes us understand why he is here, and how he will feel about Marianne (who is incredibly selfish!)

Colonel Brandon is my favorite character, and Alan Rickman is my favorite actor, and man!

  • Ah, this scene should have lasted more! And they should have record this song with Kate Winslet's voice!

  • It seems 5 ppl do not have a taste for the classics and true talent.

  • These women saying they could only love a fictional character, I know what they mean, I could only love a fictional character, Olive Oyl.

  • The best scene. *__*

He has such an alluring aura

He is so enchanted by it x33

  • (Sigh...) The look on his face is the result of that old-fashioned and romantic feeling that shows that he would do anything to bone her! :)

  • I LOVE YOU SNAPE!!!! :D

  • Kate has a beautiful voice.

  • He's looking outstanding...My breath caught up in my throat. Rima Horton is one hell of a lucky woman.

  • Alan Rickman is perfect for Col. Brandon's role...if I were Marianne I would have chosen him from the very beginning, he's mature, intelligent, sensitive and so sexy!!

  • Man the costumes in this movie knock me out. So pretty!!

  • The world definitely needs more Colonel Brandons... sigh...

  • @sunlightguy75 those don't exist anymore

  • @cabinthewoods90 I'm afraid you're right...

  • this scene is second only to the part where colonel brandon saves marianne :)

i want a man to look at me like that while im singing, as a singer this is the most romantic thing ever to me because not only is it her beauty, but its her passion for the song...and of course her beautiful voice :) so sweet

  • does anyone know the chords she is playing?

  • Great scene..i like it very much.

  • oh my God,his look... it´s so...believable... He always will be the greatest actor of all generations...

  • It's like the song is coming from heaven. Lovely book, lovely movie, beautiful actress and adorable voice. Thanks for uploading this.

  • I normally don't allow myself to watch a movie before reading the book...but Alan Rickman is so amazing an actor (and MAN) I can't. I HAVE TO SEE THIS. NOW.

  • I love this scene as well. I love Marianne's voice!! I also love the fact how Colonel Brandon's eyes look when he first hears her voice! BEST MOVIE EVER!

  • You can actually spot the exact moment that he falls in love with her. THAT is how good of an actor Alan Rickman is.

  • Ooh *swoons and sighs* Col. Brandon (The ever gorgeous Alan Rickman) I would melt by his feet... And when he read to Marianne at the end... Oh MY God, melt city.... Wonderful indeed oh happy me :0)x

  • is there a version of the WHOLE song sung by her?

  • One word: Sigh....

Marianne, you idiot, why'd you have to chase after that cad Willoughby? Made the movie a lot longer. Sheesh!

  • AWESOME scene thank you soo much for posting it!

  • I would love to meet the man who inspired Jane Austen to create such a character <3

  • i watched this movie so many times, my VHS version, actually broke lol i had to buy the DVD after that

  • @SilentKW hahahaha. yeah, this movie never gets old; it outlasts technology :)

  • I am a woman of 25 years and I find Alan Rickman very handsome in this film, very nice indeed x

  • The way he looks at her!! I ould give anything to have a man who looks at me like tha.

  • 'Ello Snape!

  • ALAN RICKMAN!!!!!

    <3

  • I'm Pretty sure Any Girl Would absolutley LOVE for a guy to look at her the way he looked @ kate!

Hell...If a guy looked at me that way..i don't crare if he's Fugly..We're getting married!

  • I love love LOVE this movie

  • I love this scene. Alan Rickman is so cuttenest and more atento!!! I love his!!!!!

  • So beautiful!

  • So beautiful....

  • Such a beautiful and moving song...

  • Her voice is so wonderful! A dream *__*

  • While she lies sleeping,

Softly, softly, now softly lies sleeping.

    Sleep is a reconciling,

    A rest that Peace begets.

Doth no the sun rise smiling

When fair at e'en he sets

Rest you then, rest, sad eyes,

    Melt not in weeping

    While she lies sleeping,

Softly, softly, now softly lies sleeping.

  • I love Kate Winslet

  • I love this song :) does anyone know where I could get sheet music for this version? I have one version, but it is a different arrangement and in the wrong key :(

  • One of my favorite parts in one of my favorite movies - Loooove Col. Brandon :) Go Snape lol

  • haven't even seen the whole movie. just saw this scene and fell in love, just like snape. i'm literally listening to this over and over and over. wish it were on iTunes!

  • the director was going to have brandon join in with marianne, that would have been perfect adore this scene and the movie absolutly incredible :)

  • I love this song! I wish I could sing it!

  • Loving this!

  • I liked him as Colonel Brandon! He's so sweet and caring. I wasn't really convinced that Marianne liked him though. I felt so bad for him with the whole Willoughby thing. He's ten times the person John Willoughby will ever be! I'm mad they gave hugh grant all the credit. He looked like an awkward twelve year old. He's such a pretty boy

  • @00DANNAY00 i thought that as well, it never seemed like marianne loved him, whereas in the bbc 2008 adaptation it did, but i do love this version :D

  • oh ah.... snape in love........ interesting! hes gone blonde for this too..... wouldn't it be interesting if you had both characters in a room and told them they were the same person.....

  • alan rickman is blonde in real life (and sooo hot i might add) he wears a wig for HP

  • Oh, Alan Rickman...

  • You see, fictional men like Colonel Brandon render me completely incapable of loving a non-fictional man.

  • @salladakathleen Me too - Jane Austen has permanently screwed up my love life. Men like Colonel Brandon do not exist :-(

  • @PianoChick

Exactly. Screw Willoughby. I want a Colonel Brandon for me =,(

  • @PianoChick I totally agree!!!

  • @salladakathleen

Exactly...but occasionally one sucks you in and you think you may have found him...til he pulls a Willoughby.

  • @salladakathleen I completely agree with you!

  • @salladakathleen Oh my, soooo true. I agree with you completely! :)

  • @salladakathleen Ugh... I know!! I love my fiance, but we 'fell in love' over beers at a house party... not the same =(

  • @bunbun5877 LOL! So funny! Not the same, but in your old age, you'll find it endearing. Very rarely does it happen like in the great romances we read and see in movies.

  • @salladakathleen i know what u mean... i don't think i could love someone as i love fictional characters like col. brandon or edward...

too bad you cannot find such a men in those days.

i think i was born in a wrong time :|

  • @MissStrawberryDrop

I have learned that the fleeting effections of the mind does not quite resemble the true earthbound love.

But who says you can't have both?

    Never stop dreaming!

  • @MissStrawberryDrop Madam, such a gentleman stands before you.

  • @salladakathleen Damn, girl, that was DEAD ON.

  • What key does Kate sing this in??

  • @crazeyiba I lowered it by five half steps, which should be the key of E flat instead of A flat like the sheet music. I think that's right. ;-) It matches up with the movie from what I can tell.

  • Oh, Alan. Alan, Alan, Alan.

Why can't there be more men like you?

  • Best. Scene. Ever.

If guys only knew, this is all a woman wants you to do: look at her like that.

  • I second that!!!

  • @RhettKButler OMG DITTOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • @RhettKButler

I completely agree. Who the hell needs the Willoughby's of the world when the Colonel Brandon's are so sweet, devoted and in love.

  • @RhettKButler I think they know this already. Most of them cannot be bothered.

  • @RhettKButler i agree i can never get the song out off my head

  • @RhettKButler

I agree, i would love to have a man feel that way about me, too bad it's only in fiction.

In real life if a man stares a woman like that he's a serial killer.

  • @krissyburjan Only if your "real life" is the paranoid, media-created fantasy of a fearful world that so many people live in today. It's the result of 24/7 "news" coverage of mad killers as though they were lurking behind every bush. Such a media-driven "reality" has created a world of fearful people who crave intimacy but distrust anyone who reaches out to them for fear that he might be -- gasp! -- a serial killer.

  • @davehshs Well said.

  • @RhettKButler

I would love to have a man feel that way about me. The problem is that in real life if a man looks at a woman that way chances are good he's some sort of sicko or serial killer. Col. Brandon doesn't exist in real life unfortunately.

  • @RhettKButler So, basically, frown and look bored? But where do I get the dandy costume?

  • @RhettKButler , I think we should get married. ~Raven

  • @RhettKButler Seriously! This scene needs to be advertised to the public for men to truly know how to appriecate a woman!

  • @daphluvsrickman I agree 100%

  • WHOA! Dude, when we watched this in class, when he walked in, I was like, "BAM!" :P
