The Greeks, Persians, Romans, Egyptians, etc were not stupid at all. History is litered with things that say otherwise. Battle stragedy, technology, building, you name it. It's because for them, they had more time on there hands instead of the hectic days of the modern age. You can go a few centuries back and tell the difference. Time was cheap and goods were expensive. Now days it's the other way around in most of the world.
