It doesn't make any sense. Why did U.S. forces have to take the Japanese positions in Umebrogal after they had already taken control over most of the island. Couldn't they have just waited them out until they succumbed to thirst and starvation? Sure, the Japanese were well-entrenched but they were pretty much trapped. Even if the Japanese were given the opportunity to counterattack, it would be preferable than leading endless rounds of suicide runs into interlocking fields of fire.
@LeCreuset05 It's because the Japanese can survive quite a while with a pint of water and handful of rice (In cave, underground). This mean they it will take a while and Japanese were sneaky and will get through the line and screw everything.
@LeCreuset05 you dont know how much supplies the japs had, a siege could take months maybe even a year and would take up much american forces who would be needed elsewhere. US capacity was great but lets not forget that the pacific was a low prio. most troops and equipment went to europe so every regiment able to fight where probobly needed at the front and not for siege
And if American Marines can't Russian Marines can and if Russian Marines can't then Foreign Legion can. But ultimatly if Spetnaz can't then no one can.
@rusty: No way it's an M1. If that's a clip ejecting at the top, what's with the long mag underneath? As for the pinging sound: it's a silent film that's later dubbed, for chrissakes.
In this case, find a picture of a Thompson smg from the side. Then look at the shape of the muzzle area at the business end of the gun. Now match it to the split second shown on this clip at 00:54.
Had to study it a few times but it definately looks like a standard Thompson smg to me. I'm going on the mag underneath and the profile of the muzzle.
LOL! It's a Thompson smg. He even holds it by the mag when he's lowered it. You can see the barrel sticks out further than a Garand, plus as I've already said - the muzzle profile. Also check out quick glimpses of the rear sight and the stock.
