  • I heard the song jay and Jayne did and then later on that month my dad was picking me up from a friends and he started singing to this song I'm the truck and now whenever he is in a good mood he plays the CD and "sings" to it but I HATE the one jay and kanye did

  • I knew this before jay and kanye did whatever the hell that was; btw, I'm 22 ;)

  • jay n kanye killed this song in a bad way, i grew up with this MUSIC i love it, otis has always been my favorite. true musician, they dont make em like him no more

  • I love this song!!!

  • Some people got here through Jay-Z and Kanye, some got here through The Commitments, some got here through the Blues Brothers.... and some grew up with Otis all of their lives. It's all good, as long as they got here.

  • Yo he kills the fuck out this dude gets into it love shit like this

  • @TheHotFreshmen

Isn't it good that comments can be left here by people for whom English isn't their first language. And no punctuation either!

  • HOW MUCH YOU WANNA BET, ALL THE DISLIKES ARE WHITE PEOPLE?

  • @newsblastsocialmedia Bigot much?

  • Jay and kanye

I dont like what they did to this song!

  • thumbs up if jay z and yezzy brought u here

  • Please dont tell me justin bieber brought you here.

  • This is an amazing song

    Got to na na na

  • I heard jayz & kanye west use this in the beginning of they song & I said I had to find out the real artist! I'm happy I heard this! I like it

  • Basically, nobody was ever better. Period.

  • So true iSteeeve. So true. Youtube has a lot of old songs that were sampled recently and most don't even know.

  • welcome to havana

  • Otis my man.

  • Great song

  • 20 people are def

  • Drop, nanana!

  • There should be a if-I-press-the-dislike-button-this-means-I-don't-know-anything-about-music-and-emotion button for this song.

  • Now Otis had the right idea.

  • JAY AND KANYE TOOK ME TO THIS VIDEO

  • I get sad when I hear his songs # squeez her don't tease her. R.I.P

  • Damn this shit feels good.

  • Jay-Z and Kanye brought this to a new generation and reminded an older generation that may have forgot. Many would not be checking this out except for their new album.

  • @iSteeeve Exactly! All these old heads are saying their ruining this song. But in fact their bringing awareness to Otis Redding.

  • Comment removed

  • @iSteeeve actually donkey from shrek did ^.^

  • Kayne and jay-z should go to jail pay a fine for copyright or something seriously a this was the song he made literately rite b4 he died

  • So sad he died at 27 ) ' :

  • Jay z and Kanye destroyed this song. You just don't sample/touch songs like this. I'm sure sure otis would appreciate love of music well done. I love all kinds of music , but jay z and kanye whatever his name is. Their version to me is an insult.

  • Jay-Z and Kanye shoudn't have touched this song. You can't improve upon this. What they did is equivalent to a post-modern artist taking something nice, urinating on it, and then pretending like it deserves to be in a museum.

  • @UneSteakFrites shut the fuck up they killed that song !!

  • Jay and Yeezey killed this but i love the original

  • I just saw this for the first time and it brought chill through my body as I realized this performance was the night before his plane crashed.

  • listen to the soul of Otis Redding...gone too soon

  • Most awesome song...I love this man!

  • The ones that are blessed with talent leave us far too soon! RIP Mr. Redding and the members of his talented band.

  • They are working their ASSES off. Absolutely criminal that Otis died when he did. Also, consider the fact that Otis is *26* here. TWENTY-EFFING-SIX.

  • fucking punk rock as shit

  • @smanspiff Yeah! ^__^

  • How could anyone dislike this! Emotion and ability that NOBODY these days has.

  • Saw him and the Bar-Kays at the Palladium Ballroom Here in Houston in 1966 before the Cassius Clay Boxing Match in the Astro-Dome in 1966. Next year he had changed his Name to Mohammad Ali. Will Never Ever Forget That Week of My Life.. Every got along. That all changed when Dr. King was killed. Otis Died the winter of 1967. I still remember that night at the Palladium as if was Yesterday. 1966 Was a Good Year for me. OTIS: May You Rest in Peace! !

  • @jbones61 I'm jealous you got to see him live... must've been so awesome!

  • @Ruffnekk73 It was an Awesome week. I saw him at 5 other places that week. But the most Incredible thing was at the Old City Auditorium Gym. He was standing next to me and talking to Howard Cosell. Now that was a big moment in my life. I saw one of guys at a funeral last week, and we talking about that day. The friend that passed away was one of those that was with us that day..God Bless All

  • Look at James Alexander there behind Big O playing the bass!!! Wow!

  • marivn gaye + otis redding = OMG.

  • @pewperskewper I feel that bay-beh.

  • *tears in my eyes* Bless you for posting this. All hail, the king of soul.

  • When you hear folks say, "live like there's no tomorrow", you never expect that there won't be a tomorrow. Although I'm sure the people on stage that night could never have predicted what would happen to them less than 24hrs later, they gave an outstanding and unforgettable performance which can never be duplicated.

  • Best song ever!!!

  • So many fakers out there...Otis was the real deal.

“When he shall die, take him and cut him out in little stars and he will make the face of heaven so fine that all the world will be in love with night and pay no worship to the garish sun.” - Shakespeare

  • RIP in peace to all the members of the Barkays. (Jimmie King- my uncle/lead guiar and leader of the Barkays). Sound so good after 40 odd years. God Bless.

  • @DeloneyCunningham Yes sir, your uncle has made music that has touched my heart. He and his has made music that will forever stand the test of T I M E . God Bless You and your family and anyone who F E E L S this.

  • Gone to soon RIP Otis!

  • RIP .... 12-10-67

  • December 10, 1967: the day the music died again.

RIP Otis, you are the man. You brought a lot of hope and joy to some of our lives.

  • this performance was two days before he died...i wasnt born yet but my husband was in England when Otis Redding died. He said it was one of the worst days in music.

  • oh man the trumpet at 2:14 is so sentimental..always brings a tear to my eyes

  • This video is so appealing and has mass appeal, that u gotta know, that after performing this song, he could do nothing else. Anybody who has empathy, would understand, what I am saying!

  • Yo when I heard this, and found out that he died, I wanted to die, because that's angle shit right there, and he was called home .... yes

  • NOW, this is MUSIC

    RIP Mr.Otis Redding

  • i fuckinnnnnnnnnn agreee

  • @ThirdandPine man this is gospel singing. this isnt pretty this is from the gut the soul. this is real singing. this is real feelings.

  • @ThirdandPine and i know this is a remake

  • @ThirdandPine So you're a music critic are you? You don't know anything about this man - that's evident!

  • @ThirdandPine I'm not surprised by your comments. Coming from someone who has Britney Spears as favorites. GTFOH!

  • @ThirdandPine Acutal he did what may artist fail to do when remaking a song.... Made it better. Just check out other renditions; they try to mimick him and not the original. He gave the song soul and passion.....

  • Gotta have some, necessary...

  • @GJNCA My comment had nothing to do with Chris Brown because he beat his girlfriend. I made that statement meaning he has a pretty boy voice. A professional singer that has a kind of voice that he does shouldn't sing any song the was recorded by a man with a MAN's raspy voice. For example, you would expect El Debarge to sing a Teddy Pendergrass song. Even if El Debarge did decide to sing a Teddy P song, I believe he would soun better that Chris Brown's version on Try a Little Tendernes LOL!

  • @rubyredbass Try again society has changed men to ass holes. Try a little tenderness when addressing man kind.

  • @GJNCA I don't know much about Bing Brosby's music so I can't say nothing bad or good about his singing.

  • Andrew Strong's version off The Commitments is better in my oppinion

  • @SlipKnoTxMenTaL ...wow.... Please tell me you're kidding

  • Comment removed

  • @menef71 I'm not kidding, but its only my opinion. You may think different, well that's your choice.

  • @SlipKnoTxMenTaL WHAT???? Maybe you're joking.

  • @chinadog1205 No.

  • THIS IS THE REAL MUSIC!!

  • they come in with that rim shot, at the bottom man. Otis was awesome. thanks for youtube. imagine how much of this stuff would've just died now the footage an all its beauty an imperfections is alive again...

  • otis gave the word tenderness an unbelievable true meaning!!

  • Wow. I was freshman at Case Western Reserve University at the time. I was too young to go to Leo's Casino which was his last performance. He died way too young.

  • best ever

  • amen, rubyred....before you can sing 'bout it, you gotta know what it means! r.i.p. otis.

  • The Original Bar-Kays band[ Soul Finger was their hit record], perished in that fatal plane crash into Lake Minona in the winter of '67, one survivor, Ben Cauley, the trumpet player, the bass player took a different flight, they were to perform in Madison Wisconsin that evening. The bass player, & trumpet player reformed the band & experienced great success in the 70's, they did the sound track for Issac Hayes' "SHAFT"'

  • @MrCsmall to add to your comment, one of the members, Alexander is the father of Jazzy Pha. Yall know Jazzy Pha.

  • this is music ^^

  • yah this man has a voice that goes right thru my soul him and marin, percy a bottle of wine candles sounds like a damn good night for the soul .

  • Otis is one of the greatest singers ever, along with Marvin Gaye, Al Green, Sam Cooke, Michael Jackson, Prince and Luther Vandross as well as a few others.

I love the way this song climaxes, he has so much so and feeling.

  • LAWD HAVE MERCY I LOOOVVVEEEEEEE THIS MAN, WHEN IM FEELIN DOWN I GET A BOTTLE OF WINE LITE A CANDLE AND SOME OTIS AND IM NOT ONLY FEELIN GOOD IM FEELIN DAMN GREAT OTIS IS GOOD FOR MY SOUL...LOVE YOU FOREVER

  • @ishlabadoo1 AMEN brotha!

  • @ishlabadoo1 U already know! I was sitting here minding my own business and watching NCIS! Da closing edits featured, THE KING OF SOUL, himself! OTIS!

  • @ishlabadoo1 What kind of user name is ishlabadoo?

  • The commitments version serves this justice.....trust me.

  • @kcwolf3 i disagree

  • LADY CACA U MEAN. EVEN BEYONCE. WTF HAPPENED TO REAL MUSIC. REAL SOUL. REAL FUNK. NOTHING BUT GARBAGE. THE MUSIC INDUSTRY SUCKS AND IT WILL ALWAYS SUCK. NOTHING BUT SELLOUTS. EVEN MY KIDS HATE IT. THEY LISTEN TO OLD SCHOOL AND OLDIES. WHY MUSICIANS ARE PAID MILLIONS TODAY IS A MYSTERY TO ME. AND JUST TO SAY. YEAAAA. HEEEYYYY. YEAAA. NO TALENT WHAT SO EVER.

  • wow he could sing that goodness for tapes.

  • sing it otis

  • Excepitonal memories of days gone by of Otis Redding & The Bar-kays... God Bless them for great times.

  • woooow!!!

  • MASTERPIECE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • God bless OTIS & the Bar-Kays <3

  • R.I.P Otis

  • As amazing as they are is, it really hurts my heart to watch this and think about what happened to them... =(

  • @MeChelleMyBellPhilly as they are* lol. RIP OTIS and THE BAR-KAYS.. taken from this world way too soon.. so sad

  • Never, ever dead are they. With us always in our hearts and souls. Thank you Otis, thank you Jimmy, thank you Ronnie, thanks you Phalon, thank you Carl. Creator continue to bless Ben, James, Harvey, Michael, Ron, Willie, and Larry.

  • Its sad how this was their last performace...All of them died in a plane crash the very next day..and only one of them survived that horrible crash

  • @RedRoseDrops20 Ben Cauley can still recall that crash like it was yesterday! 43 years later and he's still traumatized! What a horrific experience! After all he's been through though, including a stroke, he's still going strong and he deserves nothing but mad respect for that!

  • I love you, OTIS!!!!!

  • People think I like music from this era because I'm an "old fart.'

    WWRRROONNNNGGG!!!

I like this music because it's THE BEST ERA OF MUSIC EVER!! Nothing released today even comes close!

LISTEN to the man's voice on his last ever performance less than 24 hours before he died!! oh.......... my.............gawd!!!!!

  • @TheMulder1981 In the great "Unsung" documentary on TV-One the Bar-Kays bass player - who took a different flight - mentioned that they played two more shows that night before Otis and the band boarded the ill fated flight. He said those shows were some of the most magical ones they ever played. It's a shame they weren't recorded. That "Unsung" episode deserves an Emmy, one of the best documentaries I've seen in a long time.

  • @jsupe whole heartedly agree. So sad and to watch the sole survivor share his experience and just break down was heart wrenching. Otis is one of my all time favorite singers.

  • This man was pure RAW emotion! 43 years later his talent outshines many pretenders out there now or since. He will be remembered forever as one of the great voices of the 20th century.

  • Ben did play again actually, he was in the new Barkays for a little while the reason why he left was because at that point they were not making any money and he had a wife and two kids at the time so he left to find a job, so he could support his famiy, but he can still play even after having a stroke a few years ago.

  • lol! you are right rubyredbass- otis is to chris brown is like what ice cream is to ####

  • This is a wonderful performance buy Otis Redding.....

  • I've always been a fan of the Barkays and now I understand there "it factor"...They had that funk beat that you feel in your soul when you hear their sounds... You can only hear and feel that beat from the great ones and they are one of the great ones. I use the word "are" because that funky beat stays in your soul forever and never dies!!! OTIS, no one can come close to his sound... Now I love them even more after hearing their story. I love seeing UNSUNG... Thanks for the posting.

  • @BlueeiyedSoul, the remaining members name is Ben Cauley.

I also agree with JohnnyCanada. There's not REAL music anymore. When you heard a beat or opening moan, you instantly knew who it was.

This story will be on Unsung, tonite on TV One...

  • The lone survivor was the Trumpet player. You can google and find his name but he was as good as dead after the crash. I saw him talking about hearing the others cry out for help then things going silent. He never played another note and lead a tourured life. He said if anyone should have lived it should have been Otis because in his words Otis was a gift from God. So Sad.

  • did any or all of the barkays die in the plane crash with ottis if so which ones

  • @atkidz the bass player to the left was on a diferent flight. There was one one survior of the crash, but I don't know which band member it was.

  • @hankaaron1961 The bass player's name is James Alexander, he has a son he named after his bandmate Phalon Jones, today, his sone goes by the name of Jazzy Pha, he's a big time hip hop producer, and the trumpeter's name is Ben Cauley

  • WHAT A TIMELESS TREASURE!

  • increible

  • The Big O.and Bar Kays WHAT A SHOW

THANK YOU FOR THIS . GOD CALL YOU ALL HOME.YET YA'LL WILL LIVE ON IN YOUR MUSIC

    I MISS YOU ALL.YOUR BOY pittypatguidry1

    pittypatguidry1

  • oooh fuck !!! incredrible voice !!

  • Love the movie Pretty in Pink simply for Jon Cryer's lip-synch of this song.

  • the big o is Otis Redding ,not Orbison.

  • This was the night before they got killed rip

  • this is a great job by the groups

  • A great performance like this transcends time.

  • -the good die young-

  • How did we ever go from this to Lady Gaga?

  • LOL...VERY good question. I may be from the "gaga-era", but i prefer this type of music over Gaga ANY DAY, ANY TIME, ANY PLACE

  • @johnnycanada shit you said just made my day

  • @johnnycanada johnny I don't even know it (music) went down quick

  • @johnnycanada I so agree with your rethorical question... I say it's a perfect example of how much society has degenerated.

  • @johnnycanada sheeeesh!!!and all the other "Romantic" songs like Me & My Bitch.. Or the Classic "Pop Dat Cootchie"?!?!?!?

  • @johnnycanada

    Exactly my thoughts.......lady gaga.........gimme a freakin break.

All the music I need is already been done. Couldnt care less if there was never any new music made again.

  • @johnnycanada poignantly said my brother, and the answer is in the book,.even the young .ask the same question, they know

  • @johnnycanada I think it all got lost in the crack generation, but i sure as hell miss it!

  • @johnnycanada hahahahaaaaaaaaaaaa! How right ur!

  • @johnnycanada lol that's funny

  • @johnnycanada so is the world

  • CLASSIC....

  • love that horn at 2:44

  • OTIS sinónimo de SOUL.

Realmente emociona.Emociona su voz, su presencia,

y además da fuerza, mucha fuerza.

    Try a little tenderness!!!!

  • RIP, to a REAL LEGEND

  • and Otis said"I've been loving you to long ,don't wanna stop now" we will always love the Big O..r i p..

  • The big o was Orbison.

  • Now THAT'S passion! An absolute transcendent perfromance.. No one did like Otis.

  • @jhoward..other than the soul train performance with al green did with here i am baby this has to be ONE OF THE BEST stage performace by a male i have seen in a long time this was clearly someone that should get more respect than he deserves this was a powerhouse performance-says uzipolo king of decatur

  • Terrible video quality...yet, one of the very best videos of "one of the Greatest"... Otis at his best. Gone so young; thanks for giving us this video to remember.

  • I think "Otis" lived in a lot of artist in the70's, Al Green, Barry white, Teddy, Peabo

    Johnny Taylor!!

They sing with feelings inside their souls

Otis was a trailblazer, That's way the 70's

was a great decade for R&B Music because of him!!!!!!! Great job Otis R.I.P!!!

  • Otis Redding has no peer. The man was incomparable and his art remains so. RIP, Otis. We miss you greatly.

  • Man is born to die..Otis RIP.

  • I was in 9th grade when Otis Redding died & I must have cried for a month. I thought & still think he is the sexiest man I have every laid eyes on.

  • I just turned 40 and I used to wonder why they talked about Otis Redding all the time when I was a kid. I thought it was because he past suddenly in an airplane but now I know why. To me he has to be the No.1 soul singer of all time. Now I know where Al Green got his style. This right here is unbelievable, what makes him awesome is that he doesn't look like he can sing like that, then he comes out and hits those notes, incredible !

  • This is a MAN's song which means Chris Brown should not have touched it..

  • You couldn't have put any better, I'd actually add that this is a grown up man's song (i.e. not for children)

  • @rubyredbass i had no idea chris brown did it...the rage is now taking over

  • @rubyredbass LOL!

  • @rubyredbass Couldn't have said it better!

  • @rubyredbass give him props for trying at least. h\\

  • @mjjcng8958 I can't give him props for that. I'm not that good of a singer, but even I know there are certain singers songs not to mess with. A professional singer should know there range. If you sing with a pretty boy voice, you shouldn't try to sing Otis Redding songs. Otis had a real man (raspy quartet style) voice. Sorry no props for Chris Brown on his version of this song.

  • @rubyredbass i can dig it!!!!!

  • @rubyredbass Excellent point!

  • legende respect! man!

  • i have an uncle who looks just like Otis. :) i love this guy so much and this song is STILL amazing! i like to play it when i'm getting ready to go out.

  • jeben tip totalno steta velika zbog nesrece
