Wow, this movie isn't actually that bad. Why is everyone "about to cry"? Man, you people should stop trashing the movie, no one needs to see your pathetic insults.
I am Legend is kinda like a rip off, in my opinion. Why make a movie where everyone is gonna die anyway? I liked the dog tho. I am Legend is pretty much a pointless movie.
Moving on, I really liked this movie (I've only read the first book of the Dark is Rising series, but I liked this movie. And no, to anyone who was wondering, the setting was not placed in America >_>)
I am legend a ripoff?! what are you talking about you fool? yeah everybody gonna die anyway... umm watch the fucking movie till the end, don't walk out the theater with your small incompetent USA brains and say that a good movie is bad.
Now with that out of the way, you liked this movie? yeah as i mentioned - stupid little USA brains. you guys are made to watch this crap that hollywood shits out. Again you are a fool to insult i am legend because it's a great movie. you're a fool
I enjoyed it, because after reading the book, I feel that it wouldn't have been enjoyable if it was followed closely to the book. Look, if you want something closer, bug BBC to make one, but this was good enough for me.
I just watched the movie yesterday, and I really didn't like it. The Dark is Rising series are some of my favorite books, but I felt like the movie was to choppy, and a cheesy, and it changed the characters! I felt like it was too easy for Will to get the signs, and the movie never really showed how powerful he could be.
But...:) for those of you who have a different opinion and DO like the movie, thats awesome, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I just didn't like it.
I tried to read the book once. I love fantasy, but found it really... well, boring.
I'm interested in seeing the movie, not just because I'm interested in seeing how Chris Eccleston does in it, but because I think that if you didn't grow up reading and loving the book you'll like it more. Sure, it's a bad adaptation, but that doesn't mean it can't be a well done movie. I think I'll see it before I read the book so I don't judge too much.
It's sad that they felt they had to remove the soul of the story to turn "The Dark is Rising" into a movie. There is nothing left but a shell and a name. They should have just gone all the way and removed any reference to the books, so someone else with some vision could have made the series into movies.
The director is a fundie Christian activist and a right-wing propagandist. He has been committed to destroying Coopers work on a basic level, converting Celtic pre-Christianity to 20th century American Born Again propaganda.
They did Narnia, Walden is not evil and talentless like you say.
They've done more than Narnia. Holes, Hoot, Ghosts of the Abyss (team tagged on that last one, but whatever). Holes was quite accurate, so was Hoot. AND they did I Am David. If you didn't cry at that movie, you're an insensitve beast.
Don't freak out about an entire company just because you don't happen to like one movie.
Narnia was shallow glitzy crap with kids that I wanted dead. Holes was good because the original novel was so simply written and so strong. I couldn't give a fuck about Bridge to Terebithia (which was dishonestly marketed as a fantasy) and Charlotte's Web squandered the brilliant writing that distinguishes White's book.
And as for Mr Majorium's Magic Emporium? Christmas nerve gas for children.
Watch what New Line do with His Dark Materials. Walden SUCK.
You say you didn't like Narnia. Did you EVER ONCE IN YOUR LIFE see the other adaptaions? The British ones, or (God forbid) the cartoon?
Stop picking on a single company. Go get a life. Just about every comment on this video is from you, and they're ALL NEGATIVE.
Did you even see this movie? Dark is Rising had its day in theaters and did okay. I personally did not see it because I don't have time for fun stuff. ^_^
Can you tell that the people responsible for this film grew up in loveless WASP families and expensive, empty, dead suburbs. Can you tell that they spent their childhood in malls and video game arcades?
TRASH. Nothing left. A Celtic myth raped and destroyed by a corporate Christian fundamentalist. Keep your soulless hands off my ancient culture, you little plastic fuck-wits.
the order of the phoenix did the same thing.Out of the harry potter series movies movie five was the worst book adaptation of all of them. They got the general idea of the book but changed all the specifics. But that didn't stop the movie from being fantastic.Walden has doen alot of book adaptations for the past couple of year, i don't think they would have changed it so drastically unless they had some kind of reason for changing it.They'd know that i would piss of fans.
Okay, so I notice people are panicking because it's not like the book. What movie IS like the book? (Lord of the Rings excused, I've seen very few decent bookmovie adaptaions).
But on its own, for being a MOVIE (not a BOOK), it looks like it could be good. I vote people lighten up just a bit. It'll be like Eragon all over again in how it mutilates the storyplot, but it could end up being a well told story for what it is. We won't know until we see it.
But the point is that we should look at it as though it's just a movie, not like a bookmovie adaptaion. It'll end up destroying the book, but if we consider it as just being a movie, it could be good! xD
Nevermind the fact that Eragon killed the book it was based on. It was an average movie from a movie point of view
No, this isn't about being unlike the book; this is about it being textually the enemy of the book and everything the book represents; a calculated assault by Born Again Christians on a work that sought to link Children with their ancient Celtic past.
Dude, calm down. It's a story. It's not going to be accurate. Get over it and huddle down in your corner with your friggin books. When people see this, half of them will think: wow, that was cool, I'd like to read the book now.
If you don't like it, don't see it. End of conversation!
lol, "differs in 3 ways, wills age, wills nationality and everything else" trust me, if you havent read the book and your thinking about seeing this film, do one or the other, under no circumstances do both. more concerned with money making than the telling of a tale
but, still... i haven't read the books, and if this turns out to be another book-based-movie like Eragon I'll be pretty mad. be sure to warn me if that happends, please.
Hmm... I haven't read the book, but I've heard it's good. Except the movie looks kinda... pathetic? Hmm...
Question! Does anyone know what movie the first song they play is? It's the first twenty seconds or so, and my brain keeps trying to say Pagemaster, but I'm sure it isn't. It sounds like something James Newton Howard wrote, and I just can't think of what it is!
Very easily; go look on IMDb, or Walden Media, or the numerous articles posted around the net, or the tons of posts and blogs out there regarding this debacle. They took 3 months to shoot this movie and more than one person involved stated that the books were tossed aside for commercialism and marketability.
I'm so disappointed! This looks absolutely terrible. I've been a huge fan of the books and it looks like they butchered anything that was good about the series. BOYCOTT THIS FILM! Don't give Hollywood money for such crappy adaptations that are obviously just to make a buck. :(
Quit griping! Do you know how rare it is for a movie to be like the book?! It's been like that from the start of Hollywood! Ever heard of The Wizard of Oz? You should be happy that the movie is hitting the main screen. Now, it has a chance to introduce people to the books! Plus, Christopher Eccleston's in it!
Actually, the actors and screenwriter themselves admitted that the movie was done more for money than for artistry. It is true that movie adaptations often diverge from the book, but they seldom diverge this much. Apparently the joke on set was that the movie differed from the book in 3 respects: Will's age, Will's nationality, and everything else. They freely admit to gutting the essence of the books.
I am extremely saddened by their destruction of one of my favorite books of all time.
Tardisbunny:They could at least preserve the atmosphere.Like Sense and Sensibility and Pride and Prejudice. They're different from the books, but still feel like the real thing.
I read TDIR at school when I was 14 (I'm Czech, but they taught some subjects in English and reading English books was one of the "preparation subjects").Then I got addicted to Dr Who,and when I browsed through Chris Eccleston's profile on IMDb,I was excited to see he's in this film.Till I saw the trailers :(
Ok, the film IS much better than the trailer. They did a really good job on the camera, and on making impressions (that's meant to be praise).
So, apart from the obvious "American attitude" to the filmmaking, I have no objection against it :) Though I will try to lay my hands on the book to check how much the "American attitude" damaged it ;)
The book, unfortunately, although well written is very slow-moving. Also I like that in the movie Will was normal kid and not some old man in child's body. The tension in the movie is also higher.
You've got a point. But I still want to ask my former teachers to lend me the book again, just to check. To be honest, from all these trailers and the negative comments, I was very disappointed, and was relieved to see that the film is actually good, even if different :)
The people who bash the movie are really short-sighted. They fail to understand that the audience today is significantly different from the one in the 70-is and the movie has to be changed from the book to allow modern fans to enjoy it. Even if it is not a faithful adaptation it would make people to buy the books.
Well I believe that all movies based on a book should remain faithful to the book. After all, if you don't like the book don't make it into a movie. If you do like the book, don't change it , simple as that. People who read the book in the 70's liked it for what it was. As for the kids, they'll watch anything and enjoy it. So there was no reason for making the movie unfaithful
I don't think that modern audience would like faithful adaptation for DiR. Can you imagine Superman movie in which he isn't flying, but jumping and is fighting the Nazis, a la the original comic books?
Are you kidding? He buys a sign at the mall! That's a little more adaptation than is strictly necessary. And they should at least keep the characters similar to the ones in the book - Will is not supposed to be American. Merriman is not supposed to be a short fat guy.
One of the other trailers posted by GSonlyone w/Will on the bus and at the mall is the one shown before HP; it more clearly reveals how much they tried to Americanize this very British story and worked to divorce it from the book source. Read articles posted to the net and you will see that they clearly state that this was for marketabilty reasons and not artistic ones.
Americans have nothing to do with it. I'm an American, I re-read the books to get ready for the movie, and like everyone else on the planet, it looks like I'm going to be disappointed.
come on guys lets give this a chance. these are the IT movies now. they might be immitating harry potter and the like but surely, this movie will share some distinctive qualities. and duchessaliana is right, Walden Media is trustworthy...
From all of the articles about the production that I have read, the production team wholesale and gleefully tossed out just about all of the original plot, including all of that "pagan and pre-christian Arthurian" stuff -- from their own words.
Oh hai there, everything that's wrong with the movie industry. Why are you so full of corporate idiots who wouldn't know a good story if it bit them on the ass?
I just found out that they were making this into a movie a few days ago. I was so excited! Now, after seeing the trailer, I think I'll have to pass on seeing this one. It looks like they've taken a great series and tried to turn it into a bad attempt to capitalize on the popularity of the HP series.
Utter dreck. Rape of an amazing book. Derivative trailer for a derivative movie that is a re-write, not an adaption, of a moving and subtle novel. Uh, "Pseudo-Will," could you look for the signs that will direct you to the actual book plot?
You know, I think it's quite an interesting choice the movie makers have made...you know, by apparently not reading the book. I think I'd rather believe that than swallow that this little 'golly gee wiz!' twit is what they envisioned when they read Williams character description, "...old beyond his years." And oh by the way, they weren't warriors and it wasn't an action series. Oh well, they got the title right, so they looked at the book cover at least.
Well... they have to try to make adventure films as close as possible to all other action movies, because everyone knows that the consumer doesn't like novelties or artistic integrity, and can't identify with someone who doesn't precisely share their own lifestyle. Oh... wait, it's the marketing people who don't like original thought. A shame they control the purse strings.
I don't know, but the actors have definitely not read the book... From an interview with Ian McShane (about his character):
"I don't think they've been very faithful to the book. I don't know how many of you've read the book. I know they sold a few copies, but I couldn't read it very well. It's really dense. It's from the 70s, you know? This guy is a shooter. He's the mentor to the boy, Will Stanton."
Wow, this movie isn't actually that bad. Why is everyone "about to cry"? Man, you people should stop trashing the movie, no one needs to see your pathetic insults.

Are you kidding? He buys a sign at the mall! That's a little more adaptation than is strictly necessary. And they should at least keep the characters similar to the ones in the book - Will is not supposed to be American. Merriman is not supposed to be a short fat guy.
Did the people who made the movie READ the books?

amen. the series was too good to have been so butchered, like ella enchanted, hannibal...

lol. you never know these days! the guy who directed the 3rd harry potter didnt read even read the book!
JustiMT91 4 years ago
Yeah, but his movie actually resembles the story and is true to the characters, unlike this steaming turd.

yeah, i guess hp3 wasn`t that bad. i never actually read these books, but i want to.

Movies are usually better than trailers. Don't trust trailers. :)
Frodofreak321 4 years ago
Not always. Sometimes the trailer shows an exciting movie and then, the movie itself is a letdown.
DarthSparhawk 4 years ago
One of the other trailers posted by GSonlyone w/Will on the bus and at the mall is the one shown before HP; it more clearly reveals how much they tried to Americanize this very British story and worked to divorce it from the book source. Read articles posted to the net and you will see that they clearly state that this was for marketabilty reasons and not artistic ones.

Americans have nothing to do with it. I'm an American, I re-read the books to get ready for the movie, and like everyone else on the planet, it looks like I'm going to be disappointed.
So there.

come on guys lets give this a chance. these are the IT movies now. they might be immitating harry potter and the like but surely, this movie will share some distinctive qualities. and duchessaliana is right, Walden Media is trustworthy...

From all of the articles about the production that I have read, the production team wholesale and gleefully tossed out just about all of the original plot, including all of that "pagan and pre-christian Arthurian" stuff -- from their own words.
pbarnes26 4 years ago
Oh hai there, everything that's wrong with the movie industry. Why are you so full of corporate idiots who wouldn't know a good story if it bit them on the ass?
itsfunwhenitsfun 4 years ago
I just found out that they were making this into a movie a few days ago. I was so excited! Now, after seeing the trailer, I think I'll have to pass on seeing this one. It looks like they've taken a great series and tried to turn it into a bad attempt to capitalize on the popularity of the HP series.

A depressing mess. It really hurts. PLEASE READ THE BOOKS instead!!!

I trust Walden Media...hopefully this won't be their downfall. They did Narnia, Because of Winn-Dixie, and Bridge to Terabithia well.
DuchessAliana 4 years ago
ok. i'm excited. however it's kind of disappointing that the novel and the movie are quite different from each other.
alekaine 4 years ago
Oh dear. I've loved the book for as long as I can remember. How could they do this to it??
theviolingirl 4 years ago
Utter dreck. Rape of an amazing book. Derivative trailer for a derivative movie that is a re-write, not an adaption, of a moving and subtle novel. Uh, "Pseudo-Will," could you look for the signs that will direct you to the actual book plot?
pbarnes26 4 years ago
You know, I think it's quite an interesting choice the movie makers have made...you know, by apparently not reading the book. I think I'd rather believe that than swallow that this little 'golly gee wiz!' twit is what they envisioned when they read Williams character description, "...old beyond his years." And oh by the way, they weren't warriors and it wasn't an action series. Oh well, they got the title right, so they looked at the book cover at least.
t1mpani 4 years ago
Well... they have to try to make adventure films as close as possible to all other action movies, because everyone knows that the consumer doesn't like novelties or artistic integrity, and can't identify with someone who doesn't precisely share their own lifestyle. Oh... wait, it's the marketing people who don't like original thought.

Oh yeah, it sold a few copies all right...blah.
chicagocanine 4 years ago 2
"..couldn't read it very well:" What is discouraging is that, not only the boy actor, but the script writers are so illiterate and ignorant.

i like this trailer more than the theatrical version. This one leaves you wanting more! I can't wait!
