I love how this scene pays tribute to the "general" technique of displaying romance in bollywood musicals/films, i.e. the characters' poetic exchange backed by a melancholic song, the alternative shots of close-up/pan-outwards/jump-cut, and the palatial setting. And I find it even more interesting that such an execution in film can only appeal to Western audience when the characters are both white and speaking in English, heh.
I love this film, but most of its audience have never even ALLOWED themselves to watch authentic Bollywood films simply for the fact that they're foreign and not in English. Ethnocentric audience are being catered to by Tarsem Singh's ability to convey authentic "Indian romance" into "western/white" conventions. Tip to the Western audience who loved this film: at least TRY to expose yourself to Indian films to see the authenticity of such scenes as this.
Does anyone notice how the singer doesn't sing the second "you" in the first clause? She sings, "You think took me captive," and doesn't say "you." I just noticed that. Crazy!!! I love this part even more now, lol.
But nevertheless this scene is brilliant... I love all of the actors, the costumes, the music, the places, the story... A perfect mix. Favorite movie.
And I'm a little bit wondering why she smiles at 0:05?
Does anyone know how to get hold of the score of this film? I know that Beethoven 7th Symphony has been used for the intro and the ending, but the rest of the stunning music...? please anyone?
@Fancybowties I think its just not out there.. unfortunately.. I'l keep looking and I'll let you know if I find it! ;) Maybe if many people ask about it they will make a cd...
gosh i love this movie i wish it were in novel form that would be great.. to carry around an awesome movie and read it anytime. ive been trying to find that song its self anyone know if thats possible?

Hmmm, I don't hear it. Lol, I wouldn't be surprised if Tarsem Singh did that on purpose as some sort of subliminal joke.
