Because some of the architecture is so similar. Some movies (that took place in NYC) were filmed in London (avoiding specific signs and all). NY has some of the London look and London tries to bring in some of the business NY too. Also they are big cities with lots of people and cultures and the vibe about them is full of energy and "so urban" :D Corny but true.
