@AgilityFox I'm guessing that Zak couldn't keep up with the grooming, Venus's fur probably often becomes dirty and tangled. He has several long-haired dogs, after all - that's a lot of brushing to keep up with!
@MsZoraZ I understand it's a lot of work, I have 3 long-haired dogs myself - the problem is after shaving, the undercoat grows longer, and the dog gets even dirtier and more tangled, wich is why it's not a good idea.

Not in a way that seems agressive or mean but it's unsettling for the other trail users and can't be fun for him either. Any thoughts? Thanks ~Michael
Personally, I wouldn't ever shave my Border Collie. In the summer I go out of my way to make sure there is always a river or lake involved in our walks/hikes. BC's just look funny shaved (Unless they're the smooth coat variety, then it's natural.) I've also bought a kiddie pool for my pooch to cool down in at home. :]
It's weird that you're makin your BC all prettied up cuz they were meant to get down and dirty thats just what they were bred for. Not some chihuahua dog you can paint their nails and put bows in their hair. :S

wow! tha portrait looked amazing!! but I really disliked Venus' hair cut and nails... she looked like... corny and horrible nails... I agree with @CanadianAnimalLuver she's a dog that plays frisbee, not a dog that performs in cannes.... :( I think she didn't like her ties...
@CanadianAnimalLuver i totally agree :/.. i was looking at older pictures of Venus when she was with Chris and the gang and she has gained a bit of weight Zak.. Not being mean but there are charts at my vets that show what an ideal weight for a dog looks like, especially for an active dog too. And gotta agree again with the shaving.. we have someone in our neighbourhood who has a Samoyed and she shaves it and she complains that her dog keeps getting heat strokes and sunburns!
The portrait is fantastic! However, I don't agree at all with shaving a BC. Maybe their belly if they show signs of not doing well in the heat, but never their full body. I guess what confuses me is why you shave Venus and not the boys. I mean, Alpha has a HUGE coat.
I agree with the short hair and its comfortable in the warmer months. My pup is just two and a hair cut looks like he's just a baby. Though I love the face hair coming off he looks scruffy with out a good trim.
@JennyTheSpazz Hair cuts are not more comfortable on double coated breeds. Their guard hairs protect them from the sun. It can actually be quite dangerous.

I'm very dissapointed, because shaving a Border Collie makes absolutely no sense,.
First, as someone already mentionned, a dog's fur protects it from heat and cold as well.
Second, now her undercoat is just going to grow longer, and the guard hairs will no longer serve their protective waterproofing purpose.
And...now we can see she's gotten fat...
