From what I believe, Acorah has a gift of sorts. I believe he did, however, play things up on Most Haunted to make sure they got a good show -- which is a shame. I also heard they by as early as Series 4, Yvette n co were jealous of his ever growing popularity and had a falling out but kept him on for the fans. By season 6 they need a scapegoat to get him off the show, and thats when the Kreed Kafer setup took place.

I was recently at a Derek Acorah seance and he started going on about a suicide victim who vaguely resembled someone I knew. Nobody else put their hand up, so I went along with it and after Derek gave some vague details I asked if I could speak with the spirit through him. He said yes, so I asked about a specific interest that the "spirit" had in life, and Derek was completely unable to say what it was, demonstrating that he had no actual knowledge of the person he was claiming to talk to.
Brilliant work! Really, everyone needs to be doing this sort of thing more. Grab a friend and a video camera and work out a plan like this to expose the next psychic that comes to your town.

i heard that yvete karl and the most haunted team set derek up with a fake name that was written down on a piece of paper and gave it to derek to find out who the deceased person was, to prove that derek was in fact a fake and thats why he was sacked from the programme, the persons name that was written down did not exist..
