For someone from the US, all I can say that this is a nice sign-off. I liked the Canadian National Anthem with all the sights of the great White North. I also like the Sky Dome opening and the steam train tranforming into the modern Canadian National locomotive. Well done.
I always felt that too. I think it stems back to pre-Internet days when all of the TV stations signed off for the evening and it was like the connection to the outside world was cut off.
Several years ago when CBC Toronto signed off for the day there were used to have that blue CBC Ontario Banner with static sounding like the TV singnal is out I like the replacment with that CBC Television banner along with a nice calming and relaxing music when CBWT goes off the air.
I used to sometimes want to stay up late to watch these sign-offs. I don't know why. By the way, no, I'm not in Winnipeg.
The red logo and CBCtelevision text screen lasted a lot longer for me. And then it would go into inverse colors with a blonde-brown shaded background over black, before going into the color bars.
Before long, their French counterpart, Radio-Canada, will start airing 24/7 themselves! And if CBC retrains the NHL, they'll bid for French rights for their French network!
@RetroWinnipeg I saw signoffs for CKWS Kingston, ON and CHEX Peterborough, ON (both affiliates of the CBC) on YouTube, while the CBC owned & operated stations are now 24/7 as of 10/9/06. Do you think 'WS and CHEX will go 24/7 in the near future? And what about the digital transition in Canada? Will Canadian stations play O Canada when the switch to DTV happens?
Should be noted that CBWT is an O&O of the CBC, not an affiliate, reason why they're using this sign-on like all the other stations CBC operates. Too bad the station in Windsor though doesn't have a nice little station info bit before the anthem like this clip does (though since they only serve pretty much three southermost counties in Ontario, they don't have much to go on).
Any vids of the test card with the random DTMF tones

The CBC station in NB (CBAT) always ran this without a voiceover. Never figured out why.

As on here, CBWT's tone heard with the bars is 396 Hz.

Towards the end of the anthem there is an image of someone scraping ice off a windshield. HA! ; )

It's such an odd feeling to watch them becuase I always get an eerie calm and nowadays the most stations run all night.

On October 9, 2006, CBC Television will go 24/7! No more of these sign-offs.

I'm going to miss seeing these sign-offs. It'd be nice if CBC could continue playing the station IDs and "O, Canada" at midnight or something.
mwmnp25 5 years ago 4
Yeah, that would be nice if CBC could continue playing the national anthem and the "Everyday" promo at sign-on and sign-off, huh?
tvwhiz 5 years ago
@mwmnp25 Me too. Doubt we'll see it again though.

@mwmnp25 I used to watch those sign offs when I was a kid in Winnipeg.

@mwmnp25 well, only the french version of CBC still signs off at midnight or something like that.
geekgirltv2011 4 months ago
@mwmnp25 If CBC's TV disvision dissolves, What will the CBC choose? CTV? A? or a Brazilian network?

It goes off the air each night, except for the Olympics, when CBC, sometimes, airs overnight LIVE coverage. Something you'd never see on NBC.

What made the CBC great when it came to the Olympic coverage.
