Can someone please explain Y2K to me a bit better? I read the article on wikipedia and it really didn't make much sense to me. How can a change of date affect an entire system.. apparently it can display 19100 or 1900 instead of 2000, big deal. I just don't get it
numbers didnt add up right... long story short... when it went from 1999- 2000 people thought the computers would all fry up and everything would be lost..
this happen to zunes a few years back where when the year changed they all stopped working
The few closest things that were like Y2K were the sattelite disruption of the 1990s and the Canada power outage of the 2000s. Around 1995, satellite communication went down. Cell phones, pagers, and more were unable to connect and communicate. Shortly later, communications were returned. In the 2000s, a power outage in Canada disrupted power throughout the northeast of North America. People were without power, and this lasted for about a week or more. No one freaked out, but they could have.
The worst case scenarios back then: Biological warfare experiments are accidentally released, hackers find glitches in computer system to obtain information, and computer system's built on pre-programmed timing schedules fuck up. As historians can tell you, the stock market crashed in the 1980s because of electronic transfers via computer technology. I'm sure people have timed and set computers to control the world's market as of today. The invisible hand is not so invisble anymore.
The big question is which technology wasn't prepared for Y2K? Was it old, government supercomputers and/or databases? If so, how did such info leak to the media for them to discuss government technology? If it were true about government computers not being prepared, then someone must of replaced or updated the computers. Y2K was more of an evaluation of technology and ambitions until 2000. Yet people act like emos instead of ambitious, space-race scientists of the 1960s and 1970s.
Im sorry, this film was so cheesy. even for 1999. I Mean come on, get some people who can act. The people in the crowd acted better than the main actors. And The End??? Why the crap would he have not shot the rest of the people? because Neal didnt believe him? Come on, the reason he even had a gun in the first place was because people wanted in because they knew he had food. I mean maybe he shot neal because he caused them to do so but dang. That was stupid.
