The young woman in this video is very skilled, and her control with the strike to the neck was apparent. However, the man has an incredible presence. He embodies Fudoshin.
I enjoyed this feature. Most of the tanto waza I have trained in are tanto dori (knife defence), so it was very illuminating to watch this style of tantojutsu. No matter what your martial background, there is so much to be gained from watching experienced practitioners of respectable styles. Ogawa Ryu is brilliant - thank you for posting :-D
Yoroi = Armor translation meaning knife techniques against those in armor, an old old form of martial arts, death art even, meant for battle field use only. Excellent video.
These techniques are useful if you are ever in a situation where you may have to use a weapon against him and he is trying to disarm you and use that weapon against you. Excellent strategy in technique.
Please forgive me I meant no offense. I enjoy watching this video, because the techniques are easy to adapt. I use to practice Aikido still find the methods practical.
very nice waza. tell me has ogawa ryu incorporated ninjutsu in its training? looks similar to alot of x-can aikijutsu? well however it is very nice and effective koryu ol skool waza. keep up the good videos. oh yeah is there a ogawa ryu dojo in the united states?
If someone was trying to kill you with a knife why would you let go of the wrist holding the the knife? The Uke just lets go of her wrist when she begins a Waza only in a Dojo would most of these work not in real life.
I don't know what your looking at robfidl, but it looks to me like she is escaping the hold, he's not just letting go. If you look at the name of the video it is "heiho" which means strategy.
GREAT!! A bit of reality. The first time that I have seen Aikido used as an attack. I love it. And a female had to do it. That is even better. Give me MORE!!!!
This is very important to learn for those times i am kneeling in front of someone and they dishonor me.

Here is another version of Japan's tanto jitsu knife fighting used by women. This is classic training not as flowing as Kali.

very effective kata . are there any defensive kata?

this is why tantos are good weapons. there is a lot of art in the forms and they can be concealed to go almost anywhere.

The wasa was refreshing. The movements have a koryu signature. The display in interesting. Something to think about. My complements.

This is not Aikido, it's Aiki-Jujutsu. When Ueshiba first started Aikido, it was in reality AJ, that's the roots of Aikido.

The Tanto is a formidable close quarters blade. Nice demo!!

This NOT aïkido... It's a Koryu...

Interestingly though if my Aikido instructor demonstrated this and told us to get on with it I don't think we'd feel it was that out of place.

Where have you seen it's aïkido? It's absolutly not aiki! Wearing a hakama is not only for aikido...

Hm. The ancient art of stabbing an unarmed man.. (Kidding!) Actually, excellent stuff--very direct, no nonsense!
Braindazzled 5 years ago
in old times they had a sword on the side
in function of the space it s better to attack with a short weapon

Some times it's necessary to stab an unarmed person. LOL
