Yes if you have electronic know how. because back light is simple LED.

and this lcd is standard 16x2 character lcd found very cheap on any market.

all iobridge has done is to add a micro to make it serial nothing fancy about that.

There is a way to change the contrast mechanically, but the back-light is controlled via Serial lines.
