  • Your NOT getting 40 watts out of this radio with a stock final. You have what I like to call a (happy meter) get a real meter and try it again.

  • check out the reviews on that meter at eham.

  • I guess its just a nice tuning up. One of the ferrite slugs seems like its been moved all the way out. Also i could be increasing voltage in actual parts of the circuit and not the entire radio as mentioned.

  • I didn't think the Radio Shack 21-534 power meter was a Peak Reading Meter.I could be wrong though.

  • @guitarsandwomen It is. There is a PEP and an AVG setting. The switch is all the way on the right side of the meter.

  • ILLEEEEEEEGAL

  • @OchrismongrelO EXAAAAAAACTLY

  • do u need to be testing for power while on a dummy load? i tested mine with antenna hooked up. its had a super mod put in it........and i set the switch on 200 and it only reads about 25 peak. damn maybe i got fucked! he said it was doing 35!

  • @AK47cowboy Try it on a dummy load although I doubt you will see that much of a difference.

  • 29ltd

  • just a quick question, out of curiosity - if you never had intention of '...revealing the secret...' why the fuck did you post it anyway? where i come from, bragging brats like you get their ass kicked for not sharing, fuckin' loser!

  • @Executioner1984 Spend a little time experimenting on radios and eventually you will figure it out. It's not rocket science, but from the looks of it, there are no rocket scientists where you are from.

  • that is a good meter just look at ehams review of it. I bet he's got a small amp in line. He doesn't show where the coax goes.

  • @orange70383 adding an amp and down tuning it to show 5 watts dead-key and 40 watts swing would be a little too much trouble for me. Is there even an amp that small?

  • Junior !!!

fist try the radio on ifr-1200s or 1600s radiocomm

test set ! SUPRISE ! and for your R Scrap meter

plug on what ? domy load ? antenna ? and the

tone on your mike !!! very junior !!!

  • @jerrepotable domy load? Mike tone? Are you retarded? The mike is stock. The meter is great, just check ehams reviews.get a clue.

  • What would you charge me to fix my Cobra 29LTD With the mod kit you have done? Also, I like the lights, can you do those too? How much?

  • and how does it sound on the other end? Quality over quantity I say, because once the box goes it dosent matter what is done to the radio.

  • how did you do it to put out that much power thats awsome i have a 29 nw with sound tracker and im looking at doinging someething that will make me louder and more powerfull

  • No two radios will do the same power with the same modifications. Experiment.

  • hi, im new into the cb world, what purpose does this mod serve for you and your cb exably??

  • higher dead key and more modulation. In simple terms, your signal will be stronger and louder on the other end

  • This reading is on PEP, peak envelope power. Its very different from AVG, or average power. AVG would be closer to bird watts, which is use to read a dead key anyway. I have a cobra 29 that has been peaked. Nothing special. No crazy mods to it. it hits 40 PEP watts no problem, but it only does about 19 -20 avg. Don't have a bird to get a true bird reading. Usually its pretty close. At the radio shop on a very accurate meter it was swinging to just under 40 watts pep. so thats about right

  • what kind of radio? i know a few radios that do 10 watts dk

  • Mine is a Cobra 29 Chrome

  • if it's reading 10 watts only on the 200 watt setting and you haven't modified the radio then the meter may be out of tune.

  • My Radio Shack meter seems to read high on the 200 watt setting. It always says that I have 10 watt dead key.

  • Keep running this radio at that power level and then see how quickly the final burns out. Smoke is coming!

  • 9 months and still going strong. even if it burned out tomorrow i'd have my moneys worth @ $5 but thanks for the good wishes!

  • i did a uniden pc76 aprox 9 yrs ago was a brandnew virgin radio out of the box a relative purchased . i did the peak n tune on it and limiter clip on it . also put a lil high/low power mod in it . with a stock final and driver in it . it would dk on low at 1.5 watts swang upto 40 watts . on high it dk'd 10 watts and swang to 40 watts and i used the original stock mic on it. radio was just to loud when an amplified mic was used

  • Whats it DK, about 10?

  • 6 watts AVG on a dummy load.

  • I actually can believe that it does 40 watts. Mine DK's 5 and swings to about 25. Is your limiter clipped or still intact?

  • limiter is intact, modulation is at about 100%

  • It sounds good to me, if that's talkback I here, anyway, good job on the wattage. Some people are idiots, but, who cares..

  • Please get rid of that POS Rat Shack Junk meter and get something actually worth something.

Radio Shack meters are nothing but JUNK!

Diamond or Dosy is the only way to go.

  • Actually, Dosy meters aren't that accurate and tend to read way too high, so why don't YOU get rid of your POS meter XD RS meters are actually pretty accurate when compared to a Bird, even in PEP they are pretty close to a Bird with a PEP conversion. Do your homework before u go posting nonsense or simply keep your opinions to yourself please :)

  • Dosy meters are good, but they tend to give most people higher readings on the swing.

The only radios that I ever tested with a Dosy were the Galaxy Saturns and they really had good swings. My Saturn base swung to 50, but it still wasn't as good a deal as your 40 watts.

  • this is not unlikely... these radios will do 40w all day long if tuned properly... (stock final) the late 16NJ does them all the time... and readings are on a BIRD, not some cheap meter that is exagerating watts. so his radios would probably read higher on a meter like this one. nice job panosalitis! 1421-CT said that!

  • Not on stock voltage will you see 40 watts from a stock final Cobra or Uniden!

  • that depends what you consider stock voltage. I'm running this radio at 13.8 volts which is what most "12v" supplies do. I've heard of people juicing their radios with 15 volts but I wouldn't trust that. My point is, this isn't a 'voltage' magic trick. I just finished a 25 but haven't checked it yet. As soon as i test it @ 14.3v which is what my cars voltage is, i'll post up that video too.

  • If he did it, I'm willing to bet, it's not talking now! I run a DX 99V, with a FatBoy amp. When I'm in a town at night, I'll switch to SSB, and Whistle in the mic. It set's off Alarms in Shopping Centers! LOL. :=) ..

  • That's a bet you would lose my friend. Not only is this radio still talking but I get accused of using much more expensive equipment. In reality i use a cheapo 29 and an old realistic desktop mic. Its not about how much you paid for your equipment or what brand it is, it's all about fine tuning. The sooner you realize that, the more beer money you will have. Don't believe the hype, brother.

  • As much as I hate CB radio because of the antenna size requirements, the bad characteristics of the frequency, and the use of AM modulation, mods like this really show why it holds on. If you're willing to meddle you'll get the candy.

  • .......or you can have really high SWR....a fucked with meter......or an amp on off to the side of view. You may be able to pass that shit on to other with out a clue but your going to have to better than that to put one over on me!

  • hey heavyweight. coils arent spread at all actually. not one little bit. SWR is about 1.3 at the highest. <1.1 at the lowest. deadkey is at about 5-6 watts. ive tried this with a few meters and get more or less the same reading. The radio runs thru a LPF before it gets to the meter and even then i dont believe those are clean watts. what matters is it sounds loud and clean and it gets me out real far. btw, this isnt your 'run of the mill' cobra 29 mod that you see on the internet.. and no amp.

  • There is not a snow balls chance in hell that you well see 40 watts of real power out of a cobra 29 unless you do a mosfet final upgrade! Can you fool a meter into showing you that much power? sure you can! All you have to do is spread those little copper coils in the back of the radio as far as you can and then run a 1/2 watt key and then it will splatter all over the place and fool a peak meter into showing you all kinds of power!

  • if i remember right i hav had one uniden 78 that did swing like that on a stock final but i dont remember getting a 29 to get there unless maybe a old phillipino model. i do have a converted 29 se chrome that i modified with the elk 2030 final and it puts out a little over 45 watts but not stock anymore lol.

  • I've got a Taiwanese 29 with a stock final (C2029/1) that does the same wattage.

  • Cool, I must be missing one key element. I understand the essance of peak and tune re: modulation dioed clip adjust l14 l13 l12 to pep but the current 29 i have even installed a 220uf cap and 150 ohm resistor aka swing kit at even though that doubles the out of box pep power from 10 to 20 watts without upgrading the final what else is there?

  • cool I wish they would all do that after a little tune up.

  • I don't see a reason they shouldn't
