  • Flutter for sure and yes get a blow off valve because your pushing pressure the wrong way

  • i dont think its a porblem unless you running more than 10psi of boost

  • fluttering isn't dangerous for the impeller, surge is dangerous and the impeller can be destroyed.

The same thing, but in very different conditions.

Closing the butterfly valve cuts the power to the compressor (coming from the turbine), and creates a pressure wave that exits from the compressor side (rotating at not very high speed).

Surge happens when the compresor arrives to the maximum airflow for a certain speed, it is similar to cavitation.

  • My passat 1.8t does the same sound this happen when o broke my transmission now I have that sound !!!!!

  • This is flutter... and flutter is not compressor surge. Compressor surge is when your spring is too tight on a bov. Your BOV is the stock bypass valve it flutters because you aren't building enough boost to hold the valve open for a long enough period of time to make the traditional steady blow-off. If it was compressor surge it would be happening at full boost and you dont get comp surge unless your bov screw is too tight. ++++DONT POST SHIT UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT++++

  • goddammmmm today this shit start to my car, passat 1.8t is the same sound, sounds goodddd but is a fuck up to my turbo, can it be the dv?

  • Have you checked that the N249 valve that good? Symptoms seem to not work N249

  • Buy a synapse bov... I think it's just the noise from the bov fluttering like most diaphragm bovs do. When you think about it, this in turn would actually cause a small amount of surge. It's no where near as bad as "on boost" surge though.

  • Try tightning up your bov.

  • its 100% surge

  • can someone tell me the diffrence between surge and flutter?

  • @454sskilla nothing, flutter is just another word for compressor surge.

  • the original bosch bov is broken! buy a new one!

  • no dude its a surge

  • Surge!

  • flutter is compressor surge

  • my jetta did the same it has the same engine

and i put a dov and it fixed the problem

and even better that before i got more throtle

    responce

  • But this is definetly surge, its pretty bad too. I dont think i have heard surge like that with barely any boost.

  • A bov will not hurt your 1.8t! All it will do is throw a code because the car sees a decrease in air flow because the boost isnt being circulated back to the intake its being released into the atmosphere. Its not a big deal but a MIL is annoying.

  • it will cause you to run rich. Over time this can cause problems

  • also dont put a BOV on a 1.8T

it'll mess up ur car BADLY. stick with the diverter valves.

  • this is happening to my a4 now, i just got a intake installed and ever since it been making this sound. Ive got a stock Diviter Valve, do i need to upgrade this to get rid of the surge??

  • get a new diverter valve. i recommend the forge 007 DV for the 1.8T engines. I got an Audi TT 1.8T w/ that DV and it works great.

(btw, the stock bosch DV in this passat is broken and needs to be replaced)

  • its surging

get a bov and will fix the problem

but some bov's might not work so just speak with your mechanic

i put a turbosmart onto a 1995 wrx sti and the bov did not open because of the lack of power and where it was fitted.

  • Das Steuergerät hat sich aufgehängt, Bei VW neu hochladen lassen... Dann läuft er wieder!!!

  • I had the same thing happen to mine! Was an easy fix luckly!

  • hey wuz up i just figured i would let u know that is a turbo surge u cant prevent it just by getting a new bov it may seem quitter but i can listen closely thats a surge carefull u may blow ur rings if the turbo locks ive been working with turbos for the past 4 years ur welcome

  • ya I fixed the problem but I ran it with surge so long that the turbo blew a couple days ago it was pretty bad haha but I got a brand new turbo and everything is great! but thanks for the insite

  • @zastava1 how much did that run you? for the new turbo+install

  • @XdogXdx91 I have the same Problem . Is it the blow - off or Turbo ?? What can i do ?? Thank's...

  • get a new bov

  • dont need one it was just the vacuum hose that pulls the bov open it fell off

  • too bad this is bad for the turbo...it sounds so cool.

  • that shti happened with my 07 jetta its a surge

  • no prob

  • it sounds like your diverter valve(blow off valv) isnt opening.check the vacuum line that goes to the valve.its probably unplugged.ig not then the diaphram is leeking not allowing vacuum to pull it open.

  • there is a vacuum line that got riped off right before it started doing this, it goes from the intake manifold to some tubing after the turbo ill put it back on and see if that works.... thanks for the help!!!

  • brother try a dose pipe?

  • thanksss alot bro thats what it was stupid vacuum line lol again man thanks :)

  • no problem, good thing you caught it though comp surge could of blown out your turbo since the bov isnt opening it could of bentor broken the fins on your turbo which would suck
