@drumminman49 oh ok. it looked like a young Tim G. seems like he studied jazz bass at Miami in the early 80s late 70s. great band. Thanks ! pleasure to listen to you guys.
Dick Cully has that effortlessness few drummers have. They just glide through like silk when he moves his hand around his drums. He has proper technique. He learned drumming the right way. You can here Dave weckl in his instructional video a natural evolution, that he learned to play relax in which the result is a bigger sound. When you learn this technique, the sticks come alive.helping you out play beautifully.
I said that when Buddy Rich died on April 2, 1987 we would never see anyone ever again of his kind. I take back those words. Dick Cully is Buddy Rich reincarnated! No better compliment than that. Thank you!
Mr. Brown, that alto player told me your vids are on the web. I played in this group on bari and tenor couple of times back when I was Floridididian. What a great band this was to play in!!!! I have a memory of "Time Check" that gave me wind burns on my fingers.
Dick: I am flabbergasted, thanks ever so much, I am impressed and deeply grateful. Your band is fantastic. I've heard so many renditions of my music that I was disappointed in. I wish to profusely thank you for the many you-tube numbers that you have sent to me. They were fun listening to, but by far the best were from your band. I can't thank you enough.
All I can say is that DC is the greatest! This man has a true gift...He has perfect timing and he knows how to drive a band without getting in the way...Like Krupa, Rich and Bellson; DC ranks up there with the best of them as he has it all.
my man ,Dick Cully...great band, superb drumming, dynamic soloists and tutti sections and a super hip Nestico chart.....what more can a big band afficianado ask for???
Dick is certainly a talent deserving more accolades....and screw the Buddy Rich clone stigma, Kathy Rich!

Awesome. One of the tightest live recordings I've heard of a jazz ensemble on youtube. Great solos too!
