This song is so gorgeous. It reminds me of listening to Radiohead's Kid A. Namely, it reminds me of the track called "Treefingers" and it also reminds me a little bit of Pink Floyd's track "Us and Them" from Dark Side of the Moon. In particular the sparseness of the track is what harkens back to those songs I just mentioned. I love music that is sparse and thought provoking. It doesn't need to fill in the gaps for you, your imagination takes it where it wants to.
Along with "In Motion", "Intriguing Possibilities", "Complication With Optimistic Outcome", and the rendition of Edvard Grieg's "In the Hall of the Mountain King" - the best song off the soundtrack/compilation. But there really isn't a "best song" they're all great in their own respect.
this is by far the silliest junk I have ever heard I m so disappointed right now omffffin G I cant believe my ears Michael Trent WTF is that noise??!!! SSsooooooo Disappointed right now omg
I was such a hard core fan of nin, srsly for decades and now this?? after fragile I was stumped- sooo let down -what happened trent? what happened????
@jes166 fuck off. calling yourself a fan of nin by only listening to downward spiral doesnt make you a fan. listen to avenged sevenfold or some other scenester shit
after listening to the entire album its easy to see why it got a oscar nomination since its very original and fits the movie well however for me its too techno and electric and doesnt have any staying power! i prefer something more orchestrated and thats why i think john powell with how to train your dragon should win the oscar! even if he doesnt i just hope this doesnt i dont have anything against it i just think there are better soundtracks in the nominations list! thats opinion not fact!
@NIN8898 you're crazy bro...i know you ARE a NIN fan cause of your username...but have you even seen the film?
the songs were made for specific scenes...i mean sure, listening to this alone isnt AMAZING..but seeing it synced perfectly w/ each scene made it the best Score of the year easily (next to Daft Punk for Tron, but this was more poetic).
@Basketalbi im comparing it to his older music, i like more of the emotional and raw side of his music and since he is getting older he isnt putting too much of that into his music anymore, im not saying he is not a great musician anymore im stating that he has changed quite a bit instead of staying true to the music he used to play. everyone has a point in their career where they arent as great as they used to be.
@NIN8898 wtf man? im sick of people saying trent went downhill and isnt like he use to be. Im sorry but the guy is 46 and has a kid- let him explore making other types of music, the guy is a professional and he isnt gonna still act like hes 25 and smash guitars. lets move on here.
@nathanrussell88 i could care less if he smashed guitars. he has made a form of music that people have become asphyxiated to over the years. he left some of his fans left with nothing but his older music. no bands can do as great of a job as he did with his music. age dosent matter for what you do in life. he has a kid but he still does music. he still does what he loves. im saying hes not as good as he used to be since he changed his sound. hes changing with the times.
@NIN8898 - It's within the nature of the artist to evolve and develop and experiement with different material. Trent Reznor has never repeated himself musically; lyrically and subjectively perhaps - yes. But every album or release in his discography never sounded (or to a certain degree "felt") the same. It's individuals like Trent Reznor that keep music alive.
@JesusCristo2002 Obviously but, He's getting older like everyone else. That makes my point in earlier comments. There are diffrent types of people in this world. Ones that express there opinions and ones that follow others. Im saying something that i beleive is true and not telling anyone else to beleive any word that is coming out of my mouth. Everyone thinks what they want to think. His music is amazing and I love it but his music is not the same and hes not as popular. It hapens with everyone
@NIN8898 - I'm just simply expressing my love for the artist. People can perceive the man anyway they want to - but (in my humble opinion) he's one of the greatest - in contrast to how popular other "artists" are - it doesn't matter to me.
@JesusCristo2002 In my opinion there are not many talented artist today because the world has been taken over by mainstream. All it is is sterotyping people into making them sound like a god. I dont like when people idle others they dont have and relation with. I love Trent Reznor but, when music changes with the generation the other generations are left behind to live in the past with the music they used to have. Its a never ending cycle.
@NIN8898 - First off, to a certain degree artists can't help the success they attain - some artists "sell out", others mature and evolve, others "fade out". Secondly there's nothing wrong with loving something your passionate about. I love art - and I have an equal amount of respect and admiration for this particular artist - and the significant impact his work has had on my perception of music as a medium and an art form.
@JesusCristo2002 haha that didnt even answer what i just said XD but, You die out at some point. You have to fade away some time. How ever long it takes there is an end to it. I appreciate all forms of music and the work and dedication put into it but, you can tell when someone is not doing their best. Sometimes people get so caught up in what their doing there best becomes their worst or their least memorable work. In my opinion a good song is something you remeber. Not something that disapears
@NIN8898 - What matters is the legacy you leave behind - especially if you work within an art. When it comes to certain artists that have inspired me - such as musicians/musical acts like: Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails, The Rolling Stones, The Who etc. - sure they'll never always produce their "best" material - but their "weakest" material is better than what most "artists" will accomplish within a lifetime. Nothing "disappears" for me when it comes to these artists.
I'm not surprised at TR's work in movies. He dabbled in it way back in 94 with Natural Born Killers and did sound design for iD Software's Quake in 96. I mean the guy is a walking renaissance man when it comes to music. One moment he's blasting you with ear splitting anthems like Happiness In Slavery, gentle tunes like the quiet version of The day the world went away and now this. Awesome.
thanks I already got it, it's "magnetic" by trent reznor. but I would need another one. What's the song in the scene where is programming facemash.com, it'S in the beginning
@mhaze210 I could not agree more. A good score like this one is in a league all in its own. From the opening credits till the end I was on my toes anticipating what would happen next. Never have I felt so moved through the entire feature, and oh yes the movie was so good I'm not sure where to start.
NIN. HTDA. I just recieved "Broken" in the mail today, its an excellent EP and possesses the equivilant amount of vital importance to any of Reznor's albums.
I had no interest in seeing this film. Then heard David Fincher was directing, then I heard this and now I have to see it! This soundtrack is doing more to hype me than any of the trailers!

Meditative, soothing, comforting, relaxing - and yet simultaneously dark and disturbing - Trent Reznor at his most layered and dimensional. His best.

i saved hearing any of Trent's score until seeing the film, so i could feel the essence of it stronger..
and this film in the opening credits it made it possibly my favorirte opening sequence i have ever seen.
Gave such a dark vibe that a packed audience will be in complete silence at the awe of this track.
