Just in the interest of accuracy here, the synopsis mentions Michio Kaku being the author of string theory, but he's actually the co-author of string-field theory. Correct me if I'm wrong though. Great interview.

I think the idea that ours is a "symbiotic" relationship with the Earth is a little short sighted. Symbiosis would imply that the Earth as a life-sustaining planet and depends on us inherently, it doesn't. Continue down the path of excessive resource usage or not, Earth remains, regardless of our presence. We aren't fighting for the environment, but fighting for our place within it. It's more appropriate to say, "If we give her a shiatsu and feed her grapes, she wont remove us from existence".

When it comes to Mother Nature, it's a case of "if we scratch Her back, she'll scratch ours." It REALLY IS all about symbiosis. Otherwise, as Dr. Kaku said, it's a kind of suicide; albeit slow, but suicide nevertheless.

Earth is designed such that it can maintain certain ratio of energy to matter there by heat. When west awakes to sunlight energizes the east sleeps to cool and gain new order vice-versa. Much of the problems of the modern world, like increased natural catastrophes, instabilities of individual and collective mind and so on could be directly or indirectly be related our lack of knowledge of energy cycle or time cycle and its disruption.
