when the beetles lay eggs they will die eventually rite? so when all the beetles die i just have to remove the dead beetles and let the baby superworms grow in the dead beetles colony?
@Teddybearcop48 They are 2 totally different worms. Many people confuse them, even small pet stores seem to think they are the same thing, but they aren't. They both come from a different beetle.
man you need to do some House keeping.. Putting in a fresh beetle into a box full of dead beetles... Not good.. And also you have beetles running around in your meal worm babies boxes... sort it out man... youd probably treble your output if you was running a tighter ship....
Few quick questions. I can't seem to stop mold, is this harmful? It's been about a month now, the beetles are thriving and I witness them breeding and burrowing but still no sign of worms. How long does it take? Your help would be much appreciated! :)
@tomwaitsfan84 If you have mold it means there is too much moisture. You don't want that. It's most likely from the veggies. After a month you aren't going to see much, trust me. Take a handful of their bedding in your hand and look carefully, sometimes you'll see tiny babies moving around. It takes a lot of patience to see results. Especially if you aren't starting with very many.
@TheWaggaBloke Darkling beetles. But you don't start with the beetle, you start with the mealworm. The meaworm is the larvae stage then it turns to a pupae, then that turns into the beetle. The beetles then mate, they'll lay eggs and then they die off
how long does it take for the beetble to lay their eggs ive got about 4 beetles in a container and two more on the way but wondering how long it takes for them to lay eggs
@thelizardman3 np. superworms have a lot more steps to do than mealworms, and it isn't always easy. i have another video on my channel how to breed superworms, maybe if you watched that you see how much more work they are lol
@eliotchew thats normal for them to die, are you feeding them anything else besides oats? You need to feed them. such as romaine lettuce, potatoes, apples, etc. Its also where they get their water from.
@CamoChick69 Yeahh I Put Just Some Cheap Oats In I Bought From The Shop Today And Put A Potato Thats Cut Up Around The Tank/Box But Most Of Them Seem To Be Like As If They Have All Been Tazerd They Wont Move And Some Are Even Dead And When I Pick Them Up They Down Go Mad They Just Stay Still. Cheers For The Reply. Please Reply Back Again :)
@eliotchew It is a possibility that you bought unhealthy mealworms. I mean it is normal for some to die off, it just happens. Do you know the difference between the pupae and the mealworm? because the pupae will like wiggle when you touch it and they cant eat while they are in that form
@CamoChick69 They Were Fine At First Yeahh. But Ever Since No But Now They Look Ok Sooos A Good Sign And Yeahh. The Pupae Things Are Those White Small Spikey Things Which Eventually Hatch After About 2-4 Weeks After And The Beetles Lay Eggs. Also Do The Beetles Have Tpo Breed With The Other Or Just Lay Eggs Not To Sure On The Laying Eggs Things Thanks For The Replys
@WinnipegBeardieBubba No, I was breeding mealworms and supers because I had so many reptiles and its cheaper. I had moe than 25 reptiles at the time who ate mealies, I did end up also selling them to people as well because I was breeding so much
@WinnipegBeardieBubba superworms aren't easy to breed so i'd say quite a few, at least 100. just to get started. the hard part is turning them into pupae. the mealworms are so much easier to breed. good luck
usually every pet store has them, if you dont have a pet store who carries them the only other way would be ordering online or at a reptile expo if youve got one near you
yeah... i was thinking that, but i also heard that mealworm exoskeletons are tougher then superworms, so are harder on digestion, do you know if this is true or falso?
I honestly dont know how to sex them, and they should not be black.. that usually means they're dead. And are you talking about mealworms or superworms, because they are both coompletely different. They do die off once they have laid their eggs. And it all depends how many beetles and superworms you have. When I had my MEALWORM breeding colony i did not seperate because I had over 10,000. So it didnt matter if a few beetles ate a few mealworms. IF you have a very small colony, you can seperate
oh, i don't know... lol, i'm studying up on both, to see which is easier, right now i only have one scorpion, but planning on getting tarantula(s) soon, i couldn't stand the chirping of crickets and my parents won't let me breed roaches, i was thinking of breeding these for a staple diet of arachnids
oh, well mealworms are A LOT easier than superworms. Trust me lol. Ive had so much more success breeding mealworms. All you have to do basically leave mealworms alone, but with superworms theres more work involved and not to mention they take a lot longer to breed. But good luck anyway, I do suggest mealworms
so they just die after laying eggs? or i heard that females live up to 5 months laying 500 eggs over that time, do i NEED to seperate beetles from worms? or just make sure they have enough foods?
I'm going to start a small farm with my class tomorrow. I've never done this before and have been watching several videos. I'm really curious because in all of the clips that I've seen, you guys seem to be really rough with them. Is that normal? Spooning them out, flipping them in and out, etc... Will they be okay? Please let me know. Thanks!
Hi great Video. And the fact that u take the time to answer questions, and explain everything is awesome! I'm going to start breeding some within the next week. How many should i start with to maintain a pair of Leopard Geckos?
hi, i've been pretty successful at breeding the mealworms. However, I've been keeping my supermealworms for months and they have not morph a bit. Did you do any particular process to cause them to start morphing?
Btw, my supermealworms are all kept in bulk in plastic containers on oatmeal.
theres no such thing as "supermealworms" thats your problem right there. there are only mealworms and superworms. both are totally different from one another. and superworms take a lot more work to breed than mealworms do. they also take a lot longer
what do you think is the smallest reptile and cheapest reptile on the market? it has to live in a 10 gallon standard. do you know which one would be cheap, small, and able to live in a 10 gallon? answer as soon as you can!
no no, what I meant was that its so easy for them to breed when they are invading your house but it takes alot of attetion to get them breeding when you want them to breed, by the way, those little cups you put the pupa's in? where did you get them?
Hey there, im sorry I cant answer your question, I really dont know because the eggs are so small and when the babies come out they are very hard to see. So its hard to say when they hatch. It sometimes take quite a while to see any babies, so just be patient.
my questions is can you use nightcrawlers, meal worms etc.. thant you have bought in a vending machine as bait to start your own breeding or do you have to order them or collect them out side
well, i got mine from canadian tire, but you can get them from wal mart too. depending on where you get it, i dont know if your from canada or US, but in canada they are usually around $19.99- $29.99
just leave all of the beetles together, and once they start to die off, you know they have mated. just leave them, keep feeding them, and eventually you will see babies, it will take a little while though cuz you wont be able to see the babies for a while cuz they are too small.
hhmm.. well theres enough ventilation because ive been doing this for years now and have not had a problem. if there were holes in my containets theyd get out.. but there are no lids on them and they are doing fine. ive got about 500,000 now
you only refrigerate them for feeding purposes because is delays the time until they pupate. and they dont need to be fed when they are regfrigerate. they wont pupate unless they are warm
they look fat and bloated, they dont move, looks like they are dead. they are still a golden brown colour but in a few hours after that they'll shed and be bright white.
that means they are dead, but it happens, nothing you can do about it, of course not all of them will die. they are golden and brown, when they are going to pupate they curl up into a ball.
where do u get those containers that u put the super worms in and how long does it take for beetles to lay eggs after they breed and how long does it take for the eggs to hatch cause we have to start breeding for our leopard geckos due to the national shortage also
Due to the national shortage, We'll looking at doing this now and your video helped out alot. I just have a couple questions. One is there any easy way to separate the pupas? Or is by hand the only way.
Also, we go through about 3000 mealworms a week since we breed leopard geckos, how many containers do you think we'd need? And how many mealworms would be good to start our colony?
Im glad my video helped you. For starters, we use a wire mesh sifter to sort out the pupas, it is a lot easier to find them. The containers you see in my video, we have 2 of those which hold about 50,000 together, so you probably would only need a couple containers depending on how big they are. As for your colony try to start with 1000-5000. Keep these seperate from what you are feeding if possible. And just follow my steps on the vid. watch my other vid as well, and read the comments
i havnt had a problem with the beetles bothering the mealworms. But if you have removed the pupas from the mealworms you shouldnt have beetles in with the mealworms because the pupas turn into beetles. As long as you keep them fed they shouldnt be a problem
right now we aren't selling much of our mealworms/superworms, were selling more of our mice and rats that we breed, and we are actually making quite a bit a week just off our rats and mice. once we find some people to by large amounts of our superworms/mealworms then it'll be a big profit
Im very curious...Do you ever change the beddings or you just add on and on? what do you do with the deads worms and beatles do you let them eat their deads and poo poo?
usually once a month i empty the containers sift out the worms but dont throw out the bedding yet put it into another container becuz there is prolly eggs still in it and u may get a few hundred more worms out of it.
as for dead bodies take them out when u can but its not really gonna hurt them if you leave them in becuz they eat eachohter for moisture when u dont give them enough veggies for water anyway.
This has been flagged as spam show
when the beetles lay eggs they will die eventually rite? so when all the beetles die i just have to remove the dead beetles and let the baby superworms grow in the dead beetles colony?

how long does it take a pupae to turn into a beetle
crazysuicideblood 3 years ago
nope they dont move. if you poke them sometimes they will wiggle.
CamoChick69 3 years ago
tnxs but don't they move at least a toe? or a twitch? and do they have to get fat?
wkkimmy 3 years ago
how can you tell if the mealworm is turning into pupae?
wkkimmy 3 years ago
they look fat and bloated, they dont move, looks like they are dead. they are still a golden brown colour but in a few hours after that they'll shed and be bright white.
CamoChick69 3 years ago
dp the superworms turn black before pupa or does that mean that their dead?(Please Respond)
geedunk13 3 years ago
they turn geen
ReptyleRob 3 years ago
that means they are dead, but it happens, nothing you can do about it, of course not all of them will die. they are golden and brown, when they are going to pupate they curl up into a ball.
CamoChick69 3 years ago
That means they are dead. They will start smelling really bad and eventually rot. You want to throw those out.

where do u get those containers that u put the super worms in and how long does it take for beetles to lay eggs after they breed and how long does it take for the eggs to hatch cause we have to start breeding for our leopard geckos due to the national shortage also
ilovemyboaconstricto 3 years ago
We got our containers from Canadian Tire. it takes about 5-10 days for the beetles to lay eggs, and it takes 2 weeks for the eggs to hatch.
CamoChick69 3 years ago
o ok
ilovemyboaconstricto 3 years ago
Due to the national shortage, We'll looking at doing this now and your video helped out alot. I just have a couple questions. One is there any easy way to separate the pupas? Or is by hand the only way.
Also, we go through about 3000 mealworms a week since we breed leopard geckos, how many containers do you think we'd need? And how many mealworms would be good to start our colony?
trikcard 3 years ago
Im glad my video helped you. For starters, we use a wire mesh sifter to sort out the pupas, it is a lot easier to find them. The containers you see in my video, we have 2 of those which hold about 50,000 together, so you probably would only need a couple containers depending on how big they are. As for your colony try to start with 1000-5000. Keep these seperate from what you are feeding if possible. And just follow my steps on the vid. watch my other vid as well, and read the comments

does the darking beetles eat the newly hatched babies?
ihatepanda 3 years ago
so when the beetle lays teh eggs how do u get the eggs out?
ihatepanda 3 years ago
you leave them! you cant even see them to begin with and the beetles die off after laying eggs!
CamoChick69 3 years ago
you mention removing the pupa since the others would eat them but do the beetles mess with the mealworms to?
toxicmindx 3 years ago
i havnt had a problem with the beetles bothering the mealworms. But if you have removed the pupas from the mealworms you shouldnt have beetles in with the mealworms because the pupas turn into beetles. As long as you keep them fed they shouldnt be a problem
CamoChick69 3 years ago
oh ok thank you ^^
toxicmindx 3 years ago
what kind of profits are you making ?
guitarplayaDAVE 3 years ago
right now we aren't selling much of our mealworms/superworms, were selling more of our mice and rats that we breed, and we are actually making quite a bit a week just off our rats and mice. once we find some people to by large amounts of our superworms/mealworms then it'll be a big profit

Im very curious...Do you ever change the beddings or you just add on and on? what do you do with the deads worms and beatles do you let them eat their deads and poo poo?
scrambler008 3 years ago
usually once a month i empty the containers sift out the worms but dont throw out the bedding yet put it into another container becuz there is prolly eggs still in it and u may get a few hundred more worms out of it.
CamoChick69 3 years ago
(continued from my last post...)
as for dead bodies take them out when u can but its not really gonna hurt them if you leave them in becuz they eat eachohter for moisture when u dont give them enough veggies for water anyway.
CamoChick69 3 years ago
if they die after thay breed then wholays the eggs
