This fact At 9:08 is wrong... The word "Nigger" is also used during the episode when Fred returns home from his long break from the show. Grady was his replacement for several episodes. Fred says "Bim Bam Boom someone get this nigger out my room"
Hmm..I'm surprised that you left out the fact that Pat Morita was most notably Mr. Miyagi on Karate Kid. Also, I didn't see where Rollo is now. Did I miss it?
Redd Foxx was originally from Chicago, Illinois. He also attended DuSable High School and was classmates with my dad. He was raised by his mother and grandmother as his father left when he was really young.
Actually "nigger" was said three times throughout the show (that I can remember). The episode left out was when Fred was competing for the attention and affection of Donna with one of Donna's male patients.
The patient was demonstrating to Fred on how in much better physical shape he was than Fred. I think he started doing one-arm push ups, and Fred says, "That nigger is crazy!!"
DID YOU GUYS KNOW THAT GRADY FROM SANDFORD AND SON ALSO APPEARED IN THE HIT SHOW MARTIN! GRADY WAS THE HOST OF THE THEATER THAT WAS CLOSING AND MARTIN PUT ON A PLAYERS BALL TO HELP RAISE MONEY! MARTIN AIRED FROM 1994-1999
The other times the N word was from the episode "Sanford and Son and Sister makes Three". Juanita said that they needed to get their headlights fixed. Fred said something like ...that they better get that fixed quick, 'cause they deaf on a nigger with one headlight. You better be on a motorcycle"!..and the other was "the surprise party" epidose..."bim bam boom, someone get this nigger out the room" (talking to Rollo)...so it was 6 times.
@kingofthegogobeat, I have the individual seasons DVD collection and the boxed set. It's just that I like some epidodes better than others. My very favorites were the Fred and Aunt Esther encounters. "Mama's Baby, Papas Maybe" is one of the BEST classic episodes!!
I sure wish "Sanford" (with Fred and Cal, no Lamont) were available on DVD. I loved Aunt Esther's special appearance.
@IveGotYourChange Yeah, the later seasons weren't nearly as good as the first few seasons. I think the show "jumped the shark" when Redd Foxx held out for more money as Grady took over. When Fred returned, the grittiness got lost, LAmont got nice and neat and Fred's insults became old news. The get-rich-quick schemes also became over-the top.
@IveGotYourChange All In The Family's set was also used back in the mid 90s on the short-lived sitcom 704 Hauser starring John Amos. This show was Norman Lear's attempt to "apologize" to John Amos for killing him off Good Times. Another note: 704 Hauser St. was Archie Bunker's address on All In The Family.
@IveGotYourChange You forgot one...When Juanita(Janet DuBois--Wilona), an old flame, visited Fred with his supposed "daughter", who Lamont fell in love with. She told Fred she needed her headlight fixed and Fred responded, "You better hurry up and get that fixed 'cause they death on a Nigger with one headlight..."
So many of them (Pat Morita, Redd Foxx, etc. died from use of the illegal (not legal to poison people, no matter how slowly you do it) weapon of mass destruction known as the TOBACCO DRUG!
BAN THE ILLEGAL TOBACCO DRUG, NOW! PROSECUTE THE TOBACCO PUSHERS, TOO!
Now thats a good Where are they now! Very well done and informative! I myself use to watch S. & S. on Friday nights with my grandmother. Then, after watching S. & S. I would watch the six million dollar man. Boy, does that bring back some fond memories!
Cable sucks. 100+ channels and very seldom is anything good ever on, and it's so expensive now. Besides, on the internet you can watch everything for free including live TV. Damn I love the internet!
That first guy played the cab driver on Amos and Andy many years before Sanford and Son. - Amos and Andy get a bad rep, but I've seen all the episodes and the jokes are very similar to Sanford and son jokes. - And the show is based on 'Get rich Quick themes that always fail in the end.' just like Sanford.
not to be offensive but nigger was said more than that. it was said to osgood. fred said "this niggas crazy"
and it was said in the one where freds old flame came back and was told her daughter was his and lamont started to date her. she said she had to get her headlight fixed. fred replied something like " you better get that fixed, cuz it's death on a nigger with 1 headlight" and the best season was 2 and the best episode was
This was a great show! Alvin Chidlress, Rev Tremble was also played Amos in the old TV show Amos N Andy. His character was the hard working, business owner who often helped Andy (played by Spencer Williams) to avoid the con-games of George "kingfish" Stevens (brilliantly played by Tim Moore. Red Foxx would later, in the documentary Anatomy of a Controversy as teaching him-in his youth-how to do comedy. To quote Red, "I learn my professionalism" from Tim Moore). Good video!
9:09 with the N word is that just for those two episodes? Because on the ep when Juanita and Alice were visiting Fred said(about their broken head light) "They death on a nigga with one light",lol! And I think on the ep "Jealousy" when Mr.Wilcox was warning Fred he was a black belt Fred said "This niggas crazy!" LMAO!!
@panamaniak The "N" word was also used in the show's 3rd episode, "Here Comes the Bride, There Goes the Bride" where Fred referred to Lamont's bride-to-be's family as a "bunch of jive niggas."
@panamaniak Fred also said it in "Legal Eagle" when he and Lamont were in traffic court after Lamont got a ticket from a white cop. When the cop said he did in fact arrest white people as well as blacks, Fred asked "You do? Well where are they? Look at all these n-----s in here!" (referring to all the black people sitting in the courtroom).
Also, Esther said it to Grip Matlock when he claimed that he was Lamont's father ("What did you say, N-----?")
@GeorgiaKev Wow! Really? It's kinda sad that you grow up watching actors on S&S who play characters who are elderly but the actors themselves were barely middle aged. Wasn't Whitman in his early to mid 40's when he played Grady? Redd was about 50 wasn't he when the show began. And Demond was in his 20's playing a 30 something, lol! Great stuff and classic TV!
@panamaniak Yeah, Whitman Mayo was in his 40's when he played Grady, but was made up to look old.
Remember that hilarious episode in which Grady was engaged to that ugly woman (Dolly) and Fred set her up to make it look like he and Dolly had been fooling around by "accidently" spilling a drink in her lap forcing her to go upstairs and change into Lamont's robe. Then Fred put his robe and told Grady, "well...uh...being the gentleman that I am, I put on MY robe, so I wouldn't embarrass her!"
I was really looking forward to seeing a recent picture of rollo Larson. Really nice work though. I like all of them but a couple stood out for me like Officer Hoppy Hopkins, Julio Fuentes & Woodrow Woody Anderson, haven't heard anything about those people after Sanford & Son, I recently saw demond Wilson aka lamont on an episode of Girlfriends
@InfamouzRedzz Gregory Sierra (Julio) did appear in a couple of shows & movies during the '80s. "Let's Get Harry" (1987) and the 1983 TV show "Zorro & Son" (which only lasted about 2 months). Haven't seen much of him lately.....you may want to check out tv (dot) com and look him up.
@GeorgiaKev you forgot to mention that Gregory also played one of the Detectives for a while on Barney Miller during the 70's..not sure if it was before of after S & S.
