I would like to take the opportunity to say to all those people who think otherwise, the situation that Labour and the Conservatives find themselves in the polls at the moment is neither a reflection of Labour nor the Conservatives but rather dissatisfaction with the the Liberal Democrats. By entering into a coalition with the Conservatives, the Liberal Democrats have effectively forced the polarisation of their support.
@CybderDude93 Labour enjoying a lead at the moment because the Liberal Democrats lean more left than they do right and the logical party for their left leaning supporters to move to would be Labour. However, the Conservatives do benefit as well, which is why the last poll showed an increase in their support from 2010, from 36.9 to 39.
It puzzles me why anyone would be stupid enough to vote labour, they leave the country in debt every time they are given the opportunity. Not to mention the immigration situation that they deliberately caused.
@kkwillsaveus It was thinking "unemployment has been over 2 million for 17 years, 6 of them over 3 million, we've had two recessions in under a decade, they've doubled the national debt, crashed the pound and wasted billions in the process, a million people have lost their homes, they have sold arms illegally and taken bribes". In other words "time to get the bastards out and hope we never endure them again". 14 years on the Tories are still crippled by the result of this election.
@pipoo1 Unemployment at this stage was 1.6 million and falling faster than anywhere in Europe, the economy had grown for 14 consecutive quarters and it was the most benevolent economic inheritance since before WW1. We had a deficit of £6 billlion and falling to a surplus. The Tories foreign policy was nothing compared to an illegal war and sales of arms to Gadaffi to come. 14 years on we're ruing the mistake of ever letting Brown near the economy.
@pipoo1 Oh and debt fell as a proportion of GDP in this period, having been bailed out by the IMF before they came to power, and it was Labour who doubled the national debt.
@TheJaaysog LOL oh yeah, a massive 4 points on average ahead in the polls, and one point ahead in the ICM poll (the most accurate one) released today.
SO far ahead, MASSIVE lead mate.
Keep on dreaming, Ed Miliband will never be Prime Minister.
wish the bastards had never have gotten in,labour have always been better in oposition than in power, whenever they get in,it's downhill all the way-until the conservatives have to sort everything out,why do you think thatcher won 3 elections, the voters remembered 79 and the winter of discontent
@pazzerhead Haven't you watched the 1945 election? Haven't you seen how that great wartime leader, Churchill, had to stop his speech because the crowd was chanting "We want Labour!" over and over again so loudly?
@UsagiDreams did'nt churchill get back in,becuase i believe he did.And if you start going on about the cuts that are coming, then you should know it's labour who let the bankers run riot for 13yrs,while people like me had to make do on miniumum wage-don't even get started on iraq and afgahnistan,i'll vote conservative thankyou!
@pazzerhead Yes he did get back in, but it is nice to have a change now and again. Although Winston Churchill was a notorious turncoat. And don't get me started on the Falklands. I shall definitely be voting Labour!
@UsagiDreams the argentines was run by a right wing dictatorship,a junta of generals and military,if it was'nt for the falklands then they would still be running argentina, also the falklands were ours before argentina was even its own country, don't even get me started on the iraq war,i shall definatly be voting tory
@UsagiDreams what about the mess they left us with,it was that lot who let the banks run wild, thatcher as cold hearted as she was,you have to say it,she would have stood up to the banks and told them to curb what they were doing,as for blair,he's now earning 10million a year thanks to his shady deals
@pazzerhead Churchill got back in to government in 1951, even though Labour won more votes than him. I have a lot of respect for Churchill, but I don't agree he was a conservative. If you study his background, he switched to whatever party was going to get into power. He was unique in the sense that he didn't belong to any party.
Tony Blair has got to be the biggest let down in Political History! He was hailed as the saviour of Britain and for a while that seemed possible. But at the beginning of his second term, things just started to fall apart! He literally broke every promise! And then left others to clean up the mess. And the annoying thing is, he and his wife are making shed loads of money for public appearances while the country he stated he wanted to change is on the verge of economic collapse!
problem there is so little difference between them! a hung parliament maybe better. Ive always voted labour and i'll do so again - i see no point in changing things but i can understand people just wanting a change of face - something you couldnt contemplate 2 decades ago
whoever wins the 2010 election, will not last the next in 2014/15, whoever is elected, will be elected with 30% of the vote = highly unpopular. Noone wants labour or the tories, and the lib dems just dont stand a chance under first past the post. But i want labour to win! keep the tories out!
This depresses me. The jubilation, hope, and enthusiasm. People were not to know what little the outcome of this election would make; the policies didn't change.
All of those gullible chumps who voted in New Labour, the awful thing is most of them still vote Labour now, what will it take to dislodge this government?! Nuclear war, massive unemployment, a crumbling society, the largest recession in history!- oh no wait...Im convinced even if they committed genocide some plebs will still be ranting at Thatcher and therefore always vote Labour - no matter what.
The Labour Party was as socialist as ever, they just adopted Gramsci's 'long march through the institutions.' New Labour have now nationalised 52% of the economy, which is more than Tony Benn could have imagined in his wildest socialist wet dreams. They have increased taxation in real terms by 50%, and like all other Labour governments, thye have wrecked the economy.
Every Labour government has overseen a massive devaluation in the pound. Ramsay MacDonald did in both of his governments. Atlee did in his government. Wilson did in 1967. Then Healey, and now Brown. Every Labour government has left unemployment higher than when it entered office. The Labour Party under Blair were the most socialist ever. They just hid it under glossy spin and Thatcherite language on markets, despite doubling tax and the regulatory burden.
I don't think the Tories will come anywhere near as close to this win in May... Their poll lead is currently much lower than Labour's was before the 1997 election and if Dave C keeps U-turning, it will decrease further.
I'm hoping for a hung parliament - the ideal coalition for me would see Gordon Brown as PM and Vince Cable as Chancellor. Both of these would certainly show inexperienced Dave and George how to run a country.
Absolute rubbish! A hung parliament would be a disaster for the country, they always are. We need a clear a concise victory so that we can confidently go forward. I cant believe some morons keep voting for them! Have a look around you! Labour needs to go!
@Dendiol exactly i agree i am a labour fan but I have a slight feeling the conservatives will win this election because we have had 13 years of Labour but then again there was 18 of conservative. it will be very close. im unsure who will be victourious.
@Dendiol There's your hung parliament. Vote Lib Dem, get Dave and George and 'ooh, the books are so much worse than we thought, we need to lay of 2 million public sector workers instead of 1 million.'
I know, but one can dream. Its sad that the lib dems would probably do a better job than new labour or the tories yet people will never give them a chance.....
I think the Tories will win by a majority of about 30 seats this year... However, whatever the shortcomings of the New Labour government since 1997, and there have been a few... this was a very enjoyable experience, seeing the likes of Portillo, Hamilton, Mellor, Lamont and Currie lose their seats... The Tories getting thrashed that night was like a bully getting his head kicked in, or so it seemed at the time....
