Im not trying to knock Jenkins , I think he has done good things for the slate roofing industry. I just think he could use some training . Its not good to teach people the wrong way to use a stake.
@jbennetteroof@jcjenkins01 Personally, I enjoy Jenkins' videos. The fact that he's taken time to make these videos is encouraging. If you see a problem that he won't fix, then don't rant...record! Show us another way!
I fear the trend to criticize everything on YouTube will cause guys like Jenkins to stop recording. I don't want to see that.
Whacking a slaters stake with a sledge hammer is certainly not demonststing how to use the tool the way it was intended ,or the way slaters have used it for centuries.
OMFG !! The first day an aprentice to a real slater would learn to NEVER NEVER EVER !!! hit or set a slaters stake with any kind of hammer led alone a freaking sledge hammer !! you always will drive in your stake by just slaming it into a plank "thats all" you would ruin the tool otherwise. You also always slide your slate and do your cutting action at the center of the stake. never cut more than about 2" at a time. I saw a helper get fired once on the spot for waking a stake with a hammer.
