  • 20 years ago Lady Gaga would not have got a record deal

  • The problem may be that the actual good bands dont get the kind of airplay that they should making it harder to apreciate music now because the most popular stuff usualy is prety bad

  • I wish i was that ice-cream man... ^___^

  • There are still good bands that make good new music, but all the big wigs get first spot on the radio in the big cites. Small towns and citys have much better radio stations and also appreciate live music WAY more....and tend to be very generous and hospitable.

  • Simply AWESOME !!!

  • A fact about todays music is people get very tired of it and forget about it...as they should ,you can still find pockets of real music here and there, but the sad fact is that people today care more about how much base there is then the meaning of the lyrics. To this day I argue with my friends about real music,my words fall on deaf ears its nice to see at least a generation cares despite the fact that it is the generation that made it.

  • se parece a DALEVUELTA - Angel ...listenn

  • @pburgh211 I can only imagine what music the children of the 2000's will criticize for being garbage. It's quite a scary thought......

  • @pburgh211 and ya know what dickweasel, your music is our shit music, you are the equivalent to a thirteen year old girl that listens to justin beiber amy winehouse and other shit, becuase those are the bands YOUR kids will brag about listening to and that they can't stand the 'shit' their generation pops out.

So I guess they worked their way around it.

  • @whotaughtyou take that aphasia elsewhere good sir

  • @pburgh211 People used to say the same thing about 90s music compared to that of the 80s, or 70s. People said the same about 70s music compared to the 60s/50s. People said the same... etc.

All musicians are inspired by the brilliance they perceive in other musicians and bands. That aside, it's a bit silly to write off "most music today" as garbage - more likely you are uninspired by most music **to which you are being exposed**. Dig a little - there's loads of great stuff out there.

  • @elduarphyan i used to think it was intergenerational grousing too. but lets admit it: the garbage of yesteryears are still better than today's garbage.

  • @komunista94 i agree with you, music is decaying fast, and violently, each year manages to be worst then the others

  • @elduarphyan The greatest thing about music is it's always there you just have to find it again.

  • @elduarphyan No, most popular music today just plain sucks. I wouldn't say it's "uninspiring." It siphons your soul from you. I do think some is good, like Linkin Park, Owl City, and 30 Seconds to Mars. But really, Lil Wayne and Beiber don't really compare to the '60s, '70s, '80s, or '90s. Sorry, but the other dude was right, most of the stuff the kids listen to these days is nothing but garbage. Compare the lyrics of Stairway to Heaven to Like a G6 and get back to me.

  • @Smiley28064212 I consider Linkin Park and 30 Seconds to Mars to be every bit as turgid and soulless as the likes of Lil Wayne and Beiber. Your assertion is but one perspective and does not dictate what is "good" or "bad" any more than mine does.

As for the lyrics; they're different ways of expressing different ideas, written by different people and received by a different audience. There is no objective standard by which you can compare them and it's a waste of time to try.

  • @elduarphyan Sorry, but I disagree. You're might be right, but there were just so many great bands and artists that were around back in the day, and their music had meaning and creativity. Nowadays, popular music seems just like a marketing scheme. And hey, 30STM and LP are good, but nowhere near as good as, say, SP or PJ. And I feel my perspective is one that's shared by many. I mean, music today probably won't be remembered a whole lot down the line, but stuff like this song will.

  • @Smiley28064212 Just so my position is clear, my point was that the statement "most modern music is garbage" is patently false. Any lack of quality in *popular* music is the fault of consumers eating up whatever is plugged by mass media outlets and is a misleading basis on which to base any such claim.

In reality there is more diversity and creativity in music than ever before due to a wider base of influence and inexpensive production tools.

  • @elduarphyan bitch i've been saying this for the past 2 years.

  • @elduarphyan

i completely disagree and i believe it is an issue of indoctrinations.

if you listen to the lyrics of today, especially with regards to rap, ITS LIKE WE ARE GOING BACK IN TIME...

not just rap either, but who would compare any modern female solo artist's lyrics with those like Stevie Nicks, or Jewel, for that matter.

evrythngs systemically engineered just like ladygagas electro-crap/whore lyrics.

    ?=Pinkfloyd

    ?=SP

dig findthats where we are... decadence for its own sake no depth

  • @VinDeGaul Yet again someone is picking a narrow selection of music which happens to support their point and ignoring everything else. Rap, "electro-crap" and popular music as a whole do not reflect ALL music any more than Two and a Half Men and The Big Bang Theory reflect visual media.

Female solo artists - check out Regina Spektor and Amanda Palmer. Those are just off the top of my head, but I'd put them up against Nicks or Jewel any day.

  • @elduarphyan

i think its funny that you reference these as popular artists that no one knows...

i wasnt trying to say theres no good music, but the shift in popular music, i believe, was the point.

the culture itself, has seen literal degeneration, that much is apparent everywhere, especially in music and movies. nicks and jewel wrote their own lyrics, theres much depth there...

turn on the radio rite now and try it... a popular station, then post!

  • @VinDeGaul As I said before, the quality of popular music specifically is irrelevant. The original claim was that most modern music is of poor quality (which is patently false). Claiming "well okay but most POPULAR music sucks" is moving the goalposts. Same goes for your challenge to compare any modern female solo artist's lyrics to Nicks/Jewel - did you bother to look into Spektor or Palmer before dismissing them as unknowns? Did you check out their lyrics? I somehow doubt it.

  • :D

  • Buen fin de semana a todos, si toman no conduscan ni hablen con extraños jaja saludos ;)

  • @CarloZzToVaR w78t0aqt0s7oewg0y89w6gywgeaqn4tyrseuohyor

  • Butch Vig + Smashing Pumpkins = Siamese Dream

    Perfect.

  • Man I miss making out in the desert...

  • Man, I miss the old pumpkins :( and James is awesome

  • late 80's into the middle 90's were the best years to be a kid in America. The people, the music, the police and even our parents were cool then. These days its just a wash of crap, lies, distraction and garbage. 98% of the Artist these days are pawns and sheep to the Illuminati and NWO.

  • I miss ice cream trucks.

  • i was born in the 90s and being born in the 90s songs from smashing pumpkins, sublime, jane's addiction, etc were always playing on the radio so i grew up loving them and now i have eternal love for 90s songs/bands

  • Just realised, they have songs called Today and Tonight. Sorry, just thought I'd make that point x)

  • It's fucking awesome! I must had to listen their songs earlier. And yeah, Billy looks so much better with hair. lol :)

  • @7ChaosBlack Justin Bieber is cooler than Billy Corgan. Even though Corgan did cover Thin Lizzy.

  • James looks pretty in this video. Love it!

  • @7ChaosBlack Wrong, I wasn't trolling, I was a part of pop culture in 1993.The Alternative Rock genre was ushered in to replace Rock n Roll. The RnR generation turned off.The new generation got into Hip Hop or going to underground raves. This was for dorks who got picked on in school. My channel is blocked bc I use it to make personal notes lol. I could careless about winning or losing with you or your considering me anything. Like most of the ppl here if you think this is cool then ur a dork.

  • This is a great song. Have you heard Superman's Lament by Deceptively Innocent? IMHO it's awesome too.

  • God bless James Iha!

  • THIS SHIT ROCKS! Have to have respect for it. Smashing Pumpkins "EYE" is awesome as well.

also, if anyone is into new music you have to check out these new artists as well:

    "THE HURT LOCKER by: NEJATI"

i really see these guys getting big and they need some support. get in with them before they blow up!

  • i love this song. it reminds me of wheezer. can you say 1995? i can.

  • i was born 93 , experienced little bits of 90s magic thanks to my dad, hed play this music to me , wish i was older tho in the 90s to appreciate it more

  • @MrAdamocovic . . . research the 90's and the 80's and you will find your rustic culture.

  • @MrAdamocovic . . . ask him about the smashing pumpkins 1979. this will take him back.

  • I was born in '95, so close yet so far from being able to witness all the greatness :/

  • That guitar tone is disgusting, and I fucking love it.

I miss songs that actually sound like a band playing in a room, now everything sounds so... perfect. This doesn't and it actually sounds better.

  • WTF happend to real music? this carp now days is not real music.this is real music!

  • omg I miss the 90's back when music was real music, even rap back then was more tolerable than it is now.

  • songs in the 90s always meant something

  • should of drove it like hes driving at 1:22 - u would of passed

  • @bmer856 Yes, I will take your advice for my retake on the test. Thanks man!

  • I went for my license two days ago, and my mom told me to be really relaxed and think of something relaxing. So I thought of this video, and I remembered how Billy drives at 1:32 . I started driving like that, and the cop who was giving the test gave me real attitude. He told me "Out of the car NOW!!!, You're done buddy!". I failed my test. He was so mad, all I could think is he's gonna taser me.

  • Comment removed

  • @MrKittytoenails hahaha nice one. was it just that? or did you also try and make the cop wear a dress? they don't like that either.

  • @MrKittytoenails lmao. it sucks you failed but just imagining someone doing that in a driving test is just hilarious xD

  • @MrKittytoenails hahaahah you made me laugh :D

  • @123nonm Aw, Yes, laughing is good for the soul

  • @MrKittytoenails thats hallarious of u

  • @MrKittytoenails ahaha that sux

  • @MrKittytoenails That'll teach you to be counter culture when you should have been Adele. Straight, narrow, uninspired and MOR wins the day with the DVA

  • @MrKittytoenails Omfg that's so awkward!!!

  • lol why is james in a dress?

  • This is the soundtrack of my whole life.

  • I love how the song seems happy and cheerful until you understand the lyrics.

  • jus realising now,the 90'skicked ass

  • Pink ribbon scars

    That never forget

    I tried so hard

    To cleanse these regrets

    My angel wings

    Were bruised and restrained

    My belly stings

  • I was born in '90, and things WERE way more simple back then. This video brings back so many memories of my childhood. I remember going to the beach with my family, riding in the back seat of my mom's car, listening to this song on the radio. No Lady GaGa or Lil' Wayne. Just good music, and good times.

  • @kushstein i want born in 89 so i know what you mean, back when it was cool to be yourself and listen to what you want without asshole messing with you

  • @satansaudio666 Perhaps that was because you were kids ?? I was 19 in 1990 & while there was some truly brilliant music then, life certainly wasn't all sweetness & light

  • @lilymacsification possibly. may i ask, how bad was the 90s in adult life?

  • @lilymacsification Well, I'm talking about England.......In the early 90's the Tories were in power, Thatcher was still Prime Minister, there was an economic recession, there was high unemployment, the final government owned services like coal & rail were sold off. A lot of people were pissed off with the Tories - there was a mass riot in London when they tried to introduce the Poll Tax. There was also the first Gulf War & IRA bombs going off in London.

  • @satansaudio666 Grammar fail

  • @Reylan84 was i talking to you? no i dont think so, dont like the way i spell go fuck your mother again you little prick

  • @satansaudio666 bro are you alright, the sick bays just over there ==>

  • I like it how it's all nice and sweet then 1:15 it changes to a heavier style (I'm not a rock knob so i don't know what you'd call it).

  • Thank god Vevo don't have smashing pumpkins music <3

  • Jimmy Iha made a cute chick. I'd hit that.

  • @PoochNYC

    lol

  • he looks exactly like Gerard Way in this video :D dont hate

  • yes i miss them aswell no speed cameras and i had a Irocz with ttops and subs that sounded good and didnt rattle my car

  • I remember the 90s rather well even though I was kind of young but I remember jamming out in my aunt's room to Nirvana & Smashing Pumpkins all day. This video reminds me of the ice cream man that used to come around the neighborhood around '95 and we all called him Joe. This video brings back so many memories of my childhood.

  • everyones making me cry talking about the 90's on here

  • I'm glad that I was at least was born in 1993. I feel sorry for kids born after 1999. I first heard the Smashing Pumpkins when I was like 5. Back then you didn't have to change the station because of a song you didn't like, because all of the music was great.

  • the 90's were amazing.

  • Rock band 2!

  • 90's are like first sex

    peace

  • 3:28 he herps

  • I strangely like this although its about self-mutilation >___>

  • I think I'd sell all of my vital body parts on the black market to be able to see the original Pumpkins line up of Billy, D'Arcy, James, and Jimmy. Yeah I would, especially if it took me back to 1995!

  • @commentworthdidly you're so damn right. beck deserves waaaaay moar attention as he gets.

  • I kind of don't like the intro but the chorus blows my mind. Memories holy shit.

  • ThurstonMoore uploading Smashing Pumpkins?

  • I Love this Band ...If I would record a soundtrack of the 90s this song would be on it!! I dont like sounding like my dad - but somehow the time between 88 and 95 came up with the best Music ever!!

  • homer simpson, smiling politely

  • @JKoscheck Best moment in the Simpsons, ever :D

  • 194 ppl have no idea what good music is !

  • i love 80's and 90's

  • 2:27 Ah the days of hobo and druged up peeps

  • just caught the end of this on absolute 90's, had to come and hear the whole thing again....

  • I was born in 94, all I can say I remember riding in the car listening to The Smashing Pumpkins, Creed, Nirvana, Audioslave, Foo Fighters, Soundgarden, and Pearl Jam. Now I'll be lucky to hear even one of their songs on the radio. I miss the days of old when I could hear them constantly.

  • i love 90´s

  • I love the end of this video

  • Fuck EMI and their bullshit. I wonder if they realiz more people will get into the songs they block if they would leave them on. Fuck you EMI. I WANT TO LISTEN TO CHERUB ROCK IN MY OFFICE A-HOLES

  • Isn't it great that a song about suicide can be so uplifting? This reminds me of watching MTV in back in Junior High when they actually played music videos.

  • The 90's must have kicked ass! anyone who grew up then was lucky!!

  • @ThePremiumsolo i grew up in the 90's best child hood ever :)

  • @SuperPimpcane LOL as if you had multiple childhoods to make that comparison. but yes, being born in the 80s to fully experience the 90s was real cool. sadly, i kinda liked the world before a mainstream internet.

  • @illuminatioracle FUCK YOU

  • @illuminatioracle I miss the pre-net days, when you actually had to talk to people, interact...But I won't lie, DooM online was my life...Until Columbine, anyway. I miss those days, pre-school shooting. When the biggest worry you had was "Am I gonna get a wedgie?!" And what's sad is, half the kids in school today have no clue about anything like that, but guns in school are alarmingly common now...

  • @AngelsBreath84 It's sad that kids nowadays click the blue diskette to save a file in Microsoft Word but they don't even know what it is...

  • @ThePremiumsolo Yup, it was pretty f-ing fantastic times. The perfect midway point between technology and vintage.

  • @ThePremiumsolo The 90's was fun. We used to get angry about gas going over 1.20 a gallon.

  • @ThePremiumsolo it was pretty fun

  • @ThePremiumsolo

that because they actually still showed music in MTV. and it was real music.

  • @ThePremiumsolo Thats so true.. ;)

remember i loved this song the first time ive saw it on MTW ( when MTW still played music videos )

  • @ThePremiumsolo they've kicked ass the only regret is not trying to be better on this decade.

  • @ThePremiumsolo il fight you for how badass the 90's was omg it will never be as great again i could freak out its so depressing i think the 90's ending was the reason fo columbine!
