lets mass produce his designs, perhaps modify them to get the cost down to $10,000 and hand them out to the homeless if they agree to work for 6 months at the assembly plant. use areogel for insulation and veneer the wood to save on cost.
@FineHawaiianArt nah we dont need to make these to solve homelessness a cross the USA landscape and besides the government would neved fund this kind of program. You know what is funny though there are about 18.5 million homes her in this country that a just sitting and roting away with no one even accupying them, yet we have 3.5 million homless people sitting on street corners. whell just goes to show you humanity does not mater to your corprate masters its just all part of business.
@maganaonline The tiny homes are more esthetically pleasing, and they outgas less harmless fumes. You can save a LOT of money by reusing salvaged materials. The big thing is, they're cute. The neighbors are a lot less likely to complain of one of these dollhouses in the next door back yard than a trailer gathering algae. It's relatively easy in more progressive neighborhoods to find someone willing to rent you a 'parking' space, whereas an RV will attract the code enforcers.
If you build one of those for $5,000.00, I'll buy it from you for twice that. It's got to be like magneziful specified though, and carefully crafted and detailed with everything of high quality and in perfect working order, like the the ones Jay Shafer builds.
could you include a stove, toilet, shower, lighting, fireplace, shelving, roofing, insulation and windows?
the smaller you get the more expensive it is to build it. besides, 50,000 dollar's is for them to build it. you could do it yourself for 2/5's the price.
@916edward if you decide to get everything off craigslist, then you get used. you may be able to build one for 5k, but it's gonna be really crappy looking, and the part's wold probably break within a couple years. of course some things might be nice, like I've seen free new bamboo flooring that could cover the house on craigslist, but would you be able to wait until every single part utilized comes on craigslist, and monitor craigslist everyday until it comes? the price reflects the worth.

Ummm... why not just live in a trailer? That kind of what these people are already doing. Way less than 50k in most cases too!
