When Kerensky asked for a mech that was as powerful as possible as impenetrable as possible and as ugly and forboding possible so that fear will be their ally, the Atlas proved him right
@gyrobotZ Psychologial warfare does have its fine moments, not just with the Atlas, but also the Flamethrower and Flame Gel guns. Apart from only causing heat levels to sky rocket, they're very effective s tools against 'mans' age old fear of fire.
Flame gel guns? What are those? I played MW2 Mercs and I never saw a flame gel gun. Though I didn't finish the game due to compatibility problems with my PC. But still, there wasn't even any readme info on that stuff.
@susumu07 They weren't in the Mechwarrior games, they appeared later, around the turn of MW Dark Age.
Basically, flame gels are a gun equipped to a 'mech that is able to spit out a gel-like substance of liquid fire that did no real damage to the 'mech but spiked the fusion reactor to near shutdown. To a pilot, seeing a wave of liquid fire flood over your cockpit canopy is terrifying to say the least.
@susumu07 The only game reference I can find to it is from the MechAssault: Phantom War game, but the flame gun is mentioned in a few of the BattleTech novels
Do these plasma gel guns cause a lot of damage? Or just heat up an enemy mech like flamers do? It would be cool if MekTek included them in future MW4 Mercs updates.
@susumu07 As you said, there's little to no reference materiel out there but from what I've been able to find, they cause only a small amount of damage, while their true power lies in heat build-up, which makes sense, by spiking an enemy 'mech's heat to shut down level, giving you enough time to fire everything you have at it and hope to hell you can bring it down before the enemy can manage its heat.
I just love the way that Atlas takes a face full of LRM's...and doesn't even blink as it keeps walking forward, before raising its arms and blasting that Timber Wolf to pieces.
@Gantzer1 I will have to disagree with you there (although the Atlas skull is rather 'cool' - especially in the new MechWarrior trailer) and say that the Rifleman is the best looking 'mech around, with the JagerMech a close second.
You try piloting a 'Mech in excess of 25 tons and upwards in the middle of a battle and see how well you can split your concentration between 10 things at the same time.
@danexgen And in half the cases, all training goes out the window when a soldier finds themself in the heat of combat. Particularly against gene spliced Clan warriors.
Com Guards defeating the Clan Smoke Jaguar (in this particular clip).
Focht in the Atlas - I don't know HOW you got that result from a video clip inside MW 2. It only said he piloted one in the books - who is to say Focht was piloting THIS Atlas?
That's a matter of opinion, because the Jade Falcons are also one of the strongest Clans in the Dark Age period.
However the Ghost Bears are Wardens, where Jade Falcons are Crusaders, so one coul say they both are the strongest Clans, on opposite sides of the spectrum.
true.... though Ghost bears are more opportunist than anything else. They started out as Crusaders but then after scoring a minor victory on Tukayyid, they decided the Inner Sphere was stronger than the clans had anticipated, so they quickly got disenchanted with the Crusader philosophy and became Wardens. Later they merged with the Free Rasalhague Republic.
After the Refusal War, Ghost Bears were the strongest clan overall. The Falcons and Wolves pretty much wrecked each other.
Just download it from the internet. I hadn't played this game in almost 10 years and played through the night until I finished the game just 1 hour ago.
Yup, I remember playing through this game a bunch of times ever since I used to play Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries. Awesome game! Then again, there was also Mechwarrior 3 (I brieftly played that) and Mechassault 4. All great games.
I agree...one of the best endings I have ever seen. I usually pop the cd inside the player and the music just plays (skip the first track, it's static). Great soundtrack too.
thanks, i thought thats how you said it. btw ignore the mistake above, i`am for draconis combine and my friend is for house liao, i forgot to add 'and' between the dc and the house liao. my bad. for the draconis combine!
one question can someone please tell me, (and make it simple) how exactly tukyyid is prononced? and can someone rip the song from this game and send me the soundtrack? either way is great. long lie the true battle mech warriors of the inner sphere, for the Draconis Combine, house liao! favored mechs Hatomoto Chi and the Centurion. whats yours, fellow mech warriors?

Clans Wolf and Ghost Bear I'm okay with. Smoke Jaguar and Jade Falcon can just burn to the ground.

The Wolves and Bears are weak - The Falcons are one of the few Clans to stay true to Kerensky's vision, where the others fell or allied with the IS

Ghost bear is anything but weak. They are the strongest clan throughout the whole refusal-dark age period.
