  • mr. sklarevski has a love for Ned Steinberg designed instruments...

  • it's a great instructional Video! Alexis is a great teacher!

  • I personally don't like the sound of the Steinberger bass... I don't know what it is, it just doesn't appeal to me.

  • @halodemo65 i like the fender's one =)

  • beavis and butthead´s band ??? JK great musicians

  • what are the guitars both of them are using ?

  • lol 1:06 tiny steinberger bass

  • bill gates band

  • Very capable slapping going on there... but boy it don't half make you go to sleep!

  • i just love this piece of music !

  • some dope nerds right there

  • Someone who knows what his band name is? :D he's fucking sick on that bass man!

  • the "corny as funk band"! hahahahaha

  • steinberger did good guitars

  • i fucking love this guy hes so fucking funky

  • This is some of the nerdiest shit I've seen in a long time. I fucking love it.

  • =o That's a small bass!

  • I mean that's a small bass in the second one (the black one w/o a headstock or tuning knobs).

  • NBA Jam?

  • I fucking love him! *_______________*

  • geddy lee incognito?

  • lol been watchin revenge of the nerds lately? lol

  • one of the bassists i know that can solo and still keep the groove.. amazing...

  • i want to play the bass like you someday vey nice

  • Love that bass lead in the 3rd song, so groooooovy!!

  • leave drum and bass only and the 3rd song would rock ;o)

  • no doubt he shows good skill playing the bass, but who in their right mind would like this music, makes me want to puke

  • I like it, it's groovy as hell and really funky.

Some cool falsetto vocals would really have turned this band up. Almost abit like Electric Boys.

  • Its 80's Jet boat police chase music

  • LOL so true.

  • cats who appreciate music

  • your an amazing bass player

  • Whoa!! Steinberger!! Yes!!

  • guys who don't care about anything but the music

  • wow

  • no, it's a spector!!!

  • That's what we call FUNK!

  • Alex is the best white bass player that I have heard, a phenomenal talent. He just gets groove and rides that tom and bass drum perfectly. I think the band is great as well. Can you imagine an album that had both Alex and Guy Pratt playing (like Icehouse's Sidewalk would have been perect!) on the one album??!!

  • All I can do is just enjoy and dream about being that bad

  • Bass changes during the drum-fill in 1:01 ?

  • what bass is that exactly??

  • I think its a spector at the start... dont quote me on it though.

  • If you mean the second song its a Steinberg!!

  • A POS!! lol I hate those no head'ed bastard basses.

  • i think its a warwick (thumb)

  • There's nothing quite like a late 80's slap bass instructional video funk band. 5 stars.

  • He's a great bassist no doubt but not a huge amount of emotion is protrayed by him, I have huge appreciation for him as a bassist but being technically good and be good at performing are two different things. This band, to be honest, in my opinion are pretty band, musically wise.

    Just my opinion.

  • by pretty band im sure you mean pretty bad, right?

  • i think he means bland

  • Alexis is a BEAST

  • faggy comment

  • hahaha so true

  • alex is a pimp, all his stuff blows my mind and he makes it look effortless.

  • You can't hear it on the record either. Studio bassists don't need stage presence.

  • music has nothing to do with the faces made during its production, its an expression of emotion, which this piece is rich in.

  • It's not about his face, it's about his playing.

  • oh I agree with you. There are much musicians in the world which play technically great. But they can never write songs which touch your soul...

  • i think i agree like ya hes good im not argueing that but i dont really "feel" him

  • haha :D the sound is good ^^

  • Always wearing that blue shirt hahaha nice.

  • It's a Spector, not a Schecter.

  • Yep.

  • i think the guitarist is wearing a kk shirt it looked like in the beginninghaha

  • so badass

  • no badbass

  • Alexis is one funky mofo

  • Wow, this was from the days when looking cool was not as important as playing DYNAMITE (to stay in the 80ies slang)...

  • sadly for the 80's...this was looking cool. the drummer probly spent 2 hours in front of the mirror doing his hair

  • but they arer looking cool (when u stay in 80ies world) :-D

  • It's so fucking 80's... Love it

  • red hot chillis nicked his riff .....

    aeroplane

  • omg they did

  • the guitarist has KKK on his shirt

  • pretty sure it says something like "kirk". he has an awesome mullet though

  • no in sais nikk

  • whats the second bass that looks like that one from fog hat called

  • Its a steinberger, It was used mostly in the 80s. Even Geddy lee used it then but let's not talk about that, lol.

I went to a johnny winter concert and johnny used one of their guitars for almost the whole thing. I think he liked it cause it was light.

  • is the bass he uses for the second tune kramer duke?

  • ahhhhh great bass awesome wood there look beautiful and sound nice too 80´s for my taste but doesn´t matter the groove is great

    thanks 4 the vid

  • wow...I haven't seen a steinberger in years. love it. and alexis: you got chops, man:)

  • ahhhah

    lead bass rhythm guitar XD

    love that

  • i think he is using a flanger on the guitar

  • how do you get that guitar tone

At first i thought it was a keyboard

  • White boy can slap

  • i love the tone of that spector

  • Funk is more of a cross racial/cultural music form than any other, even jazz. Funk is for everyone.

  • nice :D

  • lol, check out the drummer at about 3:00 XD

  • Must say i got a bit nervous about the guitarist's t-shirt xD

  • Does the guitarist have on a KKK shirt??? LOL!!!

  • lol yeah hes a secret racist

  • it says Nikk

  • Sigh. Sorry about the multiple comments. Two of those were supposed to be replies to other postings, but for whatever reason they didn't get treated as replies.

  • I own this video, and it's just about the best bass instructional video I've seen. Alexis is a great teacher, and the video is well thought out with good exercises. Not sure if it's available on DVD (I have the VHS from years ago), but that would make it even better because it'd be easier to skip around and repeat sections.

  • the guitar player is in dire need of a good feeding

  • 80's!

  • the drummer is a midget all right but i wonder how he reaches the drum pedal heheheheheheheh ahihihihihihi

  • he wass light years ahead of his band and many players of his time. I am sure flea admires his playing.

  • some one said something about spectors being better than warwick...haha...playability sucks m,y ass...you wish ...spector is more or less a ghostly figure of my shit if anything..!Warwick thumbs for life

  • Try the Pedulla, you'll shit yourself. *drool*

  • Hmmm. I've tried the Warwick Streamer (which was essentially copied from the Spector NS2) and the Warwick Thumb. They're both beautiful, well-made basses, but I didn't much care for the tone compared to the Spector NS-2 of the 80's. Those Spectors (as in this video) had a really unique tone that unfortunately doesn't seem to be present in the ones being built today. Check out "Would?" by Alice in Chains to hear a Spector of that vintage.

  • what was the title of the 1st song? nice riff huh!?(bass)

  • haha dude his pants are like higher than his bass, but hes sick

  • it's sound like Uzeb but it's so fun !!!! I like this 80's sound !!

  • his drummers kinda fruity

  • esta vacan el tama esta muy rico

  • His band is called, he's lying his ass off band

  • i have band and we play just like this, no joke

  • hehe, this is some strange video, the drummer is a midget(there is no problem with being midget but not very usually for a drummer), the guitarist t-shirt says something like kkk???

and there is a satanic star on Alexis Sklarevsky rim?

But it sound really nice ;)

  • tee shirt says something like "Nikki", star is simple 5 point star shape, not even inverted...carry on.

  • hehe, it was nothing but a joke, but admit it at first sight i could be true some of it! :D :D

  • lol, ok then! Soz, bad mood. Awesome bass vid innit.

  • the lesson he did blew my mind his right hand is a monster

  • i coul've sworn he was using a warwick o.O

i should check out those steinberger things

    kickass bass playin tho :DDD

  • the headless bass is a steinberg, but his full body bass is a spector

  • "Steinberger", actually -- an XL2. Interestingly, the Spector is an NS2, designed by Ned Steinberger before he formed his own company.

  • Steinberger basses are boring, but they have a great sound!

  • What could be boring of an instrument with a GREAT SOUND??

  • The shape!héhé.;-)

  • what, you mean the boring old "no-head-on-neck" shape?

  • nice stienberger hes playin

  • is it me or does the guitar part in the first part sound similar to elephant talk by king crimson?

  • the thumb is made by Warwick,

  • whats the bass hes using? anyone please

  • the headless one's a steinberger; they are now owned by gibson

  • ya, this band could of been good!!!!! they would have had to dress a little different to be rock stars though.....haha

  • ya this video looks like its at least 20 years old so....

  • to have a nice sound for slaping how should i fix my amp eq. ?

  • he's not a very joyous player, That's the best quality in any musician.

  • NICE VIDEO MAN JIMMY.

  • They could probably make a good band

  • could you put the other alexis sklarevski videos??ı cant find anywhere..please put here full alexis sklarevski videos..

  • hahaha! is the drummer a midget.?

  • hahaa! XD

  • Hehe, I was trying to work that out all the way through the video! :oP

  • he also look so much like a midget XD

  • thats the most idiotic looking bass i ever seen... i would rather die than play on stage with one of those... eeek:S

but alexis is good if you close your eyes:P

  • the headless steinberger? IT'S BEAUTIFUL!!! LOVE IT!!!

  • sounds cool... haha but it's a mullet fest

  • FFS. If you can play that good. At least do it looking good :P

    He has skills. =]

  • its a carbon fibre Steiberger with two ball ended strings, theoretically it never goes out of tune.

Not to be mistaken with a cheeseburger... :)

  • This band was just put together for his instructional DVD-The Slap Bass Program.

These are excerpts showing you how to apply the techinques he teaches.

  • i hate those freakin box lookin basses damn so weird. wuts the band called?

  • nice....but what an ugly bass!!!!

  • even though his bass guitar is a freakin box, not the best but possibly most handy bass guitar - respect

  • Alexis ruled in the 80's and still does. respect..

  • This band NEEDS a keyboard. Everythign is so awesome but its so empty...

  • lol no it doesn't it sais like nikki or sumtin

  • the guitar players shirt says kkk

  • This must be filmed in Idaho, then.

  • you can kinda hear stone cold bush at around 4:38.

  • Are Steinbergers good for tapping on? I know that Ibanez basses are good for tapping on but what about Steinbergers?

  • Ibanez aren't bad for tapping but the certainly aren't what come to mind when i hear "tapping". Steinbergers would be better actually they have good definition. a good bass for tapping would probably be Yamaha or Modulus.

  • Anyone know what type of spector that is?

  • I think these guys are the theme music on every great vivid video

  • These are the riffs FLEA copied for Aeroplane... and another song i dont know the name of... cheap bugger.

  • You're right, eh? I'm glad I never liked Flea.. this just proves that the theories I've never had are correct. :P

  • sorry, but i really cant hear Aeroplane or any RHCP lines in any of the numbers.. could u please tell me at which time they are playing any Aeroplane kind of bass lines? cause i cant see or hear any..

  • I think the reason it's being compared to Aeroplane is because both Flea and Sklarevsky seem to use a lot of root-fifth slap riffs in their music, so it has a pretty similar sound in some parts. I have lots of respect for both players, but that's my theory where this alleged "copying" accusation comes from.

  • Deffinately a Spector, warwicks dont slap that well...

  • You're kidding right?!?

  • Well, no... I am a bass player and every Warwick I've played wasn't set up to play well, I know that they are top quality basses, but I like the playability of spectors more than warwicks...

  • how much do spectors cost?

  • Depends... Usually between $400-$2000

  • thanks for uploading this.anyone know what the first bass he's using is? looks like an early spector or warwick.
