About 1280x720: if you want to render out in that resolution, then you need to find animes with that resolution. It's difficult, but well...

it's not the animes fault, something is screwy with my Sony Vegas and I can't change the size when I render it in mp4 format

No, I meant that you will need to find the episodes you want in that resolution. If the resolution is small and you'll render with big frame size, then you'll scree up the quality.
