@d820m You're right, however don't you think that it's WAY over the top? I guess it was more accepted during the early 60's and as you said- the black artists didn't mind because their records got played. I guess I was looking at in today's standards.
@midrider335 That's Bill "Hoss" Allen legendary DJ from WLAC in Nashville Tenn....Gene Nobles, and John R(Richbourg) the black atrists didn't mind him sounding black because their records got played.....

@johnnymccrowe I think there's a photo of him playing a rather beat-up Les Paul gold top with one of the tuner plastic pegs just gone--tune with pliers or bend up to pitch!
Freddie King, the baddest, coolest and most soulful of his generation of Blues men!
Huge influence on the blues Brits of the 60's: Clapton, Beck, Peter Green, Jimmy Page, Brian Jones, Keith Richards, Rory Gallagher.... and on and on... to SRV, Gary Moore...
@26PEARSON Yeah man! Had the privilege of seeing him live and smokin in the seventies when he opened for Santana on the tour supporting his Caravanserai album, not too many years before his untimely demise. He was absolutely a knock out. Santana was as well, having just gone into a new phase in his musical exploration. A great night of music and I only wish Carlos would have brought him out for a song or two.
@folly5girl I didn't know HOW lucky until I look back. He kept getting better to the end. And that period of the Santana exploration was great. He went into a commercial phase in the late 70s early 80s and the output was not near as experimantal or as exciting as the first four albums. His other Jazz explorations were valid, as well, and the collaborations with Mahavishnu John McLaughlin, as he was known then (Carlos was Devadip if I remember right).
Gottta love the announcer calling him "Honey" ! Not the first time either !
How can being 'tore down' make a person feel so good ?....That's the Blues, John Lee Hooker said...... "it's all about the Healing"....thanks for this valuable post !
unbelievable! This is one of my favorite Clapton songs and never knew who originally did it! Thanks to the uploader. This is great. Thank god 4 youtube, so educational!
I can not have a bad day as long as this video and freddie king are on you tube, we need more of these before it's too late and there no longer available...
Yes it was mirrored because at one point the guitarist in the back playing a Rickenbacker became a left handed guitarist then all of a sudden he's back as a right handed guitarist . Great clip.
how wonderful is this....Mr King rocked! I dunno maybe the dancers did a dancer across to change positions, love the rickenbacker , vintage instruments all around, Mr Freddie King, thank you for all your musics
nice to put on some real blues master clips. younger folks today don't even know who these guys were. life doesn't stop with srv, clapton, or moore. of course they don't hurt things, either. without the likes of freddie, albert king, jimmy rodgers, otis rush, etc., there wouldn't be modern day blues masters.
and don't forget about the man that penned this gem- Sonny Thompson. He and Freddie wrote and played a lot of great music together in their short time on this earth. We all stand in their shadow.
Freddie King was an innovator deluxe. He was a great singer/songwriter & performer. Freddie was extremely influential on SRV, Clapton & others. interesting that some making comments want to focus on the announcer. Freddie and he were friends.
Hey all you people that are offended by the white host GET OVER IT! That's the great Hoss Allen from WLAC in Nashville. That's the way it was back then. He along with John R. and Gene Nobles were the melting pot of Rand B deejays from the late 40's thru the 60's. They gave these performers more exposure to the cracker world as you put it and the white folks dug it.. Hoss was legendary and this show filmed in Dallas was the best R& B regional show out there!
@scnokc77 Actually, Johnson recorded twice in his career. First, in San Antonio in a makeshift studio set up in a hotel room, then later in Dallas for the Park Avenue sessions. But you're correct about Dallas/Ft. Worth being a big stop for bluesmen on the chitlin' circuit. Deep Ellum in Dallas has always had countless venues for bands to play, even to this day.
yeah it's true, I play with is daughter and she's working hard to get it done, they said he was nominated years ago... she called them on it and they came back and said oh our bad... she's working with Clapton and others to get him nominated but there's a lot of politics involved. Hopefully in the next few years Freddie will get his due !

Freds studio work was always too docile. Live he was unbelievable and that was on a bad day! One of the hottest string benders to ever throw down a groove.
Buy this DVD if you like Freddie. In my opinion the Beat years (1966) is really the Freddie has to offer. It's before Freddie started performing with white rock stars in the chitlin circuit and this is who really Freddie King is. He died so young, he could have still be performing today.
