  • Stevie Nicks has just one fantastic voice. This has to be one of the top Mac songs and one of the best, just sit back and relax songs of all times. The bass run is just awesome and the keyboards are fantastic. One of my all time favorite songs for sure.

  • Happy Valentines Day baby-

  • what a song.

  • This is one of those songs you put on quietly on an overcast Sunday afternoon and just look out your window. I'm doing that now except it's Friday, but the song still has the same effect. It just softly creeps around you like some hazy cocoon, beautiful.

  • @owenbb505 I hate that word "Cocoon"

  • @owenbb505 well put!

  • Stirs up many feelings and lets me drift off. One of my all-time faves.

  • Wait a minute baby, stay with me awhile

Said you'd give me light, but you never told me about the fire

Drowning in the sea of love where everyone would love to drown

But know its gone, it doesn't matter what for

When you build your house, then call me home

And he was just like a great dark wing, within the wings of a storm

I think I had met my match, he was singing and undoing, and undoing the laces, undoing the laces

Said, "Sara, you're the poet in my heart, never change, never stop".

  • @michelle716100 But now its gone,it doesn't matter what for

But when you build your house, well then call me home.

Hold on, the night is coming and the starling flew for days

I'd stay at home at night all the time

    I'd go anywhere,anywhere, anywhere

Ask me and I'll be, ask me and I'll be, cause I care

In the sea of love, where everyone would love to drown

But now it's gone, they say it doesn't matter any more

If you build your house, then please call me home

Sara, you're the poet in my heart

  • @michelle716100 Never change, and don't you ever stop

    Now it's gone,no, it doesn't matter anymore

When you build your house, I'll come by (now its gone, Sara, now it's gone, now it's gone, Sara, now it's gone

Crazy, well, but there's a heartbeat that really never died, they said it never really died, Sara

Oh, would you swallow all your pride, would you speak a little louder, Sara

All I ever wanted was to know you were dreaming

  • @michelle716100 lovely choice.

  • ITS ((( MOM))) NOT MUM LOL

  • @26nylibra1 Naah - it's mum

  • 'tis the same for me, buddy, as my sweet kids are left to the mercy of their mom who continues to flounder as the time goes............to the sounds of 'Sara'

  • @tc03056 fuck all these making-right-decisions-for-you. Just listen to the music - loud - and forget about ypur terrible women. The music is so powerful that your ex-wife hopefully will go where she belongs: hell.

  • I Love Fleetwood Mac

  • this song was written about mic fleetwood's wife

  • the bass line drives this song. it's totally cool.

  • what is this song about anyway?

  • @voiceofelijah2012 its about stevie wanting lindsey back

  • @voiceofelijah2012 She has always said this song is a combination of everything happening in her life at this time. She had just had an affair with a married Mick Fleetwood. He eventually divorced this wife and had a little thing with Stevie until he then left her for one of her best friends named Sara. Stevie was pretty heartbroken about that, and this was the result. There's probably a little Lindsey Buckingham feelings in there somewhere, too.

  • one of my all time favorites - been a fan of Fleetwood Mac since 1976 and was lucky to finally see them in concert in 2009 !!! thanks for sharing - excellent quality sound - love it !! I heard that the original song is over 16 minutes long - lots of unreleased verses ! would love to hear the whole thing some day !

  • This song is a precursor to several types or sub-genres of music that finally surface about 12 or so years later . Stevie is hands down QUEEN of Ethereal music . Her voice is perfect for it. Shoegaze and Dreampop showed up and all have a similar quality where the vocals are concerned . The difference is the lyrics are not considered as important as the vocal output . So the lyrics are treated like Sheet music for the voice ,and the voice is yet another instrument in the band. BIG difference.

  • @kbdevo1962

You're absolutely right. The Cocteau Twins mastered this kind of ethereal sound in the '80s. Elizabeth Fraser repeatedly stated that she used her voice as an instrument, and her lyrics are definitely secondary to just the "pure sound" quality of her voice. This song is a precursor, for sure.

  • @kbdevo1962 Stevie's voice is so vicariously seductive. She is calling me to come home, where she will join me. The mantra guitar strum and is echoing her desire for me to share in the inner chamber of her intimacy And the drums give a constant sound persuading saying " it's ok to enter and not to be afraid to love, you will be safe, I dare you. Come. you will not lose your song. It's all part of the journey".

  • @62946magic a little yo deep

  • sara fleetwood mac

  • shivers up me neck when i here her voice.

  • Beautiful.Thanks FM.

  • This and 'Dreams' are my two favourite Fleetwood Mac songs. Something about Stevie's voice..

  • @DaveWollenberg oops..my bad XD

  • This is the one song that just sends goose bumps through me. Beautiful.

  • <3

  • Stevie,

    Forever my angel

    The love of my heart

    A tear in my eye

    Believe when I say

    I was dreaming

    Always will...

  • LMFAO - Apparently so - though it's not so unique to draw inspiration from that situation...Layla (Eric Clapton on Patti Boyd - when she was Mrs George Harrison) Angie (Mick Jagger on David Bowie's spouse) to name two. Powerful emotions combine to inspire hauntingly beautiful music - which Sara is and Stevie herself embodies.

  • How can u not love this song!

  • Drowning in the Voice of Stevie Nicks.... haunting. Just check out that whole back-chorus thing going on.

    What incredible talent.

We who salute this, were gifted to be around when this meant something....

  • IF you google Don Henley , you will understand the pain that this song is truly about. Decisions are life changing. Some can't be undone. I love this song.

  • @stormsbrewingnc Did Don Henley have any connection to Fleetwood Mac? I thought Don was a member of The Eagles...

  • A time when we had REAL music!!!

  • This is the Sara song I gew up on, I know it says my name is Bernadette, but my real 1st name is Sara!... :)

  • @Bernadette892 Did ya ever like Starship's song called 'Sara'?

  • Remember sitting in the dark, listening to this tune at Chico St, waiting to hit the bars.....good times.

  • touching, amazing, absolutely perfect!

  • i would like to live again that time is gone, what wonderful moments.

    music for eternity.

  • Stevie Nicks sometimes used the alias of 'Sara' when checkin' into hotels.

  • Listen to THE WITCH, i love her

  • May I recommend the book 'An Essential Guide To Music In The 1970s' by Johnny Zero. The author is a big fan of this track.

  • I cannot think of any other song that accompanied me for 30 years and still thrills me.

  • starts at 1.23 peaks at 2.24 ends at 2.38 - absolute quality, now that's fucking music you xfactor rhianna modern pop shit hawks ;)

  • For awhile I couldn't listen to this song because of what it was about and how my own marriage of 13 years was wrecked by an affair. After some time and after moving on my ex and I became great friends and now the song has a new meaning for me and I absolutely love hearing it now.

  • an angel is singing...

  • The best song Stevie ever wrote, and perhaps the best song Fleetwood Mac ever recorded. Granted, it might not be the most well-known, but it's one song that I can't listen to without getting chills, no matter how many times I hear it.

  • you cannot improve on a classic rock song by mixing garbage with it.

  • This song is perfect the way it is, no doubt! but don't hate on other genres of music. There was a time not too long ago our elders called this crap. Boy, were they wrong! Music is music, let's leave it at that.

  • OH MY GOD THIS IS A NICE SONG AND SO BEAUTIFUL SWEETTTTTTTTTTTT

  • i just cant stop listening to this song

  • @thergott1 indeed - I do so^^

  • ..cura22. It's about her affair with Mick Fleetwood a.k.a the great dark wing! Sara was his wife at the time.

  • @updistant Wait, so she wrote a song for the wife of the guy she was cheating with????

  • Voice of an angel.

  • @CelebrateDiversity1

No Deff would not be improved with rap? are you on fucking crack? haha if anything with rap it would be allloottt worse. fleetwood mac is amazing, and there music should deff not be ruined and turned into a "remix" like every other song that you hear on the radio

  • @HelterSkelter62 Well said - most rap has the 'c' missing from the beginning. Fleetwood Mac = real music

  • @HelterSkelter62 Whole heartedley agree on the Rap Crap .This track does NOT need improving . BUT I would love to hear this done utilizing Trip-Hop . HUGE difference between Trip-hop and Hip Hop . Do NOT confuse the two . A band called Puracane could actually do this song justice in the trip hop medium . I Didn't say it would be better . just different . Look up - Puracane - Dogs , The sound quality of the video is not too good but the track should give an idea of what could be done .

  • @kbdevo1962 Leave it the fuck alone its perfect.

  • @viper1970025 I Never said it wasn't

  • @kbdevo1962 no harm done.

  • Anyone know the story behind this song? I heard it a while ago, but totally forgot.

  • Había un latido del corazón

  • might have been larry....i cant remember.

  • use to sing this to jeff. *smhl*

    Classic + +

  • Magical......

  • What a voice what a song don't make them like this no more great days

  • Happy Birthday Mel. Enjoy your song xxx

  • Yep Sarah, my friend this is a flashback alright! Had a really neat funky huge poster of Fleetwood Mac years ago......nice song and music....really good music back then.

  • Sara would have been Stevie's oldest child.

  • @dvanorny2

    Not according to Wiki..

QUOTE: Nicks herself had an affair with Mick Fleetwood in early 1978 while he was married to Jenny Boyd. Then her best friend, model Sara Recor (at the time married to music manager Jim Recor), fell for Fleetwood and began an affair with him whilst Nicks and Fleetwood were still together. The pair ultimately moved in together, and were subsequently married. Nicks felt very betrayed, but Recor and Fleetwood were undeniably in love.

  • @TheSilencer44 I know, I read that too. However, the more cryptic Stevie's songs are, the stronger the undertow. I believe there is more than one Sara in this song. I heard about the article that Don Henley did for GQ, and I looked for verification. I found it in a radio interview Stevie did in 1994 called Off The Record with Mary Turner(you can find it on YouTube). Stevie says that Don blew it and that she would have never told the world about the abortion.

  • @TheSilencer44

Very informative. Thank you. Wikipedia sucks.

  • @1thru9atoz

    Wow, Sarcasm... ???

Well, that's me totally thrown off balance now after the strong and well researched counter argument you've provided.

    And you're welcome!

  • Who's sara ?

  • what a beutiful, beutiful song

  • who to hell votes negativ ?

  • Λατρευτώ

  • i wouldn´t say all this kids only love crappy music! i like this but i also like "modern" music like Hiphop, Techno, House, Rap etc... not everyone must like only "old" music! sorry for my english i´m german;)

  • bellos recuerdos.

  • beautiful song

  • just, amazing music!! saudade souvenirs...! my '90!!! thank you FWM!

  • The dislikes are kids who think GA GA OR RAP CRAP I S REAL MUSIC

  • @johnhharley48 thats true about most kids, but i for one a 16 year old love this kind of music. You cant beat the classics and it is a shame more of my generation doesnt appriciate or even know about Fleetwood, Journey,Foghat,Foreigner, Queen with countless others.

  • @superowns2118 i know what you mean! i'm 15 and honestly the rubbish most kids listen to! And so many are unaware of amazing bands like these guys, and Queen and so, so many more.

  • See now this is what I should be listening to right now. Me and one of my bitches I've earned thus far.

  • I got pregnant with the sole intention of aborting it and naming the fetus Sara

  • @okcomputer1016 That's kinda fucked, you know that don't you. Just checkin in.......

  • @okcomputer1016 Why do people insist on writing such CRAP??????

  • @MG180Man I don't insist on anything. I just decided to write some crap.

  • 14 people are DEMENTED.

  • @25411959 na actually they prob prefer the original fleetwood mac. its easy to count dislikes but is it easy to tolerate them? xD

  • prefer the other version actually. the singing was more in tune with the music, which does not change much

  • Stevie writes and sings one of rock's masterpieces here, but also check out Chris's harmony vocals on this song. They're absolutely stunning.

  • Beautiful!

  • They should have taken off one of those stupid crummy songs they have on the tusk cd and made room for the entire Sara. There's a good four of five of them they coulda chosen from.

  • Simply...beautiful....period....

  • wot more can you say about this song the best

  • what a minute baby,stay with me a while.....sorry .babe.

  • I wish she still sang this in concert. I just saw her.

  • Stevie's songs always strike a chord with me. There is something about her voice, her lyrics that I find calming and slightly sad yet happy. I guess you'd call it melancholy Her song writing is (in my opinion) better even than Lennon and McCartney. Of course, Lyndsey Buckingham's exceptional soft guitar playing can't be ignored either. These two lifted the band from very good to unbelievable. The greatest band ever bar none

  • Is an angel who is singing?

  • @BonifacioCantimploro Its the only valid explanation.

  • Que c'est beau . Je ne me lasse pas de l'ecouter depuis de nombreuses annees et la magie perdure . Merci de partager ce moment rare de poesie

  • @buzzwurthy

Could you diagram that for me?

  • yes I have my memories when i first smoked pot wen i listen to this , that was some yrs ago now 25 yrs to be exact , i was 17 n thought life couldnt get any better , if i could rewind to 17 i deffo would do it all again .

  • One of the best arrangements ever put on vinyl, period. A masterpiece.

  • It is this simple. Stevie has a voice that severely turns the crank of most men. Always has and always will. Even secure women agree. My basis for this comment. 25 years asking the question, and straight up agreement with just a few exceptions.
