People that drink Carling (and other mainstream lagers) are unimaginative and just do what thier mates do... think of the same advert, but with sheep wandering around a field.
How about a lot of people drink it cos drinks like that are enjoyable?! personally i think id rather drink piss than expensive wine or champagne.. personal preference ye?
Saw the comment about "what's this got to do with Carling?". Carling markets exclusively to (bird-brained) men in their early twenties. These men (in general) like to do what all their mates are doing. Belong. Don't think for yourself. Believe you like our beer more than the others. Flock. Get it?
This advert is ****** brilliant and totally evil for exactly that reason.
It's such naked and to-the-point distillation of what other beer ads are trying to do... it knows *exactly* what is important to most guys in their teens and early twenties. It knows exactly which buttons to press and it does it so obviously and brilliantly.
It's a smart idea that isn't too smart for its own good. I think the music is just as important- it's a great tune, and it wasn't until I saw this ad that I realised Hard-Fi did it. Should have got to number one.
Anyway, it wasn't that the footage of the birds impressed me in itself- it's cool, but I'd seen stuff like this before. It's the way that the whole ad works together so simply but fantastically.
Legend of a video too. It's by Matt Pyke who runs Universal Everything but used to be part of The Designers Republic. Not heard of them? Bet you recognise some of their work - try Google and check out their excellent Coke advert.
Anyone know why the birds do that? I've heard theories about safety in numbers and birds of prey being warned off, but as they fly off in small groups after that doesn't seem to make sense. maybe they're just dancing?
that is wot they do and yes they are birds starlings if u live anywhere nr the runcorn bridge u can see the doing their shit it looks mint cos their are thousonds of them and u wonder how the fook the miss each other
Whoever put this ad together shoud get an award. It's the only decent commercial I've seen for ages on terrestrial television. My usual instinct is to channel-hop but there's something cool about this one that makes me watch it.
Geez, this must have taken ages to get right...

"the starlings actually going home"
No, no.... if you look closely, you'll see that all the male starlings are actually flying over to the "pub" tree.
The smaller tree beside it's the doner kebab place.
