its obvious the adjustment from japan to the US is difficult for the guy and not easily adaptable as it was for Ichiro or Matsui. the major things of concern is that his offensive approach needs a ton of work. his batting style needs to be more balanced (his swing), he needs to be more patient at the plate instead of swinging at balls well out of the strike zone, and he needs to adjust to the various pitchers and their style of pitches. 1st year in the MLB, not everyone's going to be an MVP.

The Cubs continue the slump losing their second straight game. Which makes them 3 out of 7 the last 10 games. That makes the Cubs offense consistency matching teams such as The Padres, The Nats & Baltimore.
And when I say consistency I should stress the fact being "lack of", now I know Cub fans don't understand baseball but go look at those teams within the past 10 games and you'll get my point.

Koske Fukodome is an excellent player. He just has to adapt to the ways of American baseball. He isn't used to playing every day. I suppose next year he will be much more useful to the Cubs. its obvious the adjustment from japan to the US is difficult for the guy and not easily adaptable as it was for Ichiro or Matsui. the major things of concern is that his offensive approach needs a ton of work. his batting style needs to be more balanced (his swing), he needs to be more patient at the plate instead of swinging at balls well out of the strike zone, and he needs to adjust to the various pitchers and their style of pitches. 1st year in the MLB, not everyone's going to be an MVP.

haha, I just stumbled onto this huge argument from 5 months ago. I just think it's extremely ironic considering Theriot is batting .317 and has a .390 OBP. I know no one would have predicted that 5 months ago, but you even capitalized NEVER!!! Sorry, I probably sound like a dick but I thought it was hilarious. Granted, his defense still isn't stellar, but I think his hitting has more than made up for it.

The Cubs continue the slump losing their second straight game. Which makes them 3 out of 7 the last 10 games. That makes the Cubs offense consistency matching teams such as The Padres, The Nats & Baltimore.
And when I say consistency I should stress the fact being "lack of", now I know Cub fans don't understand baseball but go look at those teams within the past 10 games and you'll get my point.
Bottom line, Cubs were choking before the All-Stars, and obviously, choking after the All-Stars.

Koske Fukodome is an excellent player. He just has to adapt to the ways of American baseball. He isn't used to playing every day. I suppose next year he will be much more useful to the Cubs. Oh and just because the Cubs haven't won the series in a long ass time doesn't mean that they suck.. Some of you just say "Cubs suck." before you even actually watch them play in '08. They have a fair chance this year. But we still have a long way to go.

I dont know why people say Japan is on a lower level, they won the world baseball classic in 2006. Dice K underestimated? Do you remember the bidding that was going on to land that guy? Over 50 mill just to talk to the guy about a contract. He was very hyped up, not underestimated. USA baseball is also dominated right now by spanish descent players, because they can sign a talented spanish player for a lot less than an american player of the same skill set. Good players are found all over.

I agree with you but his batting average at home is over .300 But he is not used to MLB Strike zone because the Japanese League strike zone is larger near the batter and and less outside the batter.

Besides All Stars is a popularity contest, so as much as you want someone to be an All Star, they have to get the votes from Fans. So you fail either way.

lmao i'm not kidding, They were UNDERESTIMATED when they " CAME " to MLB. Ichiro and Matsui Proved themselves that they can play in the MLB. That is what FUKUDOME is doing right now. All of the japanese players were underestimated when they came into the MLB. Even Dice-K and Hideo Nomo.
Because MLB is supposedly better than Japan, thats what they do, Go read the articles about Ichiro and Matsui when they first joined the MLB and before, they were talked down upon.

He was doing a lot better during the voting, batting over .300. Still shouldn't have been a starter though. No way is it even close to the biggest mistake in allstar game history though. How about Jason Varitek named AL starter batting .218 with 7 HR and 28 RBI? I know he's good defensively but come on now.

Hes from Japan, Japan is a lower level of skill compared to the MLB. His transition from Japan to US is good. He was underestimated coming into MLB. Hes proving that he can play. You people are blinded by stats. He proves he can play and he gets shit for it.
I agree his stats isn't all star quality but he definitely deserves it, hes more of a clutch batter anyhow.
Just like Ichiro and Matsui were, they were underestimated.
