This video is pointless and idiotic. Yeah, I can find web sources that agree with my beliefs as well. What does that prove, especially when the sites you feature just make bald assertions rather than arguments? I notice you didn't consult a DICTIONARY in your quest to find out what an atheist is... why is that? (Heh, I already know the answer to that one!)
I love the accidentally-on-purpose shot of the physics books. lawl.
Is the title suppose to be 'What? An atheist now a humanist?'
Either way. Almost all atheists are humanists. And ALL humanists are atheists. A humanist is just an atheist with a positive attitude. There's no word for an atheist with a negative attitude. Why? Well there doesn't need to be a word for everything that can be described. Plus most atheists are positive. So why not just call yourself an atheist? Why do people have to look for other labels for atheism? Like"agnostics"(most r atheists)
@urantivirus, I don't like labels, but no matter what you do it's a form of label. One aim of non-believers is the normalisation of atheism where the label is pointless, me I just believe in zero-gods... aZeroGodist
@Bazompora :Well I suppose "no label" could be classed as those with no label.
Yes but based on the phrase "I just believe in one god less than you" -when talking with mono-godists.
When I started out I didn't like using the word Atheist to describe myself, as I saw it as a derogatory Christian word, now I'm a proud Atheist. Bedankt.
I think god is a kind of mental euphemism if you will so that u can go about this life without the huge amount of pressure we put on ourselves to succeed, be happy, balanced, moral and most importantly loved . If people feel these things & less burdened by believing God, does it really matter if it's "real" or not. I don't follow one religion. But I know that they teach one thing right and that's stop your bitter judgments. It's giving their life a little more meaning than just school work die.
Religion is man made. I believe it was1st created as a "form" of government, to control the people and give a meaning to life to do "good". Science has proven so much in this world we live in, what has religion proven...that we can start wars over nothing!
I disagree about the definition it gives for Atheist. Or at least I find it kind of imprecise. It doesn't seem to allow room for the definition of "Agnostic Atheist'. It leads one to believe that Atheist are certain that a god does not exist, thus validating creationist dim-wit'd claims about Atheism being dogmatic.
Whether God exists or not can be debated to death but one thing is certain: If everyone believed or atleast accepted that this was the last life we will ever have, people would be more grateful and treat life with more respect. Religion just takes life for granted. This video hits the nail on the head.
if god is all powerful then why does he need us and if you say he does not need us then why did he create us?
this whole religion thing is nothing but a control system and a brilliant one at that.
when ever someone asks hard hitting question the leaders they say its god will and if we just follow with out any real answers we will be rewarded in heaven. but when we die the leaders can still control the next generation of followers in line. with no questions answered
ppl also need to understand in society ides and icon are dangers because they can gather countless number to one cause such things like religion, race, class and nationality are the man cause of large scale wars. take ww1 for the death of one man millions went to their death. for us humans when it comes to war the same thing that we value and love are the ones that cause us the major issues. we still don't know weather Pandora's box of human emotions even with hope are our allies or enemy
most ppl seem to forget that controlling your self is already set-up in nature. in any social group an individual will be controlled because the others will keep him in place if he/she does not. the main thing in any social group the the grouping its self because with out it the individuals them self would die. if a someone was to get up and just start killing; the majority would stop him/her because it endangers the survival of the group
I'm a follower of the philosophy of New Humanism, and I am atheist.
New Humanism doesn't require people to be atheist to be part of Humanism. It just don't care about it. Since we can't tell people about thing are unseen, that they are untrue. There is no basis for a Christina believer, (who believe the unseen things on reason they have been told) to a Hinduist that they god doesn't exist, since the Hinduist do just the same: they believe the unseen.
'being an atheist' as a religion, brings other problems ... be fair, do you think that there is anything 'good' coming from human themselves? What rules do you like to follow; feelings? do whatever feels good ? Or maybe the rule of the strongest? or the one who has the most intelligence ... or non at all ... I wish you lots of luck living that way
The point is being a "Humanist" putting the development of the Human race and therefore our environmental world before any imaginary ghosts in the sky, Religions has had 4-5 thousand years and in that time has succeeded in nothing, apart from attacking other tribes, poverty and starvation are still prevalent today, to think that you need some LAW OF GOD to stop people from killing their mother or father or any other Human is just silly.Don't forget that the Vatican gave the a-ok to Hitler in WII
@aZerogodist<-- But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control." (Galatians 5:22) that is what YHWH (God) does in people, without Him you will develop the opposite. The rules we follow:not stealing, not murdering etc.are coming from scripture, maybe you are aware of that? Living without the strongest force means, you are under a second strong force, we call him satan.
Many say Buddhism is more a philosophy of life rather than a religion, When I was young and came across Buddhism it really showed the main stream religions up for me, I mean main stream religions preach love & peace etc but act in a very contradictory and threatening way, where as Buddhism is truly inspirational as to how people can act. If only people where half as good as Buddhists, the world would be such a better place, I really have the upmost respect for Buddhists.
I agree that the Buddha dharma is a philosophy rather than a religion. In certain ways the religion Buddhism has evolved to stands in the way of the original Buddha dharma.
And I agree, I have great respect for anyone who tried to follow the teachings founded on the 4 noble truths.
@Princess: Do you really think that atheist people will think that Bible are just true? "The nine fruits of the Spirit" are common to every of us. Independent from beliefs. If it wouldn't be, it would not have meaning to us.
And on the rules you follow: Do you keep the seventh day? Which day is it?
How about Catholics? They make statues and icons, similar to things denied to made statues and icons of. Because ten rules say don't make pictures similar to things in sky, etc... Are they atheist?
@Princess: I thought the great ruler was your god, I must be wrong then.
Doesn't your satan work for your god, "to test if people are worthy enough to go to ze-paradise"
If not the case; then your satan must be equally powerful to your god, otherwise your kind god would drown it, and magic no more satan, all people can live happilly delusional, in fact we all could skip Earth and automatically go to heavenly paradise??
I was not that kind of a child. I was brought up Methodist until 6th grade and then went to a Unitarian Universalist church where I started to hear information, ideas, and compassion that made sense.
Anything is only ever dogma if you try to coerce people into an ideology. I seriously think it would be impossible for any human being not to have any label attached to them. Language itself is a label for things. To not call anything anything is to refuse to speak even. You could create a dogma out of calling yourself a boy/man/human/woman or calling yourself nice/mean/stubborn/kind. That's not the point. People shouldn't care about the labels because you can't avoid them.
Instead, keep the labels. Stop caring about political correctness and focus on the real issue which is the dogma itself. Keep in mind something is only a dogma if it is pushing something on someone else. It is not necessarily always Christianity itself that's a dogma, but rather when it's Christians who make laws that infringe upon other's rights whether they are Christian or not. Like restricting stem cell research. Trying to ban abortions. Coercing you to be Christian in the military.
I say that all the things about "secular humanism" are just common sense and no religous title is needed. How about just call yourself human? Dogmas oppose each other and if you have a religion other dogmas will attack you. People dont like to confront reason and logic. Besides why start anything even like a religion? Whats the point? Dogmas are like wildfire and I dont want one single ember.
This video is pointless and idiotic. Yeah, I can find web sources that agree with my beliefs as well.
